Making Memories

20 May

Hi folks,

I love the month of May. Spring is everywhere & everything looks so beautiful… the weather is on the turn to sunnier times & it’s also mine & the hubsters Birthday month.

We always try to do something nice for our birthdays as they’re only 4 days apart. But when you have little ones in tow… plans have to change & adapt. This year we had the most amazing little break in the Yorkshire Dales in a stunning Georgian Cottage.

So… first of all… let me tell you about this simply beautiful cottage. Green Cottage is an elegant Georgian Cottage set on the green of one of Yorkshire’s most picturesque villages. It’s an ideal base to explore the Dales in any season. And… it’s 100% Family-friendly… that includes doggies too. A dog bed & bowl can be provided if needed. Our Coco is such a little diva though & likes her own little comforts – so we took her fave bed & mini food & water bowl… most dog bowls are big enough for her to bathe in lol.

The space itself:

The house is fully detached and set over three floors. Don’t worry thoughif you have little ones, then baby gates can be provided. Seth is 3 & Ted is 6 month so we very much need baby gates on the stairsso this was fab for us. They were already installed too!

Lower Ground Floor

  • Kitchen diner (featuring an extendable table to seat up to 6 guests and fully equipped with Rangemaster cooker, dishwasher, fridge with freezer shelf and microwave along with plenty of good quality cooking and baking equipment, glasses, crockery etc). Honestly…the kitchen has EVERYTHING you could possibly need. Even down to the colourful plastic kids crockery from IKEA that we all know & love & can’t live without! We ate in both nights… did ‘snacky food & we had sparkles… obvs

  • Utility room (with washer-dryer, iron and ironing board and a drying space for muddy boots and outdoor gear)There’s great tray there to stand your dirty shoes in there’s a radiator right underneath the coat rail too – so if you’ve gotten a little damp – everything will dry off.

  • Bathroom (with spa whirlpool bath, and toasty underfloor heating). The bath is utterly divine! I had visions of having an uninterrupted bubble bath with a glass of sparkles… but of course that lasted all of 5 minutes until Seth came bounding in lol. But that’s Mama Life for you!

Ground Floor

  • Living room (sofas to comfortably seat 5, log burner, digital Smart TV with Freeview, BBC iPlayer etc as well as lots of books, maps and games) we took our amazon fire stick with us & connected it to the WiFi. So we were able to watch Disney Life, Netflix & Prime. Please note that the play pen in the living room is ours & not part of the cottage.

  • Snug / third bedroom (large day bed which can be made up into full size single bed, second TV, desk)

  • Shower room (walk in monsoon shower with extra large enclosure, heated towel rail) There is also a toilet. It’s fab as there is literally a toilet on each floor. Essential for toilet training! Seth is totally dry now, but we’re still only in our first month of toilet training… so a toilet on hand is utterly essential lol.

First floor

  • Master bedroom (king size bed with deep, comfortable mattress, large wardrobe and antique dressing table) oodles of spaceLoads of room for a travel cot. A travel cot can be provided too if you don’t want to take one.

  • Twin bedroom (two full size single beds with pocket sprung mattresses, chest of drawers and clothes rail) a waterproof mattress cover can be provided too! Perfect! Please note that the bed guard rail is ours & not part of the cottage.

  • WC with basin (‘Jack and Jill’ style access from both upstairs bedrooms, ideal for families, or can be set up as en-suite for either bedroom)

  • Enclosed garden to rear and side, paved and gravel with outside seating, and a charcoal BBQ
  • Bike store (lockable for up to 5 bikes, can also be used as a pram store)
  • Direct access to the village green – a large expanse of grass free for all to stroll, sit or play
  • Play area visible from back gate – swings, slide, football posts etc. We spent quite a lot of time in the little play area. Seth loves a park. There’s also plenty wide open space to run around or to picnic. But, if you take your fur babies… please ensure you scoop that poop! There’s nothing worse than dog poop making the place dirty!

As you can see from above & from my photos… everything is catered for.

The bedding was so comfy!!! Egyptian cotton bed linen on all beds, 13.5 tog thick duvets (hypoallergenic and feather / down) and plenty of soft and fluffy Egyptian cotton towels. As you can see… Ted had to try out the king size bed lol.

