Being Organised is the Way!

2 Sep

Hi folks,

I’ve been on ‘super organising mode’ for the last few weeks. What with the new baby arriving very soon… Seth’s hectic social life… The new academic year starting so we have nursery applications & the hubsters workload getting heavier… Family life just being chaotic… My work load mounting up & then lets not even mention Christmas! Even though it sounds a lot… I do love to be busy. I love how hectic life is around here & I do thrive on making lists, booking stuff & generally getting everything organised so it runs like clock work.

I’m all for technology & I do love my gadgets… I mean I couldn’t be without my iPhone & MacBook, but for me, when getting organised, digital just isn’t it. I like pen & paper. I ‘think’ better on pen & paper. I like lists I can consult. I like a diary I can thumb back through the pages to check dates. A nice neat little diary always used to do the trick for me, but these days, I’m organising myself, The Hubster, Seth, the new Baby when he arrives & even the Dog! Yes… even Coco has appointments & engagements! So I need something substantial… I need a family Bible everyone can consult to see what’s happening & when. That’s where the Personal Planner comes in.

This will be the 3rd year in a row that I’ve been using a Personal Planner to keep everything organised. But as our family is growing… so is our planner! But that’s okay… with Personal Planner you can customise every single aspect… that includes size! This year I have gone for the A4 Planner… just to make sure I have enough room for every single detail.

When I say every detail… you choose your size, front cover, string/fastening colour, ruler colour, page layout, page colour etc… like literally EVERY DETAIL. You also get some handy stickers to use & you also get a plastic wallet. I love a plastic wallet in a planner as they’re super useful for letters, receipts, coupons etc…

These planners are literally amazing. You can add important dates, add a ‘To Do List’ section, Meal Planner section etc… Perfect for just about anyone. I always tend to get the academic calendar, purely as, we run on the academic calendar in this house. I worked in education for such a long time, my husband works in a University & now we have kids… it’s just natural for us. But you can get a normal ‘Jan to Dec’ type of planner if that suits better. I think this size, would be perfect for anyone planning a wedding too. So much room for lot’s of information.

Our A4 Planner (Family Bible) stays in our home office, purely because it’s easier that way for everyone to be able to consult it. But you can get smaller sizes that may be more convenient for on the go. I’ve used the Square Planner & the Wide Planner in the past. Both are excellent. But for family life now… the A4 is the one for us.

You can find Personal Planner on social media… a great way to keep up to date with announcements & promotions… FacebookTwitter , Instagram

So there you have it… that’s how I try to keep a head of everything. Don’t forget, that they also do gift cards – perfect gift idea’s if you’re ever stuck on what to buy someone. Why not give them the gift of being organised. I definitely know a few folk who could benefit from one lol.

As always, I really hope you’ve found this review useful & thanks so much for reading!

Planning the Perfect Play Date

30 Nov

Hi folks,

Life is so hectic & fast paced these days… especially when you’re a parent. Planning your life around classes, play groups, work, housework, socialising etc… yikes… how do you fit it all in!?

I like to arrange regular playdates for Seth with all of his little best friends. Plus, it gives me some much needed time to have a catch up & have a cuppa with my fellow Mummy’s. The easiest way for us to arrange our playdates is with the use of Doodle. Doodle is so user friendly! Also, when scheduling an event – your invitees don’t even need to have the app as you can invite them via Text Message, Email, Whatsapp & Facebook Messenger. I usually opt for Facebook Messenger as we’re all on that social media platform.

Getting started is super easy… the app is free to download & very user friendly.

When creating the event you have free reign to choose time, date, location etc… the great thing about this scheduling app is that you can send your invitees multiple dates. That’s the main thing that I love about this app. When planning an event – you always need a few options. Like I said earlier… Life is super busy these days.

Once you have created your event/time poll you will be able to invite people. You do this by clicking the icon in the top right corner that looks like a little person.

You can also add messages & start discussions with one another via the speech bubble icon also in the top right corner. It just keeps all correspondence in the one area & it also means that no one is left out of the conversation.

Each time someone responds & participates in your time poll/invitation you will receive an alert via the app & an email notification.

Once everyone has responded – you should have a clear idea which date is most suitable.

Every busy parent needs this app. Myself & my husband have been using this app for arranging Christmas nights out too – it just cuts out all of the needless text messages. It’s quick, easy & precise! Like your very own personal assistant that lives inside your smart phone!

Happy Scheduling!

Getting Organised with my Personal Planner

19 Sep

Hi folks,

Well we all know how hectic life can be! Whether you’re studying, working or just trying to juggle life… things can become rather chaotic if you’re not properly organised.

