Parenting Win

19 Nov

Hi folks,

The last 13 month since seems to have flown by & Ted just seems to be hitting all of those first milestone so quickly. I sometimes wish I could just slow down time. Ted is very much a toddler now. He’s no longer my 8lb 4oz newborn baby. He started walking at 10month which still just totally blows me away, Seth walked at just turned 11month old & I thought that was super early.

When Seth made the transition from Bottle to Cup for his water… I remember it taking a little while for him to get used to it. However, with Ted, he has taken to it so well. So much so, that I didn’t even actually introduce him to a cup. He literally just picked up Seth’s 360 Cup one day & started to drink from it lol. So… after hearing this, the lovely folk at Nuby HQ sent Ted his very own 360 cups.

Ted started with the lovely Nuby Wonder Mini 360 Cup. These cups are fab, as they have the little handles on them, so they’re easy for little fingers to be able to grab hold of. I really didn’t have to try with this cup, in introducing it to Ted. He literally just picked it straight up & began using it. He grasped the ‘sucking’ technique so easily.

The 360 cups are super easy to clean too, as every single part comes apart for cleaning. They also come with a lid too, so they’re great for popping in your bag for on the go. You can also buy the replacement inner valve too.

The natural next step from this cup, is to move onto the maxi 360 cup with no handles.

This has been a piece of cake for Ted. He loves his ‘big boy’ cup. I think he feels more like his big brother when he’s using it. He has taken to it so well. These cups are suitable from 6 month. We have bypassed the traditional sippy cups really with Ted, & I think it’s better. This way, he is learning how to drink from more of a proper cup.

Another lovely product we’ve been using is the 3D Silicone Bib.

These bibs are fab! Well let’s face it… anything that cuts down on laundry is a lifesaver in my eyes. These bibs are so durable. And they wipe down so easily… & did I mention that they’re dishwasher safe too!!! The bib has a ‘catch all’ feature which catches all of those pesky flyaway foodie bits. And, while on the go, it easily rolls up to go back into your bag.

The silicone is soft & flexible with an adjustable fastening on the back for around the neck, making this a comfy bib for your little one to wear at mealtimes. It’s not stiff or ‘scratchy’ at all.

Nuby make some gorgeous bath time toys. Seth & Ted have both been having fun playing with the Astronaut Foam Mirror Set. It’s a cute toy as it clings & sticks to the side of the bath & on the tiles. And with the lovely mirror feature, they can see themselves, which Ted always thinks is great fun. Ted has chomped on this bath toy lots & it’s still in perfect condition. Durability is a must in our house lol.

With a Nuby product, you always know that you’re going to get good value for money & good quality products. Perfect for those little stocking fillers!

Thank you as always for reading & I hope you’ve found this review useful!

“Play is our brain’s favourite way of learning” – Diane Ackerman

18 Nov

Hi folks,

Well, we’re now into my most favourite time of the year… CHRISTMAS!!!! Yes… it’s only November, but I don’t care! I’m in full on Christmas count down mode! I’ve put my tree up! I just literally couldn’t help myself!

So… since I’m throwing myself into all things Christmassy… I have a lovely little gift guide blog post for you. The boys have been playing with & reviewing some lovely toys from Hape.

As most of you know… Hape are one of our most favourite toy brands. You just cannot go wrong with good quality, vibrant, wooden toys. I’m such a big believer in learning through play. Apart from when Seth is at Pre-School… we play all day long.

Where to start? Lets start with the lovely Hape Number Peg Puzzle. Seth loves this puzzle. The pegs are easy to get a hold of & the pieces are lovely & vibrant. This is great for number recognition. Seth is doing so well with his numbers… but does get confused with his number 6 & number 9 at times. So playing with this puzzle has helped immensely.

This puzzle is just so well made & is a lovely size. This is recommended for 3yrs & over, so I’ve been careful to keep it out of Teds reach. He’s in that phase of shoving everything in his mouth to bite.

Ted utterly adores his  Pepe & Friends Push & Go Cat.

