Feeling Spicy

4 Mar

Hi folks,

Can not believe we are into March already. It’s been such a quick year already. My days seem to just fly over so fast, life moves so fast. Sometimes it feels a struggle to fit in family life, work & not to mention trying to cook from scratch every day.

I love homemade healthy food & when it’s quick & simple… even better! I don’t like plan food either… I like something with a little spice!

This week I’ve been creating some lovely, quick & easy meals, using my new fave ingredient!

On Monday I made a gorgeous Chilli in the Slow Cooker. The crushed chillies add just enough spice. Its the perfect staple to keep in your spices cupboard.

To make, I threw the following into the crock pot:
250g Lean Beef Mince
Chopped Celery
Diced Garlic
Diced Onion
Sliced Mixed Peppers
Chopped Mini Corns
Tin of Chopped Tomatoes
Tin of Kidney Beans
A good helping of Schwartz Chilli Flakes.

I left it to cook all day. I thickened with a little tomato purée before serving.

This Chilli was super yummy. Plus, it’s totally healthy as i didn’t use any added salts or oils. Perfect!

On Tuesday I made a delicious Moroccan inspired Lamb Stew.

I’ve thrown the following into the crock pot:
300g Diced Lamb
Diced Celery
Diced Onion
Tin of Chopped Tomatoes
Handful of Dried Apricots
Fresh Coriander
Mixed Peppers Sliced
1 Tin Chick Peas
Crushed Garlic
A good Sprinkle of Schwartz Crushed Chillies

Both meals were utterly delicious, healthy & so simply to make. Making your won sauces tastes so much fresher than using a premed jar of sauce. This little jar of spices has gone so far & i still have loads left! Well worth the money!
Tonight I’ve used the chillies as a seasoning. I sprinkled on a pork loin & grilled, then served alongside a baked potato & salad.
This little jar of spices is so versatile & a total must have for any ingredients cupboard.
It’s amazing how eating healthy really lifts your mood & makes you feel so much more positive. I’ve loved how easy these meals were to make.
I can’t to try more recipes!
Thanks so much as aways for reading & I hope you’ve found my review useful.

Chilly Days Out

16 Dec

Hi folks,

It might be feeling very chilly & wintry outside… but that doesn’t stop us from enjoying the great outdoors. Being a ‘boy mama’ means I spend a lot of time outside foraging under rocks for creepy crawlies & hunting through woods for Gruffalo’s & Bears.

We spend lots of time walking & exploring on a weekend. Even in the colder months, you’ll find us having a picnic all wrapped up.

We were sent some lovely ION8 Leakproof Water Bottles. Perfect for those days out!

The bottles we have are 350ml. Perfect size for children, but also it means you’re not logging around giant water bottles. These lovely bottles are 100% leak proof. They’d be ideal for packed lunches!

We have the lovely Lady Bug design & the orange.

Both bottles have a frosted kind of texture, making it perfect for grip while on the go. There’s also a great one touch button for opening & there’s also a little switch you can flick that will completely lock the bottle. So you can pop it in your bag with no fear of leaks! Perfect! No one wants a soggy handbag.

Both boys have found them easy to drink from. There’s even a little carry strap too!

The bottles are suitable for both cold & warm drinks.

You can find ION8 Leakproof on social media too!

Give them a follow to keep up to date with new products & promotions!

Thank you so much as always for reading!

Out and About with Versatrax

26 Jul

Hi folks,

We’ve had such lovely weather for the last few days… I really do hope that this is it now… Summer has finally landed!?

I can’t believe that Seth has completed his first full term of pre-school. I’m so glad that we decided to take early intake with him rather than waiting until September. He has come on so much & his development has been amazing in the last few month.

I love that each day he gets excited for his walk to school with Mammy & Baby Ted. It’s one of the first things he says when he wakes up. Driving whilst doing the school run is so not enjoyable. Parking is a nightmare! We walk too & from school everyday. I think it’s good for kids to walk & to get out in the fresh air, rather than bundled in to a car all of the time. We’re very lucky in that our school is only a very short walk away. It only takes us 10-15mins to get there… depending on how slowly Seth wants to walk lol.

Ted just loves being out & about in a buggy too. We’ve just received the Joie Versatrax. It is absolutely gorgeous.

With Joie you always know you’re going to get safety & quality. But the Versatrax isn’t just reliable & safe… it also has that ‘fancy feel’. It has lots of added little extras that just make it all the more luxurious. The tan leather trims & cup holder – really finish this travel system off perfectly.