With the hubster teaching in a University & me myself coming from an Education background & obviously being a Mammy to a very sociable little boy, we tend to work on an academic calendar when planning events, vacations etc… My Personal Planner is just perfect for keeping everyone organised & knowing exactly where we all need to be!

This year I decided to go for the square Planner as I thought it would fit into my handbag perfect. You’ll also notice that I have the matching ‘Blogging Book’. My blogging book is my trusty notebook. I write all of my ideas for blog posts when I’m on the move but find myself inspired. I also keep all of my top secret info on what’s coming next 🙂 along with contacts & other bits & bobs. Having the perfect notebook to hand is simply essential!

So… what is so perfect about the Personal Planner? Well, you literally design it yourself from head to toe. You choose the layout, colour, design etc… I love that it has a wrap around elastic to keep it closed. I mean there’s nothing worse than everything from your handbag disappearing into your notebook & then all of the pages becoming ripped & crumpled. You can even choose the colour of the elastic. These books & planners are lovely & slimline too, so they’re not too bulky. There’s nothing worse than a heavy, bulky planner weighing down you’re fave handbag! The books & planners come with a clear hard plastic front & back cover too so they’ll stay looking nice & crease free.

Inside your planner you get a ruler which you can use as a marker. And yes… you get to choose the colour!!! You will also be given a handy clear pocket to keep essential papers in, receipts & stickers! Oh & you get a sheet of stickers too!!! I mean who does not love a sticker!?

Everything about the inside of the planner is designed by you. You can choose your colours, layout, whether you want a section for notes or to do list. You can even have an area for your weekly menu! And if you notice in the collage picture – I have an overview of 2018 in the back – this is essential for planning those all important weekends away & vacations!

If you create a profile/account on personal Planner you can upload & add your all important dates; Birthdays… Anniversarys etc… so each year you don’t have to sit & write them in. You just hit a button & hey pesto – they’ll be automatically added to your planner for you!!! I mean how amazing is that!? Just think of all the time you will save!

So whether you’re looking for the perfect planner to take to school, college, university, work or to simply manage your whole entire life & family… this is most deffinitely the planner for you!

You can find Personal Planner on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram or simply head to their Website

Thanks so much as always for reading! I hope you’ve enjoyed this review. What are you waiting for!? Go order that planner! Oh… I almost forgot… you can also buy gift cards! Perfect as Christmas is just around the corner… 🙂

Chicken Dippers, Waffles and a Spot of Crafting

13 Sep

Hi folks,

I know it’s only September, but I’m just feeling so festive. I’m trying to focus on Halloween, but I’m just getting so sidetracked with thoughts of Christmas. I have to keep telling myself that we have Halloween & Guy Fawkes first!

Maybe it’s because we’re nearing the last leg of the year – but I’ve found myself doing a lot of reflecting over this last week. I’m feeling so broody & I keep thinking back to when we were trying for Seth. I had in my mind what kind of Mother I was going to be. It actually makes me laugh now. I mean… I don’t know if it’s coz I had my first baby as an older Mammy being a ‘Thirty something’ first time Mammy…  but, I was convinced I’d never let my child eat sugar… I’d never let them have McDonalds… I’d never let them have frozen food & God forbid a waffle or a chicken dipper should pass their lips. Oh dear… I wonder what my former self would think of my current self lol. You read so many contrived books & I think it gives you a false idea of what’s expected of you.

I’m a total optimist but when it comes to parenting… I’m very much a realist. My Seth is the most perfect, gorgeous little boy. And guess what… when I’m literally shattered from parenting, working, house work etc… I let him have chicken dippers, mini waffles & veg for tea. Yep… on occasion my child eats frozen food. I mean… I do throw some veggies on there too. He’s also sampled a nugget Happy Meal as a treat & sugar? Well… he loves a biscuit. I mean I do buy toddler specific biscuits, but yep… I am that Mother. I grab for convenience when I’m running out of steam. Please don’t tell Jamie Oliver!

Yep… that’s a soother in his mouth. I’m guilty of that too!

You all know I battle with my weight. I’m currently a middle of the road size 14. I’d say 90% of the time, the food on my table is cooked from scratch & is 100% homemade & healthy. Surely 10% frozen food is acceptable? It really bugs me that as parents we are shamed, generally by other parents, into trying to be 110% perfectly perfect all of the time? I’m not afraid to admit that sometimes when I’m tired… I need a little help from Captain Birdseye. Hi 5 Capitan! Lol.

