Finding ‘me’ again.

24 May

Hi folks,

Wow I hadn’t realised just how long it had been since I last wrote a post. I really do not know where the time is going. This year seems to be flying by. I’m just so happy that restrictions are easing & that things seem to be getting back to some kind of normality.

Over the last 8 month I feel like I’ve been on a bit of a journey to finding ‘me’ again. I can officially say that I have now lost 4 stone 8lbs since September 2020. I can’t just blame the lockdowns or the pandemic for my weight gain… I’ve been steadily gaining since having Seth, my oldest. He’s now 5 years old. So for just over 4 year I have been gaining weight. It’s easy to lose yourself a bit I think, to parenthood. I love being a Mammy so much. My whole being is just focussed on my boys. And in doing that… I just forgot about me. Rather than looking after my self the way I should… I allowed myself to fall into bad habits with food.

I had a massive wake up call at the end of August 2020 when my hubster took some photo’s & I just hated what I saw… I just hated that I’d allowed myself to creep up to a size 20 at 17 stone 7lbs. Even at 5ft 7′ tall… I couldn’t carry it off. And I was starting to really experience pain in my lower back & my right leg that I’ve had rebuilt. In that moment – I knew I needed to change. But I also knew that I couldn’t go back to Slimming World. For personal reasons… Slimming World is not a healthy group for me to be around.

After some research I decided that Calorie Deficit was the way forward. I didn’t need to eliminate any food groups – I could literally eat what I wanted in moderation. After trying a few apps to help me along the way to track calories & activity, I found the PERFECT one! Nutracheck It’s so user friendly. It connects to my FitBit so it updates all of my activity levels. The catalogue of food on the app is amazing & its constantly being updated.

I have the app set to lose 1lb per week. I’m aiming for slow steady loses that I can maintain in the long term. I’m currently in a size 14… I feel so much healthier.

I feel so much fitter in general. I can do so much more activity with my boys. I’ve even found a new passion & love for hiking!!! As someone who has had their right leg rebuilt & had intense physio to walk again… I never ever thought I’d be wearing hiking boots. I’m working toward climbing Snowden & then the Three Peaks. I could cry just writing that! I feel like a whole new me!

It’s exciting to be able to say that I have less that 2 stone to go until I hit my goal now. I’m aiming for 11 stone. Ideally I want to be a size 10/12. 11 stone for my height is perfect. I’m currently having between 1500-1600 calories daily. I’m generally only drinking alcohol on a weekend, unless it’s a special occasion etc… Over this weight loss journey I’ve allowed myself daily treats such as chocolate. I’ve also had take out, cake etc… I’m just being mindful in my choices & trying to stick within my calorie allowances. I really do not feel restricted at all.

I’m enjoying cooking so much more these days… everything just looks so bright & colourful & pretty!

I feel like food is delicious & exciting again. It’s not just the same old beige food out of the freezer. Plus I feel like I’m finally being a good a healthy role model for my boys. The boys have so much energy & being able to go for walks every day with them is amazing. Enjoying exercise is something I never thought I’d be able to say.

I use a lot of the Spicentice meal kits. They’re utterly delicious, easy to use & they’re such a great price. If you use the code: IXXYP10 at checkout you can get 10% off. Also, there is no limit on how many times you use my code.

I’ll be blogging more frequently about my journey to a healthier me to keep you all updated on my progress. This isn’t a quick fix for me… this a total life make over.

Thanks so much as always for reading for always being super supportive!

Chilly Days Out

16 Dec

Hi folks,

It might be feeling very chilly & wintry outside… but that doesn’t stop us from enjoying the great outdoors. Being a ‘boy mama’ means I spend a lot of time outside foraging under rocks for creepy crawlies & hunting through woods for Gruffalo’s & Bears.

We spend lots of time walking & exploring on a weekend. Even in the colder months, you’ll find us having a picnic all wrapped up.

We were sent some lovely ION8 Leakproof Water Bottles. Perfect for those days out!

The bottles we have are 350ml. Perfect size for children, but also it means you’re not logging around giant water bottles. These lovely bottles are 100% leak proof. They’d be ideal for packed lunches!

We have the lovely Lady Bug design & the orange.

Both bottles have a frosted kind of texture, making it perfect for grip while on the go. There’s also a great one touch button for opening & there’s also a little switch you can flick that will completely lock the bottle. So you can pop it in your bag with no fear of leaks! Perfect! No one wants a soggy handbag.

Both boys have found them easy to drink from. There’s even a little carry strap too!

The bottles are suitable for both cold & warm drinks.

You can find ION8 Leakproof on social media too!

Give them a follow to keep up to date with new products & promotions!

Thank you so much as always for reading!

Pregnant Life

29 Apr

Hi Folks,

April has been such a busy month. In fact it has been a wee while since my last blog post. But this month just seems to have zoomed by so fast!