It has a clever internal mechanism that allows the toy to roll forward when the back is pushed down and released. So he’s had fun pressing it & watching it scoot across the wooden floor in the dining room. Ted just loves anything with wheels. He loves crawling around the floor pushing it around. It’s a lovely sturdy toy this one. If it can withstand some rough play & being thrown around by Ted.. then it can withstand anything lol.

Baby Einstein Colour Mixer. Both boys have LOVED playing with this toy. It’s such a gorgeous clever little toy this one. This lovely toy identifies colours and lights up as you experiment with different colour combinations with the beads. It flashes in a rainbow light show & plays music. You can also switch between music & spoken words which are in both English & French. It’s great as it introduces little ones to colours & helps to encourage motor skill development.

The pictures really do not do this toy justice. It is absolutely stunning when you see it. In the box, it doesn’t look like much… but it really is a lovely toy. So many fun elements to it. It has kept both boys quiet. Ad again, it’s very sturdy & well made. So, perfect for little ones.

So, if you’re looking for some gifts & stocking fillers for the little ones – look no further. I’m always blown away with the quality & design of Hape.

Thank you so much for reading & hope you’ve fun this review useful!

Wobble, Wiggle and Grow

9 Sep

Hi folks,

Seth went back to pre-school last week. He was so excited. To be honest… I think he likes the routine of school Monday – Friday. Over the Summer break he has asked a lot for School. It’s so quiet in the house without him now he’s back. But looking at the positives – it gives me some one & one time with Ted.

Ted is 10 month old now… I just cannot believe that he’s going to be a year old next month. That time has flown. I know I always say it – but the time does just fly by. When people said to me that time flies once you have children… I don’t think I really believed them.

Ted has been having so much fun with his new toy from Hape & Baby Einstein. It’s no secret that Hape are one of our most favourite toy brands. We all just adore wooden toys. Ted’s new toy is Balancing Cal. Cal comes in 5 pieces & is a mix of wood & plastic. Some of the pieces make sounds too when you shake them. Fun & musical. The aim of the game is to stack Cal as tall as you can make him, without him falling down. This toy is great for encouraging & developing motor skills.

Each piece has been beautifully crafted & is the perfect size of little hands. Ted has had fun shaking them to make noise, clacking them together & has enjoyed giving them a good old bite lol. Each piece is lovely & smooth with no sharp edges & the materials feel very durable. The colours are stunning too. So vibrant.

Each piece has a different texture to feel too. The balls are perfectly weighted to be able to stack in a wiggly, wobbly way. Ted loves it when they all fall over. It’s really just a lovely little toy that does so much… makes music, rolls, stacks etc…

I know some folk think it’s a little too soon to be talking about it… however… Christmas is only around the corner! Balancing Cal would make a fantastic gift.

I’ve added some links for further reading & info on the product.

I hope you’ve found this post useful!

Thanks as always for reading,

Essentials to Make Life Simple

12 Aug

Hi folks,

I can’t believe we’re almost half way through August & the ‘Back to School’ countdown has begun! Seth is so super excited to get back to PreSchool… he asks every day if his teachers are back from their holidays yet bless him lol.

So… along with the usual new uniform & school shoes… he has his trusty favourite backpack!

Seth simply adores his Trendz Robot Backpack from Nuby. It’s the perfect size for our little people. It also has a detachable rein on it too. There’s also side pockets either side, the perfect size for a matching drinks bottle.

The new stainless steel Robo Cups are perfect for School… they keep drinks cool for up to 10hrs! They’re also very durable… Seth has dropped his on concrete several times & it’s left no marks or dints!

Ted is a BIG fan of the Stainless Steel Food jar… perfect for dinners on the go! The contents will stay warm for 5 hours & cool for 7 hrs! Perfect for when you’ve arranged those all important playdates!!!

And where would we be without those all important Catch All Wipeable Bibs!?

In fact… they’re almost good enough to eat lol.

Weaning can be such a tedious time. I have been a lot more relaxed about weaning this time around. When I was weaning Seth I was super stressed all of the time about finger foods. With Ted, everything has just felt more relaxed & laid back. Everything is so much easier though when you have good quality products thats you can trust!