There’s a welcome pack with all the basics for your first couple of days (loo rolls, hand soap, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, bin bags, tea towels and kitchen cleaning supplies) as well as tea, coffee, milk, bread and a few local treats. This was soooo nice!!! It just means that you don’t have to pack a lot of shopping. And it also means that it’s all ready for you to get the kettle straight on when you arrive… coz let’s face it… we all need that first brew when we arrive somewhere! Especially when you’ve had to sing Baby Shark & Old McDonald Farm all the way there lol.

Also… when we arrived there was a lovely big box of toys left out for Seth to explore, as well as plenty children’s books. There were even a few laid out on his bed for him. That was such a lovely touch & Seth was super excited!

So as well as a travel cot, baby gates & toys… the owners can provide a highchair – which Ted thought was VERY comfy & there is also a baby monitor. Oh & I did mention the plastic IKEA crockery, but there’s also a MAM Baby Cup too. Just so many little things that have been added to make your break so much easier! This cottage is really like a home from home.

For our furbabies, there is a lovely fluffy blanket provided & the use of a hose pipe outside to wash down those dirty paws.

Okay… so you’ve heard all about the gorgeous cottage… but what did we do while we were there? We investigated Settle. What a stunning little town. Seth particularly enjoyed The House That Jack Built. He got some lovely new Melissa & Doug toys. There are so many gorgeous shops, tea rooms & places to eat, to investigate. There’s also the Watershed Mill. It is absolutely stunning… the scenery is simply breathtaking. We popped there for a little bite to eat over lunch time.

We spent a lot of time playing on the green outside of the cottage & in the little park. We were only there for 2 nights… next time we’ll be booking for a week.

The cottage has a lovely organised folder of leaflets & places to visit etc… so helpful for when you’re planning days out.

This beautiful cottage is simply worth every penny. If you book before August & quote: “IxxyPoco” you will be given an exclusive discount. You can book a year in advance. So use that code before it runs out. Simply head to Green Cottage on AirBnB & send a message to the owners quoting my blog.

Thanks as always for reading & I hope you’ve been inspired to book yourself a lovely break away ❤️

Toddler Toilet Time

12 Mar

Hi folks,

We’re still in the throws of toilet training. Well… when I say ‘toilet training’ I do actually mean potty as Seth shows more interest in the potty than the toilet.

We were sent the most gorgeous potty from Nuby; The Tots Toilet. Seth is a bit obsessed… which I’m totally taking as a massive positive step in the right direction to a ‘pull up’ free life! The first day it arrived he sat on it to eat his dinner in front of the TV lol.

Firstly… this is a lovely little potty. It’s a perfect mini toilet. There is a potty insert inside the little toilet that comes out easily for cleaning etc… with the potty being a little higher than a traditional potty, it’s great for little boys to be able to do a stand up wee without it going straight over the top. Boy mama’s… we’ve all been there. Now, the most exciting part to this Toilet, is the sounds & light. There’s a little flush button on the top. Seth is so obsessed with pressing the button. I also love that it has a toilet lid that you can close over after a successful toilet time. Seth gets a bit freaked out seeing anything in the toilet, so being able to close the lid is a massive plus for us.

As this potty looks like a toilet, Seth has been happy to keep it in our downstairs loo. Again, a massive plus for us as we’ve managed to get the idea of toilet time moved into the bathroom rather than the potty being in the front room.

Is Seth out of pull ups? Nope… not yet. He’s still a bit freaked out about the whole thing. Some days he’s very amenable to the whole toilet thing. Until we got this potty, he wasn’t. Other days though, he just does not want to know & cries & gets very anxious. I just feel that a tough love approach would not be right in this scenario as I don’t want to enforce anxiety & fear around the toilet. So, right now he can use the potty when he feels confident. And when he doesn’t, it’s not a ‘big deal’. Seth will be starting nursery next month after Easter. I’m hoping that seeing the other kids using the toilet – this will make him want to use it too. I say this because his friend Ruby used our Tots Toilet & it totally inspired Seth to use it too lol. Maybe Ruby can be his Toilet coach? Lol.

Seth isn’t pooping whilst we’re out & he’s completely dry on a night. So I know he has full control over when he ‘toilets’… it just seems to be his anxiety taking over. Like I said in a previous blog post… slow & steady wins the race. I’m hoping the calm & positive approach will help him to conquer the toilet once & for all.

We do love our Tots Toilet… & so does Ruby!

Thank you Nuby!

Thank you as always for reading!