I love that this is a sturdy travel system, yet folds so compact. It literally folds down in half. Also, there’s no back breaking manoeuvres or fancy footwork needed to collapse this pram. It’s so simple & quick. I am quite literally the most clumsy person I know, & even I have mastered this easy procedure. A click of the safety switch & you’re pretty much done!

Once folded this pram will stand freely. So it’s perfect if you’re short on space. Also, you won’t need to prop it against your hallway wall. There’s nothing worse than a pram or buggy that doesn’t free stand & has to be propped against your cream walls. It’s also great for if you’re in a restaurant etc… you can fold it & stand it out of the way with ease.

I love that this pram gives you the option of forward or rear facing. Ted is 8 month now & loves to be nosy & look at what’s going on. However, he is teething & it’s been making him a bit upset. Sometimes he likes to rear face when he’s feeling a little under the weather. So the Versatrax gives us that option. It’s so simple to unclip & turn round.

Like all Joie products… the Versatrax is super comfy. We’ve had no complaints from Ted. The seat is comfy & has a nice soft feel. No sharp edges or corners. Everything is finished off beautifully. The seat will fully recline & has a soft touch harness. There’s also calf/leg support too. So your little one can really kick back & relax.

The Versatrax handles beautifully. The push bar is comfy to hold & has a one handed push. Now you all know that one handed push is a big requirement for me. I need to be able to push the pram/buggy with one hand while I’m holding Seth’s hand too. We have 2 busy roads to get across on our school run. So need to have hands available. Also, I’ve been diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome in my right wrist/hand. Vibrations can really trigger the pain. The Versatrax has lovely foam filled rubber tyres making it a smooth ride for your little one & a comfy one for you while pushing it. There’s hardly no vibration.

There’s also a really big storage basket on the bottom & is very easy to access. A big basket is a must for us, as I just seem to have so much stuff with me all of the time lol.

Here is a list of the features:

  • Suitable from birth with flat reclining seat
  • Adjustable forward and rearward facing seat
  • Pairs perfectly with Joie infant carriers gemm™, i-Gemm™, i-Level™, and i-Snug™ with the included adapters or with other infant carriers using Maxi-Cosi® style attachment
  • Pairs perfectly with ramble™ XL carry cot using the included adapters
  • One hand easy fold and setup, with seat rearward or forward facing
  • Freestanding when folded
  • Carry strap built in
  • Water repellant canopy
  • Full-size UPF50+ canopy with eyeshade visor
  • Multi-position recline for backrest tilt options
  • 2 position calf support
  • Front and back access storage basket
  • All wheel suspension for a smooth ride
  • Sweet Stride™ single front swivel wheels
  • One touch brakes
  • SoftTouch, 5-point harness
  • Height adjustable pushbar
  • Locking front swivel wheels
  • Cup holder

This really is a fantastic travel system. If you’re looking for a travel system that you can rely on, look fancy, is great on space & easy to use… then this is the one for you. Travel systems have a reputation for being big & bulky. But this certainly isn’t like that. It’s sturdy, lightweight, easy to use & folds very compact. It really is perfect for everyday family life! It’s going to be great for travel too as it doesn’t take up much space in the car! So look out for my review on how it is on holidays!

Thanks so much for reading & I hope you’ve found this review helpful!

Making Memories

20 May

Hi folks,

I love the month of May. Spring is everywhere & everything looks so beautiful… the weather is on the turn to sunnier times & it’s also mine & the hubsters Birthday month.

We always try to do something nice for our birthdays as they’re only 4 days apart. But when you have little ones in tow… plans have to change & adapt. This year we had the most amazing little break in the Yorkshire Dales in a stunning Georgian Cottage.

So… first of all… let me tell you about this simply beautiful cottage. Green Cottage is an elegant Georgian Cottage set on the green of one of Yorkshire’s most picturesque villages. It’s an ideal base to explore the Dales in any season. And… it’s 100% Family-friendly… that includes doggies too. A dog bed & bowl can be provided if needed. Our Coco is such a little diva though & likes her own little comforts – so we took her fave bed & mini food & water bowl… most dog bowls are big enough for her to bathe in lol.

The space itself:

The house is fully detached and set over three floors. Don’t worry thoughif you have little ones, then baby gates can be provided. Seth is 3 & Ted is 6 month so we very much need baby gates on the stairsso this was fab for us. They were already installed too!