We seem to have packed a LOT into just 30 days… Seth went to his first birthday party which was unicorn themed. His little face was amazing – he adored everything about it. The bouncy castle, the pink lighting, dancing on the stage… just everything!

We also had an amazing day out to The Yorkshire Wildlife Park for their Alice in Wonderland event. It was really cold & windy, but we just wrapped up warm. We even managed to have our picnic outside too.

This month has seen some amazingly warm sunny weather too. It was so nice to be able to get out into the garden. We enjoyed it while it lasted. We had homemade picnic platters & played in the ball pool. Sometimes it’s the simple things that make the best memories.

I was also admitted to hospital too. I just couldn’t believe it. Being pregnant whilst having a toddler is such a different experience to the last time I was pregnant. Everything is harder as I’m not my own priority anymore – Seth is. We don’t have family around us where we live, so I can’t just scoot off to Hospital. I need to make sure Seth has someone to look after him. So, my hubster stayed with Seth until my parents made the 2hr drive to us. It was kinda scary being in hospital on my own. I mean I’ve been in hospital on my own before, but the beginning part while you’re sat around on the ward waiting to have tests I’ve always had Graham with me to hold my hand. Don’t worry – baby is totally fine. We’ve named the baby ‘Little T’ until he or she arrives. I’ve got red degeneration of my fibroids. I suffered with this throughout my pregnancy with Seth. Even though I’m in pain – it’s reassuring to know exactly what it is. But I do just feel constantly exhausted at this stage. We got to see Little T for the first time last week. I’m coming up to 14wks… I just cannot believe how fast this pregnancy is going. I felt like I was pregnant with Seth for like a year or something lol.

I also got to meet my consultant this week as I’m being consultant led again being a high risk pregnancy. I was pleased to find out that it was the same consultant who actually delivered Seth. So that is just amazing as I’ll be having a planned c- section again so the same lady will be delivering Little T.

We’ve made the decision to stay Team Green during this pregnancy – we’re not finding out the Baby’s Gender. I’m actually quite excited to have a gorgeous surprise when Little T arrives. I’ve been pushed back one day, so Little T’s due date is 31st October. I’ve also made the decision to have my Fallopian tubes removed during my c-section. Purely because we definitely only want 2 children & because I’m generally quite poorly during pregnancy. We’ve been moving furniture around in our bedroom to make room for the SnüzPod. So that means I got to move my dressing table & make it all pretty in a new location. I do love an organised make up station… I’m so sad lol. I’ve been spending a lot of time on Pinterest looking at nursery decor ideas. We’ve gone for White, Pale Grey & Silver. I can’t wait to start decorating. Then when Little arrives I can buy either pink or blue bunting with his or her name on as a finishing touch. Eeeeeck… it’s just too exciting! We’ve already got the cotbed which is Obaby & from Precious Little Ones.

May is looking to be a VERY busy month too… it’s my birthday in May, it’s the hubsters birthday in May, we have 2 Bank Holidays & we have a holiday coming up too, to Haven. I’ve never been to a Haven site before. I’m super excited – it looks perfect for Seth. We normally holiday in Center Parcs… but wanted to see what Haven was like. We’ve got a Center Parcs holiday come up in August. Then, Christmas week we’ll be going again, but this time we’ll have our new addition with us. I’m so excited! I have some lovely reviews coming up all about the Traditional Toy Box Company & Nuby. I promise I’ll be blogging more this month… my sickness is starting to get better & I just need to get back to my organised routine. Thanks so much as always for reading! Love & Huggles,Hayley xxx

Fit Fab Glammy Mammy

31 Jan

Hi folks,

I cannot believe that we’re already a month into 2018! What is that about? Time is literally zooming by so fast.

This last month we’ve made so many changes. We’ve done so many little DIY type things around the house… not like major things, but stuff that kinda niggles at you. So, we’ve changed the blind in our en-suite bathroom to a pink polka dot one. Way better than the bamboo style we had. We added a new blue blind in the family bathroom, and a blind & new curtains in the guest room… it really looks like a different room. We don’t have a fancy guest room or anything lol… it’s the smallest bedroom, but it accommodates a double bed really well. Since we don’t live anywhere near our family – we always need a comfy guest room. We’ve also emptied the spare room… it’s literally a blank canvas now. I’m hoping that sometime soon that may become a nursery… here’s hoping!

I’ve had a little change around in Seth’s room to make way for this birthday gift! Can you believe my little bear will be turning 2 in March!? He has so many toys & books… so rather than buying him more toys, we’ve decided to get him a bedroom TeePee! I’m so gonna make him a cool little boy fort where he can retreat too. It’s something he’ll be able to play with for years & years… I can’t wait!

We had a pretty bad leak before Christmas… nightmare! The en-suite shower started to leak & the water came running out of the light fittings downstairs. It’s all fixed now & there’s no damage to the ceiling… but there’s water marks… so our next job on the list will be to prime & paint that. Well… when I say ‘our’… I actually mean that the hubster will be doing it & I’ll be making the cups of tea lol.