Here’s a little list of some of our new found favourite products:

This has made independent drinking so easy for Ted. He has taken to this cup so well. It’s great for little sips of water during meal times. I think I may start introducing a 360 cup.

I love these little bowls. They’re perfect for food storage too when you’ve been making baby food. Also, for feeding when you’re out & about, it’s great being able to pop the lid on to avoid any food spillages in your bag.

This is great for finger foods. It grips fantastically to smooth surfaces, such as your highchair table/tray.

This is such a cute little bowl. The lovely soft texture feel is great for little hands. All of the edges are smooth etc… & I just love that you can stick it down too. It’s that first step toward self feeding.

These lovely spoons have been developed to help with self feeding. The shape & design is perfect for little chubby hands to grip. They also have choke protection guards to reduce gagging and choking.

Such a perfect first cutlery set. Ted hasn’t gotten round to using these ones yet, but once he’s hit the 12 month mile stone… I’m sure he’ll be using them.

I used these fantastic lolly makers with Seth. So you can be assured that they’re long lasting. Ted adores his homemade fruity ice lollies. They’re perfect for sore teething gums. The clever design catches any stray drips & the handle itself is perfect for little hands to grip. They come with a lovely little freezer tray too.

If you head over to the Nuby Website, you can get free delivery when you spend £15 or more & there’s also some Back To School bargains.

We simply adore all of our Nuby products. I love anything that will make day to day life that little bit easier!

We’ve not got long left now of the Summer Holidays… so let’s hope that this weather of ours picks up!

Thanks so much as always for reading!!!

“You Can Find Magic Wherever You Look. Sit Back and Relax, All You Need Is a Book”. Dr Seuss

25 Apr

Hi folks,

I love the Dr Seuss quote I’ve started this post with. It’s no secret that I’m a big Dr Seuss fan & that I think reading is a very important part of growing up. As a child I was always read to at bedtime & I was always encouraged to read. I was very lucky in that I had a selection of books to choose from & read.

From the moment I first found out I was pregnant with Seth, I began to buy him books… the first thing I bought him was a book. I was the same with Ted. It’s so important that my boys are surrounded by books… stories… literature.

Both boys have reading corners in their bedrooms, but they also have a gorgeous little corner now in their play area. Well, Ted is only 6 month… so it’s ready for him when he’s old enough to use it. For now he’ll have to put up with me reading to him.

The boys little reading corner is super cute… complete with a new comfy arm chair, perfect for little bottoms. Seth adores this chair… he’s very protective of it. He’s been sitting in it saying ‘Mammy… I love my chair”.

This lovely little chair is the loose cover chair from Just4Kidz.  It is quite literally the cutest thing. This chair has been handmade right here in the UK. It comprises of a solid wooden frame, lovely comfy foam cushions & then covered in stunning fabric that is exclusive to Just4Kidz… so you will not find that print anywhere else. There are lots of lovely prints to choose from. Seth decided he liked the farmyard design best. Everything is animal & farm based for Seth at the moment. Every other minute he’s singing ‘Old MacDonald Farm’. We’ve actually been sat looking at the fabric & making up stories about the animals printed on his chair. Seth just adores to make up stories. So even the fabric has been spiking his little imagination.

The chair is super sturdy. Being so well made, means it is quite literally built to last, and… the cover can easily be removed to hand wash too! I mean how amazing is that!? Perfect for grubby, sticky finger marks. The chair is perfect for pre-school children all the way up to primary school age. So this chair is a lovely little companion for little ones to grow up with. Ted is only 6 month… but he’s already been trying to stake a claim on it.

This chair can be used for all sorts… reading corner… arm chair for watching TV with family… etc… Actually Seth has been sat in it doing puzzles & drawing. It really is his new fave spot. I think he loves it knowing that it’s ‘his’ chair. His own little comfy corner. Well… until Ted decides to nab it lol.