Lower Ground Floor

  • Kitchen diner (featuring an extendable table to seat up to 6 guests and fully equipped with Rangemaster cooker, dishwasher, fridge with freezer shelf and microwave along with plenty of good quality cooking and baking equipment, glasses, crockery etc). Honestly…the kitchen has EVERYTHING you could possibly need. Even down to the colourful plastic kids crockery from IKEA that we all know & love & can’t live without! We ate in both nights… did ‘snacky food & we had sparkles… obvs

  • Utility room (with washer-dryer, iron and ironing board and a drying space for muddy boots and outdoor gear)There’s great tray there to stand your dirty shoes in there’s a radiator right underneath the coat rail too – so if you’ve gotten a little damp – everything will dry off.

  • Bathroom (with spa whirlpool bath, and toasty underfloor heating). The bath is utterly divine! I had visions of having an uninterrupted bubble bath with a glass of sparkles… but of course that lasted all of 5 minutes until Seth came bounding in lol. But that’s Mama Life for you!

Ground Floor

  • Living room (sofas to comfortably seat 5, log burner, digital Smart TV with Freeview, BBC iPlayer etc as well as lots of books, maps and games) we took our amazon fire stick with us & connected it to the WiFi. So we were able to watch Disney Life, Netflix & Prime. Please note that the play pen in the living room is ours & not part of the cottage.

  • Snug / third bedroom (large day bed which can be made up into full size single bed, second TV, desk)

  • Shower room (walk in monsoon shower with extra large enclosure, heated towel rail) There is also a toilet. It’s fab as there is literally a toilet on each floor. Essential for toilet training! Seth is totally dry now, but we’re still only in our first month of toilet training… so a toilet on hand is utterly essential lol.

First floor

  • Master bedroom (king size bed with deep, comfortable mattress, large wardrobe and antique dressing table) oodles of spaceLoads of room for a travel cot. A travel cot can be provided too if you don’t want to take one.

  • Twin bedroom (two full size single beds with pocket sprung mattresses, chest of drawers and clothes rail) a waterproof mattress cover can be provided too! Perfect! Please note that the bed guard rail is ours & not part of the cottage.

  • WC with basin (‘Jack and Jill’ style access from both upstairs bedrooms, ideal for families, or can be set up as en-suite for either bedroom)

  • Enclosed garden to rear and side, paved and gravel with outside seating, and a charcoal BBQ
  • Bike store (lockable for up to 5 bikes, can also be used as a pram store)
  • Direct access to the village green – a large expanse of grass free for all to stroll, sit or play
  • Play area visible from back gate – swings, slide, football posts etc. We spent quite a lot of time in the little play area. Seth loves a park. There’s also plenty wide open space to run around or to picnic. But, if you take your fur babies… please ensure you scoop that poop! There’s nothing worse than dog poop making the place dirty!

As you can see from above & from my photos… everything is catered for.

The bedding was so comfy!!! Egyptian cotton bed linen on all beds, 13.5 tog thick duvets (hypoallergenic and feather / down) and plenty of soft and fluffy Egyptian cotton towels. As you can see… Ted had to try out the king size bed lol.

There’s a welcome pack with all the basics for your first couple of days (loo rolls, hand soap, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, bin bags, tea towels and kitchen cleaning supplies) as well as tea, coffee, milk, bread and a few local treats. This was soooo nice!!! It just means that you don’t have to pack a lot of shopping. And it also means that it’s all ready for you to get the kettle straight on when you arrive… coz let’s face it… we all need that first brew when we arrive somewhere! Especially when you’ve had to sing Baby Shark & Old McDonald Farm all the way there lol.

Also… when we arrived there was a lovely big box of toys left out for Seth to explore, as well as plenty children’s books. There were even a few laid out on his bed for him. That was such a lovely touch & Seth was super excited!

So as well as a travel cot, baby gates & toys… the owners can provide a highchair – which Ted thought was VERY comfy & there is also a baby monitor. Oh & I did mention the plastic IKEA crockery, but there’s also a MAM Baby Cup too. Just so many little things that have been added to make your break so much easier! This cottage is really like a home from home.

For our furbabies, there is a lovely fluffy blanket provided & the use of a hose pipe outside to wash down those dirty paws.