January 8th marked the start of my ‘back to healthy eating’ plan. 3 weeks in & I’m 1 stone down!!! Thats totally insane isn’t it!? I really would love to lose another 2 stone. I’ve not been doing anything crazy… just literally cut out the bad foods & replaced them with the good healthy ones. I have my diet page over on Facebook where you can see all of my recipes & have a spy at what I eat day to day. It’s no secret that I’d simply love to have another baby. To do that, I need to be the healthiest I can be… so my motivating factors are being super healthy for Seth & the thought of getting pregnant again. I can be a better Mammy when I’m carrying less weight… because of my leg & back, I struggle somedays. Especially when I’m carrying extra weight. I have my eye on that size 12 goal & I’m not going to give up until I reach it.

Seth’s been pretty poorly this last week with a virus & conjunctivitis. Whenever he’s cutting a tooth, he always catches something bless him. It’s just awful when he’s poorly… You feel completely helpless. I’m hoping that he’s now on the mend. Kids… they’re nothing but a worry. Honestly… I just don’t think I knew proper worry until I became a Mammy.

Driving… ugh… where do I start. I don’t know if it’s my age or what, but honestly, learning to drive is super hard. I think it’s even worse coz I simply do not have time to do it because of lack of childcare with having no family around us. So I get 1hour per week & then sometimes I miss a good few weeks due to holidays etc… I’m hoping now I’m kinda on the home stretch… I’ve mastered roundabouts – I think lol. I’ve started my manoeuvres… its just honestly harder than I ever imagined. But, I’m not a quitter… I shall stick at it until I’m test ready & then passed. My instructor really does deserve a medal! lol.

So… what else have I been up too? Well, I’ve been keeping up with my new years resolution of doing more things for me – I’m still keeping to my getting my nails done routine. I actually love it… I feel more like the old me. It’s so easy to fall into the ‘Mammy Trap’ of just becoming super Mummsy. I mean, I wanna be a Mam… but still Hayley… A Fit Fab Glammy Mammy lol. So the next step is to start having nights out again… eeeeck!

What is 2018 going to bring??? Well… we have a seaside caravan holiday booked… 2 Center Parcs Holidays & a Center Parcs Day Trip for Seth’s Birthday. I’m also hoping it’ll bring my driving license lol… and… getting pregnant. I have my positive pants on & nothing is going to shatter that sparkle & determination. Lot’s to look forward too & lot’s to work toward!

Thanks so much for sticking with me folks. Oh, just in case you noticed… my website had a bit of a glitch & went offline apparently… but it should all be back up & running so I’m told. www.hayleythorne.co.uk

Thanks so much for reading!

The Power of Coffee

22 Jun

Hi folks

As I mentioned in my last blog post – I’m working super hard at being healthy. Eating right… drinking plenty of water & trying to fit in daily body magic. But… along with all of these things, I’ve been sampling some coffee. A coffee that improves your mood… improves your energy levels… increases your focus & can even aid with regulating your appetite! So… what is this magical elixir I hear you ask!? Lean Java Bean

Now… you all know that I don’t go in for faddy diets. I don’t like anything that involves meal replacement or dropping to a scarily low calorie diet. I’m all about everything in moderation & losing weight the old fashioned way. I don’t like the idea of weight loss medication either.

Whilst having a catch up with a good friend, she told me about a health drink. A health drink that was coffee! I mean normally we’re bombarded with literature claiming coffee is bad. Lean Java Bean has increased anti-oxidants. Anti-oxidants seems to be some kind of buzz word we hear on health shows & in health magazines… but the top & bottom of it is that they’re fantastic for boosting your immune system, our mood, our memory, skin… etc… so many benefits.

Now… this all sounds great… but does it actually work. I was quite excited at the thought of a magical cup of coffee that’d give me a massive energy boost. I mean, as a Mammy to a 15 month old who juggles work, Mammy-ing & running a house, I can always do with a bit extra energy. You can imagine I was super excited to start my 3 day trial. You literally drink one each morning. Stick to a healthy diet & drink plenty water.

Honestly, I was not expecting to feel any different. But, after my first cup I seriously felt a little kick. I felt more awake & alert. I had more energy & I actually didn’t feel hungry between meals. And that was after day one!!!

The coffee itself tastes nice. I often find with a health drink, they can taste flavourless & quite frankly a little disgusting. So what a pleasure it is to drink a nice cup of coffee.

Now… let’s get to the weightloss aspect. I didn’t expect any weight loss with this coffee. And like I’ve already said I don’t do miracle weightloss aids. But… along with a healthy diet I lost 5lbs during my trial of this coffee. That’s right… 3 days… 3 cups of coffee… 5 whole lbs!!! I was speechless.