Something else I used to think about a lot before I became pregnant, was that I’m not really into crafts. I mean, I’ve a degree in Theatre… so I’m creative… I’m just not very good at making things. What does this have to do with parenting I hear you ask? Well, when I was little my Mam was always really good at baking cakes for last minute things at school. She could always rustle up a fancy dress outfit overnight & she was brill at helping with arty projects. I really didn’t want to be that let down who couldn’t make anything. So… this last week I’ve had my ‘crafty’ head on.

I’m already thinking ahead to Seth’s 2nd birthday party. I’d had in my head a kind of snack/cake stand that each guest could have their party munch on. I also wanted something similar for Seth to have his snacks on. I found what I was looking for on Pinterest, but when I found what I wanted online to buy… it was ridiculous prices. So… I decided to give it a go myself. I even gave my little crafting creation a name… The Snaffle Stand! Lol.

I love them so much! People have even wanted to buy them!

Since I was feeling so pumped from putting an idea into production… I decided to turn my hand to making Seth a Christmas Eve Box (early I know). I really want to make him an All Hallows’ Eve Box too! So… I set to work with my trusty screwdriver & super sticky glue! Tada!

I absolutely adore it! I’m so proud of my little self. I’ve even had people wanting to order these too. I was so scared I was gonna make a right mess of it & glue my fingers to everything lol. I think I have the crafting bug now!

Everything is just always so non-stop here at Thorne Towers. But, I just would not have it any other way. I actually wonder what I did with my time before Seth came along. I don’t think I knew what busy meant until he arrived. I seem to do a million things at the speed of light these days. You know what? I just can’t wait to do it all again & add another little addition to our family. Let’s hope 2018 is the year!

I’m still squeezing in my driving lessons too! I’ve had 30 lessons now – eeeeeck! I had a major breakthrough on Monday night with my roundabouts. Roundabouts are my nemesis… I hate them & they hate me! Well, apart from giant ones. Give me a hectic giant roundabout & I’m like “yeah… let’s do this”… I can drive round it perfect. Yet… stick me on the most ridiculously small roundabout & I’m literally wetting myself! Go figure. But, I think I’ve turned a corner so to speak with them. So over the next few weeks may see manoeuvres. I actually need to get my theory test booked in too. I’m not afraid to say that learning to drive has not come easy to me. I don’t think I’ve ever had to try as hard at anything in my life. But, I enjoy it & I know I can do it. My instructor is great & we have a good rapport. Again… let’s hope 2018 is the year to drive… legally… on my own… in my own car! Eeeeck!

All I think that’s everything for now folks… thanks so much for reading!

New Year Observations

9 Jan

Hi folks,

First of all… I’d like to start with saying a massive Happy New Year to you all. We have had such an amazing Christmas. Seth’s first Christmas has been truly magical. He was well & truly spoilt.

Over the festive period I pretty much snaffled any food & treats I fancied… I drank sparkles… & basically just over indulged. But I have some observations from my 2 weeks of sheer indulgence… My skin is appalling! I’m pretty lucky in that I don’t really suffer from the dreaded spot. But… over Christmas I have had some major outbreaks! I’ve also suffered with some pretty harsh headaches too. When I was at my largest size – I suffered so bad with headaches. I totally 100% believe that my over indulgent diet has caused the spots & headaches. I’ve gone back to my usual healthy diet & my spots have gone, the redness in my skin has died down & my headaches have lifted. How bad is that… that eating over salty, fatty & stodgy foods has done that. I’ve also gained 5lbs!

For the last week I’ve gone back to my healthy home cooking & limited my processed food intake. Healthy clean food is back on the menu. Don’t forget that I have a diet journey page where I post recipes etc…

I mean, over Christmas & New Year… I have had far too many cheese boards, baked Camembert & waaaaaaay too much bread. It’s yummy at the time – but the bloating just really lowers your mood & self confidence. When I revert back to my healthy lifestyle – I don’t remove all treats from my diet, I just live by the golden rule of: Everything in Moderation. So, I’ll not be eating pudding in the house – but I may have one now & then if I’m out for a meal. I do have a drink, but not in the week. I’ll have a drink on a Saturday evening when Seth is in bed. Either some sparkles, a gin & slimline tonic or wine. I don’t drink on Fridays as I usually have a driving lesson on a Saturday morning. If I fancy some chocolate – I’ll have some. I just won’t gorge on a full bar. I just try to keep myself in check. I’m currently a size 14/16 & I just can’t wait until I’m back to a size 12. I don’t go in for body shaming etc… I was once over 19 stone… I’m nowhere near that anymore… therefore I am proud.