Okay… so you’ve heard all about the gorgeous cottage… but what did we do while we were there? We investigated Settle. What a stunning little town. Seth particularly enjoyed The House That Jack Built. He got some lovely new Melissa & Doug toys. There are so many gorgeous shops, tea rooms & places to eat, to investigate. There’s also the Watershed Mill. It is absolutely stunning… the scenery is simply breathtaking. We popped there for a little bite to eat over lunch time.

We spent a lot of time playing on the green outside of the cottage & in the little park. We were only there for 2 nights… next time we’ll be booking for a week.

The cottage has a lovely organised folder of leaflets & places to visit etc… so helpful for when you’re planning days out.

This beautiful cottage is simply worth every penny. If you book before August & quote: “IxxyPoco” you will be given an exclusive discount. You can book a year in advance. So use that code before it runs out. Simply head to Green Cottage on AirBnB & send a message to the owners quoting my blog.

Thanks as always for reading & I hope you’ve been inspired to book yourself a lovely break away ❤️

Sleeping Soundly with Sanggol

18 Mar

Hi folks,

We all love our sleep, but during pregnancy we seem to need it even more. But come nighttime it’s so difficult to get comfy… especially when you’re a tummy sleeper like me!

Even though I’m still in the early stages of pregnancy, I’m having a bit of a ‘Princess & the Pea’ type of scenario going on at night. Laying flat on my stomach is so tender & uncomfortable. During my last pregnancy I was able to tummy sleep to almost 20wks. This time round I feel as though I have a hard rock under my stomach. So as you can imagine… nighttime hasn’t been comfy at all. Well, that was until I discovered the most perfect XL Pregnancy Pillow from Sanggol.

This pillow is a full body support pillow… it’s literally like sleeping in a big warm hug. Honestly… that’s the only way I can describe it.

First of all, I’d like to start by saying – this pillow isn’t just for pregnancy. I say that because I have a bit of a back problem & I’ve had 3 surgeries in the past. I suffer on a daily basis with pain & nighttime always seems to be the worst. This pillow has helped me so much. I got this pillow to help during pregnancy, but it actually turns out I have a pillow for life! This pillow would have been fantastic during my recovery from the surgeries, I really wish I’d discovered them years ago.

As most of you know, I’ve also had my right leg rebuilt with the aid of an external fixator. Again, this pillow would’ve been amazing for supporting my leg & hips during the recovery process.

I’ve actually already become so attached to this pillow over the last few weeks I really feel as though it needs a name lol… so any name ideas… do let me know!

Actually, the hubby also added that he feels more confident in bed as he knows he can’t just roll over & potentially knock me or hurt me. Especially as my bump grows. So it’s like a protective hug too!

Anyway… back to pregnancy.

There’s my ‘hug’ above.

So, you can see this is a full body U-shaped pillow. I don’t use any other pillows in bed. I just lay in between the pillow & the top part acts as your usual head pillow providing support for your neck & shoulders. By wrapping my leg over the pillow when laying on my side I feel I’m getting more support for my hips. Also, as your bump grows you can rest your bump on the pillow. I have a very delicate tummy at the moment as I’m throwing up quite a lot. So this has helped that aspect too.

This pillow just seems to be supporting all aspects of my achiness really. I really cannot fault it. We go on holiday at the end of May & I will most definitely be taking my pillow with me.

The pillow is made from hollow fibre, so it scrunches down to make you comfy, but then bounces & springs back. But don’t worry… I shall keep you all updated via this blog during my pregnancy to let you all know how my pillow is doing so I can prove just how hard wearing it really is. Another good thing – it comes with a complimentary pillow case! So you can easily remove it to wash it. Which is always good, especially if like me you sometimes don’t remove your make up before bed. Panda eye transfer… it’s never a good look for any pillow!

Knowing I need to have a planned c-section – this pillow is going to come in so handy. It’ll be great for recovery. I wish I’d had last time. I can also see how this is going to be great for nursing too. I wonder if I can squeeze it in to my Hospital bag?

Sanggol offer free delivery & a full refund if you’re not 100% satisfied. But to be honest… I really can’t see that happening. I fell in love with it from my first cosy full nights sleep! I couldn’t be without it now.

You can follow Sanggol on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram to keep up to date on news & offers.

I’m planning on doing a YouTube video soon to give you another in depth looksie at this fab pillow.

Thank so much as usual for reading 🙂

I hope you’ve found this review useful!