The Power of Coffee

22 Jun

Hi folks

As I mentioned in my last blog post – I’m working super hard at being healthy. Eating right… drinking plenty of water & trying to fit in daily body magic. But… along with all of these things, I’ve been sampling some coffee. A coffee that improves your mood… improves your energy levels… increases your focus & can even aid with regulating your appetite! So… what is this magical elixir I hear you ask!? Lean Java Bean

Now… you all know that I don’t go in for faddy diets. I don’t like anything that involves meal replacement or dropping to a scarily low calorie diet. I’m all about everything in moderation & losing weight the old fashioned way. I don’t like the idea of weight loss medication either.

Whilst having a catch up with a good friend, she told me about a health drink. A health drink that was coffee! I mean normally we’re bombarded with literature claiming coffee is bad. Lean Java Bean has increased anti-oxidants. Anti-oxidants seems to be some kind of buzz word we hear on health shows & in health magazines… but the top & bottom of it is that they’re fantastic for boosting your immune system, our mood, our memory, skin… etc… so many benefits.

Now… this all sounds great… but does it actually work. I was quite excited at the thought of a magical cup of coffee that’d give me a massive energy boost. I mean, as a Mammy to a 15 month old who juggles work, Mammy-ing & running a house, I can always do with a bit extra energy. You can imagine I was super excited to start my 3 day trial. You literally drink one each morning. Stick to a healthy diet & drink plenty water.

Honestly, I was not expecting to feel any different. But, after my first cup I seriously felt a little kick. I felt more awake & alert. I had more energy & I actually didn’t feel hungry between meals. And that was after day one!!!

The coffee itself tastes nice. I often find with a health drink, they can taste flavourless & quite frankly a little disgusting. So what a pleasure it is to drink a nice cup of coffee.

Now… let’s get to the weightloss aspect. I didn’t expect any weight loss with this coffee. And like I’ve already said I don’t do miracle weightloss aids. But… along with a healthy diet I lost 5lbs during my trial of this coffee. That’s right… 3 days… 3 cups of coffee… 5 whole lbs!!! I was speechless.

I’m sure some folk will say it’s a placebo effect etc… but as someone who has gone through a lengthy weightloss journey, this deffinitely feels to me like an extra little boost. Well, put it this way – I’m so convinced that it works that I’ve bought myself a whole box.

I’m actually so impressed. If you’re intrigued & would like more info, then head on over to the Nulife Facebook Page.

I can’t wait to see more results!

Thanks so much for reading & I hope you’ve found my review useful.

New Year… New Me? Nope!

1 Jan

Happy New Year Folks ✨

I don’t go in for all this “New Year – New Me” twoddle… I happen to like ‘me’. I always think if you’re starting a new year with massive expectations of yourself then you’re setting yourself up to fail. You can improve any aspect of your life at any moment in time. If there’s something you want to promise to yourself – then make it something personal & soul felt to you… like… embracing who are you. We all need little tweaks now & then or sometimes even major MOTs in the shape of a healthier lifestyle or a rain check on how we treat people. But don’t go thinking you have to make a 100% change of you are. I spent far too many years doubting myself & allowing others to put me down. I always thought I needed to change… but you know what? I removed myself from those toxic few & happiness followed ✨

One of the worst & best things that ever happened to me was having my right leg rebuilt. It was the worst in the sense that I had to endure 3 horrid surgeries with literally years of grueling physio. But worse than that… Still to this day I have to face people saying to me “well… you only broke your leg… get over it”. It’s the best thing that’s happened to me, for many reasons:

  • It’s made me very aware & sympathetic to hidden illnesses & disabilities that people go through & battle everyday. You look at me & you don’t see 24hr pain, 7 days a week. I mean physical pain in the form of nerve damage, arthritis & 3 collapsed discs in my spine. I’m not looking sympathy as it’s made me stronger. It’s also made me aware that people may need help & support… sometimes you need to ask the right questions… but when you do you could change someones life with a kind word or support ❤️
  • Being stuck indoors for almost 3 years collectively took me to the lowest point I’d ever been too… It really gave me time to reflect & analyse ‘me’. I started to see things that I’d never seen before. For all I was unhappy with my current physical situation of practically living in hospitals, I was actually more unhappy with the person I’d allowed myself to become. I was overweight… I was unhealthy & worst of all… I didn’t like myself. Not liking myself had allowed others to keep me down. If you have a low opinion of yourself & then others tell you you’re ‘rubbish’… well you just believe it. I had the misfortune of working with one or two people who found it acceptable to put others down in order to make themselves ‘better’. I mean… how ugly is that!? Well… I made a vow in Sheffield Northern Generals orthopedic waiting room that no one would ever put me down again. I also vowwed that I’d get healthy – not go on a mad restrictive diet… just, to get healthy with no unrealistic expectations of myself. I also promised to start ‘liking me’.
  • Then came the ‘Glad Game’… rather than aspiring to be someone I wasn’t or looking at what others had – I made a list of every single good thing in my life… everything I was ‘Glad’ of. You know what… My Glad List was pretty long!
  • But… the most poignant moment in my life to date that came from my leg surgeries… meeting a Man who was going through the exact same thing as me – battling infection & bone misalignment. I was lucky… I managed to get through the pain & surgeries with 2 legs. Unfortunately he didn’t. His right leg was removed. I was devastated for him. It dawned on me that whatever I was battling… Someone had it worse. That was the day that my complaining ended… & my sparkle started.

Everyone has a battle in their life… no matter how small… it’s all relative to them. Just take a moment to appreciate you & what you have…. and if you’re not 100% happy with that, start making a few small changes. Those small changes begin to become BIG changes. It’s taken me from 2011 to get to this point that I’m currently at. I’m most definitely not perfect & I can always benefit from a few tweaks… But I’m so happy. This is perfect to me & that’s all matters.

Improvements can’t come from other people & on the same note – don’t change for other people… Do it for you. If you feel as though you haven’t got anyone to talk too… then you can always drop me a message via this blog. I’m no expert… But I’m human & I have a heart.l ❤️

As in my previous post, my resolutions this year aren’t about ‘change’… they’re about improving & maintaining. If I could, then I’d wave a magic wand to give everyone happiness… but sadly I can’t. But, I can always help you find your magic dust to sprinkle on yourself.l ✨

Last night before I fell asleep I watched that Shia LeBoeuf “do it” video, it’s hands down one of the funniest things I’ve seen… but… it does inspire me too. If you listen to the words he’s actually talking common sense… pair that with his actions & his tone then you’ll fall about laughing. But honestly… that video don’t half lift me. A motivational speech shouldn’t be serious & stern… it should be utterly hilarious like this one that makes you realise that you shouldn’t take things too seriously. Seriously… if you’ve not seen it – then click the link above. Save the link in your favourites for when you’re down… I can guarantee that it’ll give you a boost… & a good laugh

#LifeGoals – my new favourite hashtag. Goals are imperative to my success. I need a goal to work toward. It’s what keeps me focused. My goal for the last 3 & a bit years has been to have a baby. But I needed to lose weight & become healthy. So I did. Now my goal is to maintain my healthy lifestyle whilst being the best Mammy I can be 💙

I didn’t actually mean for this post to be a total ‘ New Year – New Me’ rant… But I began typing & this is what came out. I hope it speaks to you & maybe gives you some kind of warmth or hope that things are changeable… if you want them to be ❤️

So… Happy New Year & thank you for reading,

Love & Huggles,

Time for Reflection and Time to Achieve

31 Dec

Hi folks ✨

I just wanted to take this opportunity to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU to each & every one of you for your continued support. In Sept 2012 I started my weightloss journey as a UK size 24. I wanted to lead a healthier lifestyle in the hopes of gaining my confidence back & becoming healthy enough to conceive. I got down to a UK size 12 last year & managed to maintain with the support of my family, friends & you lot!!! In July of this year we found out it’d finally happened… We are going to be PARENTS!!! 💙 It’s been an up & down journey with lots of complications, but I’m now at 27wks & a UK size 14/16. So 2016 will see the birth of our miracle boy & me getting back to my target size of a size 12. I know I can do it with everyone’s support. Once again… Thank you! This blog has helped me to overcome my weight issues & you’ve all inspired me to keep going. So… My resolutions for this year are:

  • To be the best Mammy I can be
  • To continue blogging… This blog is almost 6 years old
  • To continue with my healthier lifestyle
  • Be as successful as I can be & build our business
  • Be more assertive & strong

It’s so overwhelming to know that you’re reading this blog in 64 different countries. This blog began in 2010 as a Wedding blog to help me document our wedding plans… but with everything life has thrown my way since then, it gradually transformed into my lifestyle blog. It’s just nice to know that you’re reading… enjoying… & supporting me.