I’m sure some folk will say it’s a placebo effect etc… but as someone who has gone through a lengthy weightloss journey, this deffinitely feels to me like an extra little boost. Well, put it this way – I’m so convinced that it works that I’ve bought myself a whole box.

I’m actually so impressed. If you’re intrigued & would like more info, then head on over to the Nulife Facebook Page.

I can’t wait to see more results!

Thanks so much for reading & I hope you’ve found my review useful.

Getting Things Done

3 May

Hi folks

Wowzers… am I happy to see the beginning of May. Last month was just literally filled with so much stress. We’ve still so many box’s to unpack & flat pack to build. Well who am I trying to kid…? We all know I don’t build flat pack lol.

So… May! May is one of my most favourite month’s. Its seriously up there with December. Generally… the weather is quite good… Spring is in the air & there’s cherry blossoms blooming all over… and… it’s MY birthday month! Oh & the hubsters too lol. May is also shaping up to be a very busy month too! We’ve got two birthday’s coming up… a trip to London… a Wedding… & then a little vacation at the end of the month. As well as sorting the house out. To be honest though… we’ve pretty much sorted the main rooms. But we need to desperately sort out the office & the make up storage situation in our bedroom. We’ve also some shelves to get on the wall in Seth’s room to make him a beautiful big book wall as a little feature for him, just a bigger version of the one he had in his old little bedroom. He’s been having so much fun making a mess in his new big bedroom. He’s taken to the new house so well… it’s like he’s just not bothered. He’s gone from sleeping 10hrs through the night to almost 14hrs… loves his sleep that kid.

The kitchen is pretty much sorted, but I really want to convert the utility room into a pantry like we had at the old house. But that’s not priority really I suppose. The hubster is absolutely desperate to get out into our new garden to get that all tidied up. Nothing major, but the garden needs a little TLC… mainly just the grass being cut etc… & some wonky flags sorted. We’ve got some decking which is going to be our garden project… I’ve also told the hubster I want him to build me a garden bar out of wooden palettes lol… so watch this space for that!

I actually really want to do a tour of the house on Youtube. I need to back to Youtubing too. As well as needing to update my website. I seem to be developing a to do list the length of my arm! Or in fact… make that the length of both my arms out together!

In June, we’re getting a skip to basically declutter in the shed we’ve kind of inherited with the house. We made a discovery of lots of broken toys & a rundown rabbit hutch. So… skip it along with any of our stuff we can part ways with. I’m like the anti-hoarder. If it’s not been used in the last 12 month & it’ll sell? I sell it. If it’s junk? I skip it. I hate clutter. Plus… clutter makes it so much more time consuming when dusting & cleaning.

The front garden is little & cute & Auntie Nicky got stuck into that this weekend just gone. I have no idea when it comes to gardening… so I just thought we had an array of full big bush type thingy’s… apparently not. Some were killing other bushes & were badly overgrown! Who knew? So… she got stuck right in there & literally in a flick of a garden trowel – she’d totally spruced it all up. It looks like a new little front garden. Thanks Aunty Nicky!

I’m still ploughing on with my driving lessons. I think I’ve had 19 lessons now. For those of you who are familiar with Doncaster… I’ve done all three big roundabouts. York Road Roundabout & Hub Roundabout have been fairly easy to master as they’re big… but they’re broken down with plenty traffic lights. However… the Racecourse Roundabout is a little more scary. But… I’ve done it now quite a few times. So I guess now it’s just all about building confidence. Luckily for me – I have a fab instructor. I need to start swatting up for my theory test big time… I haven’t even booked that yet!

So… going back to the house. It’s amazing to have a fully equipped kitchen again. Before we moved I had things packed & I was trying to use up all of the food I had in stock & we’d also sold a few appliances. So to have a proper kitchen again is just fab. I’ve been in the kitchen making lots of lovely, healthy, home cooked food. We’ve had loads of beautiful, fresh deliveries from Bearefaced Groceries too. I always feel so much better when I’m eating better & drinking plenty water & green tea. Hey… I even managed to fit into one of my favourite size 12 sweatshirts last week too!!!

Life seems to be returning to some kind of normality thank God. Seriously… moving… it’s the pits! I’m never ever moving house ever again! Packing & unpacking… just yuck! This weekend shall be filled with fun… rather than house stuff. It’s mine & the hubsters birthday weekend so it’s all about fun & our little family. I guess what we’ll be doing will mostly depend upon the weather. I’m hoping ti’ll be nice so we can have a little picnic at The Yorkshire Wildlife Park. I’ve promised Seth that he can go visit the ‘real’ Lion Guard & the ‘big’ Sophies. For anyone who’s life isn’t consumed with Kids TV & Kids teething toys… that’s just Lions & Giraffes lol. I’m also hoping that at some point over the weekend I’ll be taken out for a meal too 🙂

I’ve got some reviews coming up on Skincare... Scented Wax MeltsEarly Learning Centre… & Music Bugs!