The Power of Coffee

22 Jun

Hi folks

As I mentioned in my last blog post – I’m working super hard at being healthy. Eating right… drinking plenty of water & trying to fit in daily body magic. But… along with all of these things, I’ve been sampling some coffee. A coffee that improves your mood… improves your energy levels… increases your focus & can even aid with regulating your appetite! So… what is this magical elixir I hear you ask!? Lean Java Bean

Now… you all know that I don’t go in for faddy diets. I don’t like anything that involves meal replacement or dropping to a scarily low calorie diet. I’m all about everything in moderation & losing weight the old fashioned way. I don’t like the idea of weight loss medication either.

Whilst having a catch up with a good friend, she told me about a health drink. A health drink that was coffee! I mean normally we’re bombarded with literature claiming coffee is bad. Lean Java Bean has increased anti-oxidants. Anti-oxidants seems to be some kind of buzz word we hear on health shows & in health magazines… but the top & bottom of it is that they’re fantastic for boosting your immune system, our mood, our memory, skin… etc… so many benefits.

Now… this all sounds great… but does it actually work. I was quite excited at the thought of a magical cup of coffee that’d give me a massive energy boost. I mean, as a Mammy to a 15 month old who juggles work, Mammy-ing & running a house, I can always do with a bit extra energy. You can imagine I was super excited to start my 3 day trial. You literally drink one each morning. Stick to a healthy diet & drink plenty water.

Honestly, I was not expecting to feel any different. But, after my first cup I seriously felt a little kick. I felt more awake & alert. I had more energy & I actually didn’t feel hungry between meals. And that was after day one!!!

The coffee itself tastes nice. I often find with a health drink, they can taste flavourless & quite frankly a little disgusting. So what a pleasure it is to drink a nice cup of coffee.

Now… let’s get to the weightloss aspect. I didn’t expect any weight loss with this coffee. And like I’ve already said I don’t do miracle weightloss aids. But… along with a healthy diet I lost 5lbs during my trial of this coffee. That’s right… 3 days… 3 cups of coffee… 5 whole lbs!!! I was speechless.

I’m sure some folk will say it’s a placebo effect etc… but as someone who has gone through a lengthy weightloss journey, this deffinitely feels to me like an extra little boost. Well, put it this way – I’m so convinced that it works that I’ve bought myself a whole box.

I’m actually so impressed. If you’re intrigued & would like more info, then head on over to the Nulife Facebook Page.

I can’t wait to see more results!

Thanks so much for reading & I hope you’ve found my review useful.

The Fear

29 Aug

Hi Readers 🙂 I’m really sorry that its been quite a while since my last blog post. I’ve just been incredibly busy of late so I thought I’d take this opportunity to write a blog post while I’m on vacation and chilling out 🙂 This is going to be another very truthful blog post.

The Fear – now that is something that used to control my life… The fear of being hungry! Now I know you must be thinking “that’s crazy”… But honestly that is the truth. When I was fat I would constantly panic about “but what if I’m hungry?” This fear would be worse if I was out for the day… I noticed this only last week whilst sat in Wetherspoons with my husband. We’d gone out for lunch and I’d decided to have a 5 Bean Chilli with Rice which is a far cry from the mega burger and pint of lager that I used to frequently order along with the sides of onion rings and cheesy garlic bread. Well on the next table there was a family of 4 and the oldest daughter was a big girl and she was analysing everything on the menu and kept saying “well I need to order enough or I’ll be starving later”… That’s when it struck me, that, that was exactly what I used to do. It got me thinking about my old bad habits. Well… So what if you do get hungry – it’s not the end of world. But when you’re overweight it is.

I mean even these days my whole day still does revolve around food but in a very different way. I just like to know that I’m organised and that I have plenty ingredients in to make something healthy, nutritious and yummy for tea. Or if I am going out for the day I generally know what the lowest fat things are on the menu these days. The only time I tend to indulge nowadays is when I’m on holiday or if I really do fancy that piece of chocolate cake for dessert.

Basically for me I think my weight gain was a totally mental thing. It was my weird and unhealthy relationship with food and the constant fear of being hungry. But guess what… If your tummy is rumbling and you’re hungry for your next meal then you’re probably going to really enjoy that meal. I confessed to my husband that actually back when I was fat there was very few times that I ever felt real hunger. Really all I was doing was just topping up my food intake… Rather than actually eating when I was hungry. Instead of letting my tummy tell me when it was time to eat… I’d let my head tell me it was time to eat, irrelevant of if I was actually hungry or not. I think that was the scariest thing about starting a new healthy lifestyle… I was worried I’d be hungry all of the time.