Who read my article in New Magazine last week? Eeeeck… that was so exciting. It was so weird seeing myself in print. It feels right though to get my story out there. When you hit rock bottom… the only way is up! I’m forever the optimist these days & I intend to stay that way. Having 6 major surgeries over 5 years, was pretty tough. But I didn’t let it break me… It actually made me stronger. Cheesy… but true.

So… what’s coming up? Well… I have some lovely reviews coming up for you all. I’ve had some rather exciting emails this year so far… So I’m hoping this is going to be one sparkly, fantastical year! And… let’s not forget Seth’s first birthday too!

Well, I shall leave this post here as I’m super sleepy from a very full on busy day! Oh, before I go though – don’t forget about my website! I actually need to add more recipes… I must get that done soon.

Thanks so much as always for reading!

Personal Planner

28 Nov

Hi folks

Well, I have another fab Christmas gift idea for you!

What do you buy the most organised person you know? Or, what do you buy the least organised person you know? Or.. if you know someone in between… I have the perfect gift idea! Why not buy them a personal planner? Or better still… head to their website & buy someone a gift card!

The Personal Planner is just that… a fabulously unique personal planner tailored for you… by you! You literally design every single aspect of it. Everything from the colour of the pages to the layout.

I loved creating my own planner. I make notes generally all over my diary & I’m always writing lists of menu’s for the week to keep on track with eating healthy. My current diary just ends up as a massive mess… with writing scrawled all over the place. It looks incoherent – then I have to decipher what I’ve written & in what order! Now, when you have a busy working Mammy life like me… this is not the way to plan your time! So… with my NEW planner… I have my page sectioned up into little, manageable, neat categories! I simply cannot wait for the New Year purely so I can use it! Yes… I am that sad.

Along with my regular weekly breakdown over two pages, I have:

  • To Do This Week, complete with a ticky box (who doesn’t love a ticky box!?)
  • List Of The Week – this list I was going to use for business/PR contacts of who I’m in talks with. Just so to keep it separate from my to do list.
  • Idea Of the Week – This was to jot any buzz words or inspiring things I encounter that I can write about or simply come back to at a later date.
  • This Week’s Dinner – This is my menu area.
  • Notes – well thats pretty self explanatory.

I also opted for the ruler too – it makes a great page mark doesn’t it!?

I’ve tried in the past to have a personal diary & a work diary, but it just never works. I end up lugging around two diaries. Then I update one & not the other & it just gets so confusing! So, this way with my personal planner all organised & categorised – I can have one diary for everything but with keeping things in a precise coherent order!

I opted for the wide diary – simply so I could get as much wordiness in there! But you can choose various shapes & sizes to suit your needs.

I love that it’s slim too. It takes up hardly no room in my bag! Also, another bugbear of mine is when you have book in your bag & it opens so the pages get all bend & dogeared. I end up having to pop a hair bobble around things to keep them closed etc… well that just looks a bit naff doesn’t it!? And not at all professional when you turn up to a meeting with split hairs sprouting off your diary! Well… there’s no need for that with your personal planner as you get to choose the colour of your elastic that is attached & in the perfect place to keep your diary closed & perfect!

You can add sheets of stickers too! Now this is fab for all of you ‘bullet journalers’ out there! ‘Journaler’… I don’t even think thats a word!? Oh well, it is now! I love a good sticker. If you’ve got something important to do – a sticker always makes it pop when you turn the page. If you are into bullet journaling then you can opt for plain pages rather than lined – just for when your sketching etc… Honestly – whatever you want – goes really. You design it. Even the front cover… I opted for a plain & simple cover… but you could add a photograph of your choice… anything!

If you’re wanting to buy this as a gift – but would like to pass the creative gift on so the recipient gets the fun of designing, then you have the option of buying them a PDF version gift card – or an actual physical gift that will arrive via the postman. It really would make a fab Christmas gift. That way – you can either email them the fabulous gift. Or… pop it in their Christmas card!

Now, if you’re wanting to create & design a personal planner to arrive before Christmas, then you really must get your skates on! You need to order before December 4th for guaranteed Christmas Delivery. But, if you’re not sure of anything, then you can head to their website & contact the beautiful personal planner folk via their  customer service contact email address, of via their Facebook Page.

Well… There you have it! Go buy your very own Personal Planner… you really do need it in your life!

Thanks so much for reading as always & I hope I’ve inspired you to get organised!

Love & Huggles,

Hayley xxx