This morning I received more goodies to review!!! I have been sent the most beautiful travel toiletry set for my hospital bag when I go in to have my baby, from Gilchrist & Soames. Talk about luxury… the bag itself came in a lovely dust bag… I simply love it!!! The set included: Shampoo, Conditioner, Shower Gel, Bath Salts, Face Mist, Lip Balm, Body Soap, Face Soap & a Loofah. It’s gorgeous & looks right at home in my hospital bag. You can get free UK delivery with code: FS2015. I also received an Eyeko Skinny Liquid Liner. I wear a lot of eye make up on a daily basis & I have to say that Eyeko is my favourite liquid liner brand. If you’re not very good at winged liner… then this is the liner for you! It’s so easy to use… Much easier than a separate wand & pot. The Eyeko Liner is just like a felt pen really & it also holds it shape. It stays put all day too… I always get compliments on my eye liner. Right now you can save 25% on all Eyeko purchases quoting code: NYE25

Talking of discount codes… Top Collar are doing an amazing deal right now where you can try their home baked doggy treats for FREE!!! They use gluten free flour… all fresh ingredients & are great on sensitive tummies! You even get them delivered to your door in a personalised box for your pooch! If you fancy giving them a go simply follow this link: http://www.topcollar.co.uk/#!book-delivery/yqpgz then add code: COCO. My Coco is a very fussy little furbaby & she absolutely adores these biscuits. I’d seriously recommend giving them a go.

So… what are our plans for tonight? Well, we shall be having a lovely snuggly night in. Just me, the hubster & Coco. I have party snacks & yummy nibbles… I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else ❤️ Tomorrow I’m going to be cooking a Christmas Dinner & then at teatime we’ll be heading round to our neighbours for snacks. Nice chilled celebrations for us this year ✨ I’ve put make up on… but I’ll be seeing the New Year in, in my pyjama’s. I had to take this pic to show just how long & thick my hair has become… It’s growing so fast. It must be the pregnancy hormones.

Oooooo… well the postie has just dropped the latest issue of Elle & Elle Decoration through the door… so I think I’m going to go & give those a read!

Enjoy your evening whatever you get up too, thanks so much for reading & continuing to do so &…

Epic Weekends

26 Jul

Hi Everyone,

I’m literally loving this weekend. I love a weekend when not much happens, it gives you the chance to recharge your batteries ✨

Yesterday’s BBQ almost didn’t happen! Around 4pm the big black clouds started to roll in & with it came the rain. We were so gutted! So… We huddled inside & had some nachos

The crappy weather only lasted around an hour. After that… Came the cloudless blue sky & sunshine ☀️ So – out we went into the back garden to crack on with our BBQ
Every BBQ needs tea & some summer tunes ☺️ it took us ages to deliberate over what food we wanted to BBQ. So we decided upon: Angus Beef Burgers, Hickory Beef Kebabs & Sweet chilli Sausages along with some Bacon & Maple Syrup Sausages… Soooooo not diet food at all!

Matt made an epic burger that consisted of: sausage, burger, cheese, gherkin & BBQ sauce!

It turned into such a lovely evening of chatting & eating lol

We rounded the evening off with a horror film – Woman in Black 2. That film was truly appalling! It wasn’t a patch on the first one. There were no jump scares at all. I was really disappointed! It’s been a while since I actually watched a new decent horror film.

Today has been another lazy day. Waaaaaaaaay more lazy yesterday! But that’s okay coz the weather is awful today. It really feels like Winter. I’m actually currently laying on my massive cuddler chair in the lounge with my blanket & Coco

This morning was really lazy. We stayed in bed until after 11am drinking tea & watching TV

We totally needed it though as I’ve been feeling super tired lately. Plus, the hubster has been working really hard lately on various projects at work.