Well… I hope I’ve not bored you all far too much with my little catch up 🙂 Thanks as always for reading!

Friday Fun and Shopping Saturday

10 Jan

Hi folks ✨

I hope you all had a great Friday? I did! My Friday began super early as I’m just not sleeping well at all… I have a lot of sciatic pain in my thighs & major hip pain. So I’m up very early everyday. My Friday began with an epic chat on the phone with my bezzie Kirsty… All we do is laugh. After our rather loooong phonecall, Mr Asda delivery man called with some shopping I’d ordered specially for Friday evening. I’d invited two of our bezzies over, Mike & Rach, Rach is coeliac so I needed some gluten free ingredients. On the menu:

  • Low fat Spag Bol. To make the sauce add: lean steak mince, pasatta, diced onion, sliced peppers, garlic & mixed herbs to the Crock Pot to cook on low all day. I’ll serve with Gluten free spaghetti.
  • Gluten free garlic bread. I made the bases myself to ensure they’re totally gluten free & I’ll use low fat mozzarella.
  • Dessert is low fat Mango Easiyo topped with fresh strawberries & a little chocolate.

So… after Mr Asda delivered food… Mr Mothercare arrived with Baby T’s SnuzPod & fitted sheets. I just cannot wait for the hubster to build it this weekend. I’m hoping some more bits will arrive this coming Monday. The box was so heavy that the delivery guy carried it through to our dinning room for me. How nice is that!? 💙

After the excitement of the SnuzPod arriving my friend Julie popped in with a gorgeous book she’d ordered for Baby T. ‘Peace at Last’ was a big favourite in their house… so she wanted Baby T to have it. It’s such a cute little story. I’ve already read it to Baby T & Coco. It’s now in his little nursery.

A lot of the day was spent doing a spot of colouring in my Harry Potter Colouring Book. I just find it so therapeutic.

After my spot of colouring in… It was time to crack on with making my gluten free garlic breads… Yikes! Now… I’m waaaaaay better at making pastry than cake… So I was kinda hoping that gluten free dough would be similar to pastry lol. It turns out that it is! My über cold hands must’ve worked their magic once again as our guests, plus Graham, loved them! I have to say too – that I can sometimes feel very bloated from eating certain breads, but this bread didn’t bloat me one little bit! I think they’re going to become a firm favourite of ours.

Friday evening was just so much fun… Very chilled out, but spent with good company. When you’re 28wks pregnant & utterly shattered all of the time… This type of evening is most definitely the new ‘going out’. ✨ And can I just say… How cute do my healthy desserts look? I used my gorgeous 99p bargain glasses from Home Bargains & filled them with low fat fruity Easiyo. Seriously… If you have never tried Easiyo then you really must. Just click the embedded link to be taken to their website for a little looksie where you’ll find an amazing sale right now! It’s so easy to make. I love my Easiyo maker, it’s one of my most used kitchen gadgets. You can also buy the Easiyo sachets from places such as The Range, Ocado & Lakeland.
Saturday became another shopping Saturday lol. I’ve decided that while I’m still able to waddle around the shops – I may as well… As I’m sure that weekend is coming come when I can waddle no more. Only until after Baby T arrives though of course 💙 Along with purchasing ridiculously glam products such as; Breast Pads & Nipple Cream…. We did buy Baby T some cute little red ‘Converse’ style shoes for his vacation to Center Parcs this Christmas & two little hats for when he’s born. Both were from Boots Mini Club. Again – amazing sale on right now.
After our spot of retail therapy purchasing my essential hospital bag bits, we popped to the Mallard in the Frenchgate for some lunch & a much needed pint of lemonade! I have to say that I really like the Mallard. It’s part of the Hungry Horse chain & the staff are so friendly! It’s lovely food & very reasonable prices. After our food we headed home. Eeeck… When we got home my Buggy Buddy Clip had arrived! I decided I really needed one for my handbag. They come in a range of colours, but I thought the black would match my travel system better.  Again… Head over to Mothercare to purchase one for yourself.
I can’t wait for my travel system to arrive… You should expect lots of pictures with a full on in depth review 💙

The hubster built our SnüzPod on Saturday evening. I’m literally in love with it 💙 He said the instructions were easy to follow – unlike some flat pack items you buy. It’s so well made & very sturdy. It’s just utterly gorgeous ✨
I also bought he SnüzPod branded fitted sheets & blanket. Purely as I didn’t know how other fitted crib sheets would fit it & I didn’t want the sheets to wrinkle under Baby T… We all know how a wrinkled sheet can feel when you’re trying to get a goodnights sleep. You may think the SnüzPod is a little pricey as its more expensive than most Moses baskets… But you can use this until around 6 month, it allows to safely sleep next to your baby, with the height adjustments you can eliminate bending if like me you’re going to be recovering from a C-Section, &… If you head over to the Mothercare website you’ll find it on offer for £179.95 with free delivery AND that includes the mattress too! Most places I had initially looked at were charging anywhere from £50+ for the mattress.