I’m not going to lie, it did take me around 2 month to get used to eating when I was actually hungry. The feeling of being hungry and having a rumbly tummy was such a new experience to me. But now it’s just normality. If I do eat too much I tend to feel really poorly now. Don’t they say that your body I’d a temple? Well if its a temple then why should we treat it like a dumping a ground?
We are what we eat… Now that’s another very good saying!
It don’t matter how much exercise you perceive yourself to do, you need to back up that exercise with good healthy and nutritious food. If not then you’re only going to undo all of that good hard work. But don’t kid yourself into believing something that isn’t true. I always used to tell myself that I wasn’t fat and that I was only a little over weight but guess what… I WAS FAT. Until you can be honest with yourself then you won’t achieve your goals.
The photographic evidence speaks for itself.

I’ve noticed that’s its not just been my weight that has been affected by my new lifestyle… My hair and skin are also so much healthier. I’ve actually been told A LOT recently that I look younger these days! Now I’m happy with that lol. At thirty something I’m more than happy to be told that I only look 23 years old! Lol.

Here’s a little collage of some of the breakfasts, lunches and dinners that I’ve prepared and eaten over this last month
Nobody is telling you that you can’t have anything naughty ever gain… Coz let me tell you… While I’ve been on vacation these last few days I’ve had cake, a burger and some of the coal beers lol! You need to treat yourself! You just also need to know when to say no also!

Here’s the photographic evidence of my naughtiness… I’m not trying to kid anyone into believing that I’m a total saint with my calorie intake… Because I do still treat myself… Otherwise I’d never be able to maintain a low fat diet most of the time. If you would like to follow my Facebook page: www.facebook.com/ixxypoco then you’ll see on a more daily basis that I’d o document everything that I eat… I don’t just document the healthy stuff. I’m very honest with all of my followers. I also log everything on my Instagram page too. You can follow me @ixxypoco too on Instagram.

I do have to confess that a soya latte from Costa with a sweetener is one of my new favourite vices… mmmm yum!

Something new that I’ve started is doing sit ups morning and night. I do 75 on a morning then 75 before bed… In just 5 weeks I’ve lost 2.5 inches off of my waist. I’ve gone from a 38″ waist to a 35.5″ waist in just 5 weeks which to me is amazing. I’m aiming for 31″ as medically a waist over 31″ in women increases your chances of heart disease and diabetes. Which are pretty scary statistics I think. I only started with 10 sit-ups and just started to build from there. So it just goes to show that small changes on a regular basis can have huge results in the long run! 🙂

Well… Thanks again for reading and all of your positive support!

Lots of love,

Hayley xx

“On the great clock of time, there’s but one word – NOW”

8 Jul

Never a truer word spoken. The time is now… there’s never going to be a right moment to start losing weight… But by changing your lifestyle today, you’re giving yourself extra time in the future. Medical experts all over the world are reporting that a healthy lifestyle and a healthy weight is the key to a longer life span. I don’t know about you but I’m planning on being around for as long as I possibly can! 🙂

The easy thing to do is to try and block out your weight gain… but the right and often the harder thing to do is to admit that you need to change, before it becomes an even bigger problem to solve. being unhealthy and over-weight will only lead to a dark future ahead of health problems and pain.

I’m such a bookworm/geek and just couldn’t help dropping that quote in by Dumbledore… he’s a clever man that Dumbledore. I’ve often thought about the above quote while I’ve been on my weightloss journey so far, I just found that it kind of related to me and made sense.

Try not to get hung up on labelling your weightloss goals… I try to steer clear of the word ‘diet’. I just think there’s a lot of stigma attached to that word;

  1. It can make you feel like you’re under pressure to succeed
  2. Once people know you’re on a diet they tend to taunt you and try to get you to eat junk food
  3. There are too many ‘faddy’ diets out there that can bamboozle your brain!

So, say no to diets and yes to plain old healthy eating 🙂

By just adopting a healthy relationship with food you’ll feel more in control and less likely to give yourself such a hard time. With healthy eating you can still have those treats… you just have to plan them into your healthy eating regime. But please do remember that you’re not a dog… so don’t reward yourself with a teat! I guarantee that it will get so that you enjoy your healthier foods more than your old favourites of greasy, salty, oily take aways! Also this way it’s not as obvious that you’re trying to lose weight, because you’ll still be eating good sized portions and regular food. Not these stupid calorie controlled ready meals that wouldn’t even fill up my  teeny Teacup Chihuahua! lol. There is no way that I could live my life drinking detox shakes, slimming soups and protein only meals! Yak! Plus… it makes your breath STINK!