Once we got up I popped a small gammon joint in the slow cooker with some diet coke, paprika & garlic. That shall be our tea later on tonight. I think I’ll just do baked potatoes & salad to go with it – nice & simple. For breakfast we had an all vegetarian breakfast & coffee

I don’t know if many of you have the time hop app? But I came across this post from last year

It was really good to see that post as it served as a reminder as to how far I’ve come over the last 2, almost 3 years now. I decided to do another comparison with a pic I took yesterday

I feel so much healthier, happier & confident these days. I always had a smile on my face back then… But now it’s even bigger. I wanted to lose the weight & get healthier for many reasons:

  1. Help the pain in my leg I have from nerve damage
  2. So one day I’d be healthy enough to have children (the health risks surrounding obesity & pregnancy scare me so much)
  3. To look better & feel more confident
  4. I have heart disease & stroke in my family so my risk factors are high without the added pressure of obesity
  5. I was sick of feeling ill from the extra weight I was carrying

Weight is a personal issue & no one should ever feel pressured into gaining or losing weight. You need to do what is right for you. Only you know how you truly feel & how your body is functioning. For me – adopting a healthier lifestyle & changing some bad habits was the right thing.

Well… I’m going to carry on with my lazy day ❤️

Thanks so much for reading & hi to my new readers in Norway ✨

Love & Huggles,

The Fear

29 Aug

Hi Readers 🙂 I’m really sorry that its been quite a while since my last blog post. I’ve just been incredibly busy of late so I thought I’d take this opportunity to write a blog post while I’m on vacation and chilling out 🙂 This is going to be another very truthful blog post.

The Fear – now that is something that used to control my life… The fear of being hungry! Now I know you must be thinking “that’s crazy”… But honestly that is the truth. When I was fat I would constantly panic about “but what if I’m hungry?” This fear would be worse if I was out for the day… I noticed this only last week whilst sat in Wetherspoons with my husband. We’d gone out for lunch and I’d decided to have a 5 Bean Chilli with Rice which is a far cry from the mega burger and pint of lager that I used to frequently order along with the sides of onion rings and cheesy garlic bread. Well on the next table there was a family of 4 and the oldest daughter was a big girl and she was analysing everything on the menu and kept saying “well I need to order enough or I’ll be starving later”… That’s when it struck me, that, that was exactly what I used to do. It got me thinking about my old bad habits. Well… So what if you do get hungry – it’s not the end of world. But when you’re overweight it is.

I mean even these days my whole day still does revolve around food but in a very different way. I just like to know that I’m organised and that I have plenty ingredients in to make something healthy, nutritious and yummy for tea. Or if I am going out for the day I generally know what the lowest fat things are on the menu these days. The only time I tend to indulge nowadays is when I’m on holiday or if I really do fancy that piece of chocolate cake for dessert.

Basically for me I think my weight gain was a totally mental thing. It was my weird and unhealthy relationship with food and the constant fear of being hungry. But guess what… If your tummy is rumbling and you’re hungry for your next meal then you’re probably going to really enjoy that meal. I confessed to my husband that actually back when I was fat there was very few times that I ever felt real hunger. Really all I was doing was just topping up my food intake… Rather than actually eating when I was hungry. Instead of letting my tummy tell me when it was time to eat… I’d let my head tell me it was time to eat, irrelevant of if I was actually hungry or not. I think that was the scariest thing about starting a new healthy lifestyle… I was worried I’d be hungry all of the time.

I’m not going to lie, it did take me around 2 month to get used to eating when I was actually hungry. The feeling of being hungry and having a rumbly tummy was such a new experience to me. But now it’s just normality. If I do eat too much I tend to feel really poorly now. Don’t they say that your body I’d a temple? Well if its a temple then why should we treat it like a dumping a ground?
We are what we eat… Now that’s another very good saying!
It don’t matter how much exercise you perceive yourself to do, you need to back up that exercise with good healthy and nutritious food. If not then you’re only going to undo all of that good hard work. But don’t kid yourself into believing something that isn’t true. I always used to tell myself that I wasn’t fat and that I was only a little over weight but guess what… I WAS FAT. Until you can be honest with yourself then you won’t achieve your goals.
The photographic evidence speaks for itself.

I’ve noticed that’s its not just been my weight that has been affected by my new lifestyle… My hair and skin are also so much healthier. I’ve actually been told A LOT recently that I look younger these days! Now I’m happy with that lol. At thirty something I’m more than happy to be told that I only look 23 years old! Lol.

Here’s a little collage of some of the breakfasts, lunches and dinners that I’ve prepared and eaten over this last month
Nobody is telling you that you can’t have anything naughty ever gain… Coz let me tell you… While I’ve been on vacation these last few days I’ve had cake, a burger and some of the coal beers lol! You need to treat yourself! You just also need to know when to say no also!