After the excitement of getting the Snüz built, we literally vegged in front of the TV glued to Ninja Warrior & Take Me Out lol. We did have a lovely healthy Lamb Madras for tea though… Another Crock Pot Sensation!

  • Frozen Diced Lamb
  • 1 Tin Chopped Tomatoes
  • Frozen Diced Onion
  • Frozen Sliced Peppers
  • Frozen Spinach
  • 1 Tsp Garlic Granules
  • 1 Tsp Madras Powder

Cook on low all day – you may need to thicken with some tomato purée before serving. I served alongside basmati rice… Nom!

That in a nutshell… Or a blog post…. Was Fun Friday & Shopping Saturday.  And guess what…? I think today is going to be Shopping Sunday! We’re off to Scunthorpe to tackle Dunelm, Marks & Sparks & Boots. So I’ll let you all know what utter bargain-ness gems I find! ✨

Thanks for reading… I really do appreciate it!!! And if you’d like me to review any products for you – you can contact me at ixxypoco@gmail.com  ✨

Skip the Diet… Just Eat Healthy

5 Jan

Hi folks ✨

If you returned to work yesterday for the first time after the Christmas vacation – I hope it wasn’t too painful. It feels so bizarre being off work for me. I’m technically not on my maternity leave yet as I’m still using up all of my built up annual leave. It’s so much better for me being off work as I have so many medical appointments & because I’m so up & down with pregnancy sickness & with pain from the fibroids – this way I don’t feel the pressure of letting colleagues down.

Yesterday seemed like such a long day. I started the day with loads of blood tests which required a lot of waiting around until lunchtime. Both arms were so sore from the amount of blood they needed to take – ouchie! I’m such a big wimp when it comes to having blood taken. The nurse I met yesterday is also the breast feeding supporter. That was utterly fantastic for me, as I really want to breast feed & I had so many questions. I felt so much more confident after speaking with her… She was literally a fountain of knowledge & gave me lots of literature to peruse. I can also make a one to one appointment with her at a later date – which I will most definitely be doing. While talking with her I was able to get all of my ‘weight’ fears off of my chest. As you all know in the last 3 yeas I’ve managed to lose 6 stone in weight. It’s been a constant fear of mine about gaining weight during my pregnancy. Well, she really put my mind at ease with regard to weight gain. I’ve gained 11lbs so far & I’m 28 weeks pregnant. We talked through the reasons behind pregnancy weight gain, the gains you make in order to breast feed & then the fat that’s used to breast feed. Call me dumb… But I never actually realised that you burn an added 500 calories during breast feeding.

We briefly discussed nutrition too… Having lost weight on my own I’m very confident with food now & things I make. I feel so much more confident knowing that once our gorgeous boy is here I can eat healthily… feed him… & get back to my goal weight 💙 I’m so not into ‘diets’. Honestly… I cannot go onto Facebook or Twitter without being bombarded with offers of weightloss capsules… diet shakes… juices & borderline starvation. I’m not knocking any of these diets if they work for you… but for me  I need to eat actual food 3 times a day, plus snacks. I like a nutritious hearty meal & as the nurse pointed out – new breast feeding mammies need lots of healthy food & plenty water. Energy & hydration is key. I was told by my midwife months ago that the only form of healthy eating/weightloss that they endorse is a Slimming World style of eating. Slimming Wold is the style of eating that I’ve been sticking too for the last 3 years. I never joined the group, but I took their syn free & extra easy way of preparing & consuming food. It’s all about the good fats, less salt, less sugar. It really works for me.

A classic example of the kind of things I cook is what we had for tea last night: Sausage Casserole.

It’s so simple to make… especially if you have a Crock Pot/Slow Cooker. I served the casserole along side peas, sweetcorn & mash with added mustard seeds. I didn’t use any sauces as they tend to have hidden salts, sugars & oils. To make the actual casserole:

  • Linda McCartney Red Onion & Rosemary Sausages (they are super low in fat)
  • 1 reduced salt beef Oxo cube
  • 1 tin of chopped tomatoes
  • Frozen casserole veg (I buy from either Asda or Waitrose)

Literally throw all of the ingredients in your Crock Pot – I pop the veg & sausages in frozen – it’s so quick & easy. So if you’re in a rush on a morning – this is the recipe for you. Set on low, then cook all day. You could serve with extra veg, boiled potatoes or chips baked in frylight.

Tonight for tea we’ll be having Chilli… so I shall post that recipe in my next update.

I really am working hard to get my website up & live… I’m going to feature my recipes & my product reviews… so please keep your eyes peeled for that. If you’re wanting more recipes along with pics of how the recipe will turn out… you can find my diet page here. You can always find me on Twitter & Instagram too.