The only negativity I’ve encountered about the whole healthy eating ethos is that people seem to be hung up on how much time it’s going to take them prepare everything from scratch… welll… I’ll let you into a secret… It don’t take long at all!

Here are a few examples of things I snack on, have for breakfast, lunch and tea… yes I’ve been timing myself all week when preparing my food… sad I know!

Breakfast Poached

Poached Eggs and Beans.

Preparation Time: 7mins (Heat beans in microwave while you poach eggs in poaching pan)

Scrambled Eggs (I use skimmed milk with my eggs – no butter) and Beans.

Preparation Time: 4mins (Heat Beans as above while you scramble your eggs)

10 Cal Hartley's Jelly

Hartley’s 10 Calorie Jelly Pot.

Preparation Time: 0mins

Easiyo with Fruit

Saints and Sinners

1 Jul

Well I think we can all agree to being Saints and Sinners where food is concerned… don’t you? I was a little bit of a sinner this weekend and indulged in some thin and crispy freshly deli made pizza

Back in my ‘fatty days’ I would’ve scoffed the whole lot down with mountains of chips topped with cheese. At least on Saturday I accompanied my pizza slices with fresh salad 🙂 It was still very naughty though… but completely divine!  I needed that blow out.

Anyway… as of today I’m feeling positive about shifting my last bit of weight. I’m still undecided about how much I want to lose… all I can say is that I am going to aim for 14lbs at the moment… once I reach that goal I think I’ll try for another 7lbs-14lbs. I am very happy with my achievements so far, but I know I still have some weight to lose…  sorry I mean ‘Get Rid Of’… coz I certainly do not want it back!

I’m really enjoying summer this year. As I’ve said before – hot weather is no fun when you’re a fat lass. Your flabby thighs rub together and you get all hot and bothered and sweaty. Not to mention that you don’t look nice in pretty, colourful summer clothes. Now, I just love the sun! I’m wearing bright colours and feeling great. So much has changed since last summer.

It’s not just my weight that’s changed… it’s my whole personality  Not to mention the fact that my skin, nails and hair are so much healthier too! I’m so glad I made this change in my life. If you’re toying with the idea of changing your health too… then do it! Don’t think about it – do it! Today is the day to take control and make your life happier… healthier… and… longer!

My weightloss has really slowed down now so I’m trying a few tricks to boost it again. I’m trying to not have any cereals or bread in my diet Monday to Friday. I don’t find this hard to do throughout the day… but on a morning I find it difficult to find something filling to have for breakfast. Look no further than baked beans, tinned tomatoes, poached eggs, scrambled eggs, boiled eggs and unsmoked back bacon (grilled).

This morning I had half a tin of baked beans with 2 poached eggs… low calorie and very low in fat. The perfect combination! It kept me going all the way until lunch time 🙂

Another trick is to make sure that you have plenty snacks… if like me you are a ‘picker’ then having a little tub of berries is brilliant to snack on. Or an apple chopped up!

If you go for a nice colourful mix of berries you’ll get a sugar hit as well as finding them appealing to look at! Who needs a bag of Skittles or Haribo anyways 🙂 This way you can pick and snack to your hearts content without ruining your diet.

I went for a night out Friday just gone with a friend I’d not seen in a while. I had such a good time, it’s such a nice feeling to not have to be constantly aware of trying to hide my flabby stomach as I’m sitting down, with a coat or my bag or a cushion. I’m not constantly dreading having to walk up the flight of stairs in the pub to the bathroom when I need to pee! No seriously… that was one of the things that used to get me all worked up. I’d be so out of breath walking up them and I’d be paranoid about anyone walking up behind me on the stairs as they’d get a right eyeful of my wobbly bum! It sounds stupid and over the top but those were the things that’d be running through my head. I never want to be in that situation ever again and I never want anyone out there to feel like that either! It’s nice to get compliments too rather than thinking everyone is looking at you in utter disgust.

These ramblings help me to stay on track and keep myself focused with my weightloss… I’m so glad that I discovered blogging lol. I know I say it on pretty much every blog post; but any time you need any tips or moral support please don’t hesitate to contact me. You can find me on Facebook , Twitter and Instagram @ixxypoco or you can message me via this page.