Here’s the photographic evidence of my naughtiness… I’m not trying to kid anyone into believing that I’m a total saint with my calorie intake… Because I do still treat myself… Otherwise I’d never be able to maintain a low fat diet most of the time. If you would like to follow my Facebook page: www.facebook.com/ixxypoco then you’ll see on a more daily basis that I’d o document everything that I eat… I don’t just document the healthy stuff. I’m very honest with all of my followers. I also log everything on my Instagram page too. You can follow me @ixxypoco too on Instagram.

I do have to confess that a soya latte from Costa with a sweetener is one of my new favourite vices… mmmm yum!

Something new that I’ve started is doing sit ups morning and night. I do 75 on a morning then 75 before bed… In just 5 weeks I’ve lost 2.5 inches off of my waist. I’ve gone from a 38″ waist to a 35.5″ waist in just 5 weeks which to me is amazing. I’m aiming for 31″ as medically a waist over 31″ in women increases your chances of heart disease and diabetes. Which are pretty scary statistics I think. I only started with 10 sit-ups and just started to build from there. So it just goes to show that small changes on a regular basis can have huge results in the long run! 🙂

Well… Thanks again for reading and all of your positive support!

Lots of love,

Hayley xx

“On the great clock of time, there’s but one word – NOW”

8 Jul

Never a truer word spoken. The time is now… there’s never going to be a right moment to start losing weight… But by changing your lifestyle today, you’re giving yourself extra time in the future. Medical experts all over the world are reporting that a healthy lifestyle and a healthy weight is the key to a longer life span. I don’t know about you but I’m planning on being around for as long as I possibly can! 🙂

The easy thing to do is to try and block out your weight gain… but the right and often the harder thing to do is to admit that you need to change, before it becomes an even bigger problem to solve. being unhealthy and over-weight will only lead to a dark future ahead of health problems and pain.

I’m such a bookworm/geek and just couldn’t help dropping that quote in by Dumbledore… he’s a clever man that Dumbledore. I’ve often thought about the above quote while I’ve been on my weightloss journey so far, I just found that it kind of related to me and made sense.

Try not to get hung up on labelling your weightloss goals… I try to steer clear of the word ‘diet’. I just think there’s a lot of stigma attached to that word;

  1. It can make you feel like you’re under pressure to succeed
  2. Once people know you’re on a diet they tend to taunt you and try to get you to eat junk food
  3. There are too many ‘faddy’ diets out there that can bamboozle your brain!

So, say no to diets and yes to plain old healthy eating 🙂

By just adopting a healthy relationship with food you’ll feel more in control and less likely to give yourself such a hard time. With healthy eating you can still have those treats… you just have to plan them into your healthy eating regime. But please do remember that you’re not a dog… so don’t reward yourself with a teat! I guarantee that it will get so that you enjoy your healthier foods more than your old favourites of greasy, salty, oily take aways! Also this way it’s not as obvious that you’re trying to lose weight, because you’ll still be eating good sized portions and regular food. Not these stupid calorie controlled ready meals that wouldn’t even fill up my  teeny Teacup Chihuahua! lol. There is no way that I could live my life drinking detox shakes, slimming soups and protein only meals! Yak! Plus… it makes your breath STINK!

The only negativity I’ve encountered about the whole healthy eating ethos is that people seem to be hung up on how much time it’s going to take them prepare everything from scratch… welll… I’ll let you into a secret… It don’t take long at all!

Here are a few examples of things I snack on, have for breakfast, lunch and tea… yes I’ve been timing myself all week when preparing my food… sad I know!

Saints and Sinners

1 Jul

Well I think we can all agree to being Saints and Sinners where food is concerned… don’t you? I was a little bit of a sinner this weekend and indulged in some thin and crispy freshly deli made pizza

Back in my ‘fatty days’ I would’ve scoffed the whole lot down with mountains of chips topped with cheese. At least on Saturday I accompanied my pizza slices with fresh salad 🙂 It was still very naughty though… but completely divine!  I needed that blow out.

Anyway… as of today I’m feeling positive about shifting my last bit of weight. I’m still undecided about how much I want to lose… all I can say is that I am going to aim for 14lbs at the moment… once I reach that goal I think I’ll try for another 7lbs-14lbs. I am very happy with my achievements so far, but I know I still have some weight to lose…  sorry I mean ‘Get Rid Of’… coz I certainly do not want it back!