So… back to yesterday… Since it was such a pants morning of ouchie tests I decided a little retail therapy was in order & since my new fave thing is treating my little boy… that’s what I did 💙 I popped to Boots & bought this gorgeous little Very Hungry Caterpillar all in one with hat… I just love it. Even better at 50% off. Seriously they have so many reductions right now.

Once home I ordered him a lounger from the Boots website. He’s going to have a cot bed in his nursery & a Snuzpod for a nighttime in our room… but for through the day downstairs I was going to get a crib or a Moses basket. But I spied this lounger & read the reviews, watched youtube videos & I was totally sold. It’s comfy & fun. So I’m hoping it shall arrive this week. I just want everything as cozy as can be for his arrival 💙

Last night was spent unwinding in front of ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ with a cup of decaf tea in hand & my new Harry Potter colouring book… it’s so relaxing.

Everything looks so super tidy with all the Christmas decks down.

Before I go I just wanted to remind you all of Coco’s special offer with Top Collar homemade & healthy doggy treats. Simply follow this highlighted link & enter code: COCO to receive a completely free box of goodies! The box is personalised so it’d make a lovely gift for a family pet or friends pet.

Righteo folks… I’m gonna leave this post here as I have another day ahead of me at the hospital in the shape of a scan, consultant appointment, blood results & anti D injection.

Thanks again for reading ✨

Time for Reflection and Time to Achieve

31 Dec

Hi folks ✨

I just wanted to take this opportunity to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU to each & every one of you for your continued support. In Sept 2012 I started my weightloss journey as a UK size 24. I wanted to lead a healthier lifestyle in the hopes of gaining my confidence back & becoming healthy enough to conceive. I got down to a UK size 12 last year & managed to maintain with the support of my family, friends & you lot!!! In July of this year we found out it’d finally happened… We are going to be PARENTS!!! 💙 It’s been an up & down journey with lots of complications, but I’m now at 27wks & a UK size 14/16. So 2016 will see the birth of our miracle boy & me getting back to my target size of a size 12. I know I can do it with everyone’s support. Once again… Thank you! This blog has helped me to overcome my weight issues & you’ve all inspired me to keep going. So… My resolutions for this year are:

  • To be the best Mammy I can be
  • To continue blogging… This blog is almost 6 years old
  • To continue with my healthier lifestyle
  • Be as successful as I can be & build our business
  • Be more assertive & strong

It’s so overwhelming to know that you’re reading this blog in 64 different countries. This blog began in 2010 as a Wedding blog to help me document our wedding plans… but with everything life has thrown my way since then, it gradually transformed into my lifestyle blog. It’s just nice to know that you’re reading… enjoying… & supporting me.

This morning I received more goodies to review!!! I have been sent the most beautiful travel toiletry set for my hospital bag when I go in to have my baby, from Gilchrist & Soames. Talk about luxury… the bag itself came in a lovely dust bag… I simply love it!!! The set included: Shampoo, Conditioner, Shower Gel, Bath Salts, Face Mist, Lip Balm, Body Soap, Face Soap & a Loofah. It’s gorgeous & looks right at home in my hospital bag. You can get free UK delivery with code: FS2015. I also received an Eyeko Skinny Liquid Liner. I wear a lot of eye make up on a daily basis & I have to say that Eyeko is my favourite liquid liner brand. If you’re not very good at winged liner… then this is the liner for you! It’s so easy to use… Much easier than a separate wand & pot. The Eyeko Liner is just like a felt pen really & it also holds it shape. It stays put all day too… I always get compliments on my eye liner. Right now you can save 25% on all Eyeko purchases quoting code: NYE25

Talking of discount codes… Top Collar are doing an amazing deal right now where you can try their home baked doggy treats for FREE!!! They use gluten free flour… all fresh ingredients & are great on sensitive tummies! You even get them delivered to your door in a personalised box for your pooch! If you fancy giving them a go simply follow this link: http://www.topcollar.co.uk/#!book-delivery/yqpgz then add code: COCO. My Coco is a very fussy little furbaby & she absolutely adores these biscuits. I’d seriously recommend giving them a go.

So… what are our plans for tonight? Well, we shall be having a lovely snuggly night in. Just me, the hubster & Coco. I have party snacks & yummy nibbles… I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else ❤️ Tomorrow I’m going to be cooking a Christmas Dinner & then at teatime we’ll be heading round to our neighbours for snacks. Nice chilled celebrations for us this year ✨ I’ve put make up on… but I’ll be seeing the New Year in, in my pyjama’s. I had to take this pic to show just how long & thick my hair has become… It’s growing so fast. It must be the pregnancy hormones.

Oooooo… well the postie has just dropped the latest issue of Elle & Elle Decoration through the door… so I think I’m going to go & give those a read!

Enjoy your evening whatever you get up too, thanks so much for reading & continuing to do so &…

 Love & Huggles,

Hayley 😘 xxx

Daddies are Amazing… Mammies too!