I dreamed I’d be the thin girl again… and guess what… it started to come true with a little bit of dedication and hardwork… if I can do it… so can you! 😀

Thank you for reading! 🙂

“Everything in Moderation”

24 Jun

Image “Everything in Moderation!”

If you’re anything like me then you’ll hate this saying… but unfortunately.. it’s true! I seriously live my life to this golden rule now and guess what – it actually does work!Image

I know when you’re trying to be good and lose weight someone saying to you; “yes you can have that cup cake” isn’t really ideal but in effect it’s actually kind of true! I’ve been on my weightloss mission since September 10th 2012 and I can assure you that I have still had my treats. You can’t live your life permanently denying yourself of treats… just like you can’t permanently live on treats. Grilled cheese salad and sandwiches for lunch, take out for tea and loads of chocolate bars and crisps in between for snacks is just a one way road to obesity. But… eating healthy and sensibly 90% of the time and then having the odd earned treat is perfectly natural and healthy. It’s alright losing your weight but you then need to learn how to maintain your weight too. You need to learn what’s healthy and what isn’t without going to extremes of binging then purging. I’ve currently lost 59 lbs (4 stone 3lbs), but I do still have cake and wine… here are a few pics I took at the weekend (yes… I like to document what I eat and drink with photographs… it’s the only way I can keep track of my diet.)

All you need to do is find a good way of tracking your food intake… I do this with pictures, this blog and I have set up a Facebook Page to share my ramblings and recipes… you’ll find my Facebook Page here: https://www.facebook.com/ixxypoco

Some of the best advice I’ve ever been given on this weightloss journey is that the only person who is concerned about your weight is you. What I mean is that it’s you that has to live with yourself. If you’re walking down the street an you’re over weight, then to everyone else on that street you’re just another ‘fatty’ (horrid thought I know… but you know yourself how mean people can be)… they’ll only give you a one second thought/glance and that’s it. Yet to you, you feel as though everyone is staring at you. But really… it’s you who’s staring at yourself… every morning when you get ready… every time you’re washing your hands in the loo’s and catch your reflection in the mirror. You are your own biggest critic.

One thing that I haven’t been prepared for during this journey is some of the negativity I’ve gained from friends. I think I can safely say that some of my friends preferred me as their ‘fat friend’. Now that I’m slimmer I’ve noticed the snide remarks and the reluctance to spend time with me… At the end of the day I’m happier and healthier!

Please don’t think that I’m some kind of fitness freak or gym bunny or that I’ve achieved my weightloss through exercise because I can assure you that my results have been achieved by diet alone. In April 2011 due to an unfortunate turn of events I have been left with major leg trauma. Although things are getting better I’m always going to be left with weakness and nerve damage. So, for the last 2 years I’ve been re-growing and straightening the bone in my right leg.

A bit gruesome I know.

The day after my last surgery which was in march 2012 I looked like this:Image

Now… I look like this:

A bit of a difference don’t you think? Lol. I have honestly achieved this with good old fashioned healthy home cooked food! I can’t blame all of my weight gain on my leg though. Before the whole leg saga I started to gain the weight. This picture was taken before I had my fixator fitted on my leg (I am the one in the navy dress on the left of this picture). Image

I felt so ashamed and embarrassed by how I looked in that picture. I think at that moment in time I was in major denial. I used to say things like “oh I’ve lost a few pounds” but then really I hadn’t. I was kidding myself into believing that my weight wasn’t an issue but it was. My back would ache from just walking… at the time I was only 29! You shouldn’t be having aches and pains at that age!!!Image

The above pictures shows me on my hen party in October 2011 and the picture next to that was taken in February 2013… it just shows you what you can achieve in 9 months. I have to keep using old photographs to compare myself too just to prove to myself that I’ve changed.

All you need is some organisation & determination to change your bad habits. If someone had told me last summer that I’d be at least 4 stones lighter within a year I’d not have believed them. I always used to say “I’ll never be able to lose weight’… “I’ll never be a UK size 12 again”… well I’m not a UK size 12 just yet but I am a UK size 14… so I’m not far off. I still have 14lbs-28lbs yet to lose and I am going to plough on with it. Slowly and steady I will shift this last lot of weight. You can too! If anyone has any questions or anything really just ask. Either contact me via this blog or like my Facebook Page and contact me there 🙂

Thank you so much again for reading and for all of the continued support!