I’m really enjoying summer this year. As I’ve said before – hot weather is no fun when you’re a fat lass. Your flabby thighs rub together and you get all hot and bothered and sweaty. Not to mention that you don’t look nice in pretty, colourful summer clothes. Now, I just love the sun! I’m wearing bright colours and feeling great. So much has changed since last summer.

It’s not just my weight that’s changed… it’s my whole personality  Not to mention the fact that my skin, nails and hair are so much healthier too! I’m so glad I made this change in my life. If you’re toying with the idea of changing your health too… then do it! Don’t think about it – do it! Today is the day to take control and make your life happier… healthier… and… longer!

My weightloss has really slowed down now so I’m trying a few tricks to boost it again. I’m trying to not have any cereals or bread in my diet Monday to Friday. I don’t find this hard to do throughout the day… but on a morning I find it difficult to find something filling to have for breakfast. Look no further than baked beans, tinned tomatoes, poached eggs, scrambled eggs, boiled eggs and unsmoked back bacon (grilled).

This morning I had half a tin of baked beans with 2 poached eggs… low calorie and very low in fat. The perfect combination! It kept me going all the way until lunch time 🙂

Another trick is to make sure that you have plenty snacks… if like me you are a ‘picker’ then having a little tub of berries is brilliant to snack on. Or an apple chopped up!

If you go for a nice colourful mix of berries you’ll get a sugar hit as well as finding them appealing to look at! Who needs a bag of Skittles or Haribo anyways 🙂 This way you can pick and snack to your hearts content without ruining your diet.

I went for a night out Friday just gone with a friend I’d not seen in a while. I had such a good time, it’s such a nice feeling to not have to be constantly aware of trying to hide my flabby stomach as I’m sitting down, with a coat or my bag or a cushion. I’m not constantly dreading having to walk up the flight of stairs in the pub to the bathroom when I need to pee! No seriously… that was one of the things that used to get me all worked up. I’d be so out of breath walking up them and I’d be paranoid about anyone walking up behind me on the stairs as they’d get a right eyeful of my wobbly bum! It sounds stupid and over the top but those were the things that’d be running through my head. I never want to be in that situation ever again and I never want anyone out there to feel like that either! It’s nice to get compliments too rather than thinking everyone is looking at you in utter disgust.

These ramblings help me to stay on track and keep myself focused with my weightloss… I’m so glad that I discovered blogging lol. I know I say it on pretty much every blog post; but any time you need any tips or moral support please don’t hesitate to contact me. You can find me on Facebook , Twitter and Instagram @ixxypoco or you can message me via this page.

I dreamed I’d be the thin girl again… and guess what… it started to come true with a little bit of dedication and hardwork… if I can do it… so can you! 😀

Thank you for reading! 🙂

Breakfast… It’s the Most Important Meal Of the Day!

26 Apr

Hi Everyone,

I hope you’re all enjoying this sunny weather. The thought of Summer is always a fantastic thing to inspire you to lose weight… I just keep thinking of cute summer dresses I can buy.

Well we’ve all heard that age old saying that ‘Breakfast is the most important meal of the day’. In my opinion this is true. A good nutritious breakfast will set you up for the day and you’ll be less likely to snack before your lunch. There are a variety of things you can have that are filling and won’t break your diet.

This is one of my favourite quick and easy breakfasts: 2 Weetabix with skimmed milk and sliced banana. The banana will sweeten the cereal so you don’t need to add sugar and the skimmed milk is very low in fat. You’ll feel full until lunch and you’ve also managed to squeeze in a portion of fruit too. The great thing about Weetabix is that you don’t need to weigh it out… You can have 2 of the bisks… Rather than weighting out 30g of regular cereals.

If I have a little more time on a morning I do like a bacon sandwich

Brown bread with a thin layer of low fat sunflower spread, a teaspoon of tomato ketchup, black pepper and 3 rashers of unsmoked back bacon grilled. So yummy and it’ll feel like a treat. But as long as you don’t go over board with your condiments or buttery spreads you’ll be fine. Just remember that you need to grill and not fry the bacon.

These are just a few ideas that you can use. Remember that eggs are a great breakfast ingredient and again they’re low in fat and very filling. Just always remember to be fully conscious of everything that you put in your mouth. Count those calories and saturated fats… And you’ll succeed in look fab for the summer!