26 Sep

Hi Folks ✨

I hope you’re all having a lovely weekend. I’m curled up on my cuddler snuggling Coco watching TV. Makes me sad since it’s so sunny outside ☀️ But… At least I’m ill for a good reason. As you’ve probably guessed – I’m still being sick… A lot. I was up all night again being sick. Although… I’ve been majorly cheered up this morning with some gifts.

My lovely neighbour Maureen bought me some lovely roses as a little ‘Get Well’ gift. She’s so thoughtful. We’re so lucky to have such lovely neighbours. We lived in an apartment for 7 years, but our neighbours were rude & just didn’t want to know. It’s so nice now to live in a lovely village… In a lovely big home with Fantastical neighbours. This morning we also received this gorgeous handmade gift from a family friend. The picture doesn’t do it justice at all & it’s a lot bigger than it looks. We’re having our first scan next week & I simply cannot wait to put the pic in this beautiful frame 💕

I have to say that while I’ve been off work poorly – I’ve so appreciated living in a house with a garden. With being sick all the time – I have a constant bad headache. But it’s been so nice being able to wander into the back garden for some fresh air. Had we have still lived in the apartment, I would’ve felt so cooped up. You begin to appreciate the small things when you’re not well.  I’m just hoping that this extreme sickness passes soon. I’m at hospital next week & the week after… So… Fingers crossed it does pass.

Like the title suggests… I wanna discuss Mammies & Daddies ❤️ I’m 33 years old & I still need my parents. They’re simply amazing human beings. Myself & my hubster live in Yorkshire with no family close by. So we’re very independent & rely on one another whole heartedly. Which I think – makes us stronger ❤️ But… If I need my Mam & Dad… They’re literally here in a heartbeat. I speak to my Mam almost everyday. Whether it be a quick 5min chat just to ‘check in’ or an hour long call of giggles & gossip. My Dad isn’t a big talker on the phone…. He says I talk too much & his arm aches holding the phone lol. But we send the funniest texts back & forth. Since I’ve been suffering with the dreaded morning sickness…. He took it upon himself to come down a few week back to decorate our downstairs loo or ‘Netty’ as we’d say from the Northeast lol. Our downstairs loo is what used to be the Coal House. Our house is an old 1920’s house with very high ceilings, 3 bedrooms, large lounge, dinning room, kitchen & seprate pantry. But the little loo is just off the back porch & was a bit of a ‘non’ space. It was cold… Dingy & lacked any attention. When we moved in there was literally the oldest toilet in there!!! It was seriously like something from Beamish Museum. So… We had a new toilet fitted. On the floor was really old tiles & they just weren’t nice. So…. My Daddy carpeted the loo & the porch…. He painted the loo & ceiling & we’ve finished it off with nautical bits & bobs lol. It’s a little tacky… But it’s clean… Tidy & spider free! And as you all know I love a bit tackiness! Plus… My Dad said I now have somewhere nice to spew downstairs lol. We also painted the back porch pink to match the kitchen. It’s looking so much nicer.

You can tell by the brick & the wooden door – just how old the house is. But I love old houses. I find them so much more chacteristic & spacious. I really do love our home.

My Mam has been amazing while I’ve been so poorly. She’s like a fountain of knowledge & she’s literally my Bezzie. My husband is doing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks next weekend in aid of Myeloma Cancer & since I was gonna be home alone – my Mammy & Daddy are coming down to stay with me & look after me. I’ll be expecting gifts & homecooked food ☺️ Plus…. My Dad is going to paint the step in my porch & a few other little jobs – he’s a good’un ❤️ If anyone would like to sponsor Graham on his hike – please do so here.

Something beneficial I’ve done whilst I’ve been off work – is switching utility providers! I’ve always been meaning to look on U Switch for the best deals but it’s always something I never have time to do. Plus I always thought it’d be a hassle. We used to get our gas & electric supplied from British Gas. I know we have a big ‘older’ house, but we were paying £160 per month for both utilities. I always thought that was super expensive. So… I went on to U Switch. We’ve found a new supplier that has reduced our payment buy more than £40 a month & we’re now due a refund of almost £400 from British Gas… Bearing in mind that we’ve only been customers with British Gas since March of this year! It really does pay to shop around. The switch over was easy as U Switch did it all.

For those of you asking… Here’s an update on my nails.

They are slowly healing & the infection has almost gone. Seriously – NEVER go to those cheap nail bars where they use the electrical files.

Unfortunately my little Coco is poorly too

She’s been going to the Vets daily to treat a nasty abscess. She’s currently on a course of antibiotics – so hopefully that’ll do the trick.

Well… That’s all my news for now. No doubt I’ll be blogging after my scan appointment to give you all an update on how Poppy is doing.

Thanks all so much for reading & a massive hello to my new readers in South Korea! ❤️

Love & Huggles,

Hayley xxx