This lovely little chair was the first piece of children’s furniture that Just4Kidz designed & sold. Over the years they have sold tens of thousands. The photo’s really don’t do it justice… it’s chunky, comfy & so well made. For me though… one of the biggest selling points is that you can remove the fabric to hand wash. We all know what it’s like trying to keep things clean with little ones running around. With every will in the world… it’s pretty impossible to keep those chubby little hands grime free for any length of time. If for any reason you damaged your fabric on the chair over the years… you can buy replacement covers. It really is a chair for life.

Everyone who has been over, has commented on how lovely it is. It’d be the perfect piece of furniture for any play room or bedroom. Or, if you have more than one child, you could always go for the loose cover sofa. I love the little sofa. So perfect for siblings to cosy up on.

Just4Kidz make & sell a gorgeous selection of children furniture. If you head over to their website, you can browse their products. Another of my fave items is their fabulous bed in a bag. The perfect sleepover companion. This would be ideal for children sleeping over at their grandparents house, or at a friends sleepover etc… It’s also an extra bed for if you have an extra little one staying over. Again, there is a lovely selection of exclusive printed fabrics to choose from.

If you’re looking for a special gift for birthdays or christmas, I’m sure you’ll be able to find something on their website.

You can find Just4Kids on Facebook & Instagram. Give them a Like & Follow to keep up to date with new items, news & competitions.

As always, thank you so much for reading. I really hope you’ve found this useful & that you have fun browsing all of those gorgeous handmade products over at Just4Kidz. They really are a lovely company with stunning products.

Festive Gift Ideas for Little Ones

9 Dec

Hi folks,

Me & the boys have been having fun the last few weeks playing with & testing some beautiful toys from Hape.

If you’re not familiar with Hape; they are the world’s largest producer of wooden toys. I always think wooden toys have a certain charm. They create that warm, fuzzy nostalgic feeling. And with such a well known brand – you know you’re always going to get good quality, well made products.

We were sent such a lovely collection… so here’s a little rundown & insight into what we have been having fun with;

This looks super cute & simply perfect in Ted’s nursery. It was really easy to assemble – no tools required & I did this one all on my own. It attaches to the cot really easily & is adjustable in height. The colours are beautiful, perfect & eye catching for little developing brains. It also winds up to play a lullaby. The quality is stunning. The music box is a wind up function, so requires no batteries. This mobile would make any little one a perfect Christmas gift as it’s suitable from birth. This would also make a stunning baby shower gift too.

My First Xylophone & Piano

We’re big fans of music in this house. Seth has gone to a music based group class from being 12 weeks old. Music is such an important part of development I think. Seth is now 2 years & 8 month old. He’s been having so much fun making music for his little brother. As well as an xylophone, there is a little piano which is made of removable wooden coloured shapes which also doubles as a shape sorter. This toy as a whole helps to develop shape, colour & sound recognition. I love the compact design of this toy. It won’t take up too much room in a toy box. It’d be great for popping in a bag to take over to the grandparents house when they’re babysitting 🙂 Perfect little parcel for any little folk for under the tree this Christmas.

Grow With Me Rocking Horse

I cannot begin to tell you how stunning this rocking horse is. Whenever I think of a traditional toy/play room, the first thing that pops into my head is a traditional wooden rocking horse. This is a perfect update on that traditional horse. The backrest has a lovely padded finish & you can even fix a wooden safety guard for younger children.

Ted is going to love it when he is a wee bit bigger.

Seth adores it as you can see in the above pics. It’s so study & strong. All of the edges are beautifully finished off… so smooth, so there aren’t any worries of finding sharpe bits. If you’re stuck on what to buy as that main big gift from Santa, then this would make a stunning main gift. It’s the perfect addition to any nursery, bedroom or play room.

The robust sturdy design of this rocking horse will withstand even the most boisterous of toddlers… Seth is a tad heavy handed at times & this horsey has remained in perfect shape.

Battery Powered Engine Set

What a stunning little set this is. The train set is battery powered & each carriage connects via magnets. There are also little trees & even a crane to bring your railway to life… the magnet on the crane lifts the cargo from each carriage. Each train carriage is brightly coloured & beautifully made – simply perfect for little hands. The track itself fits together like a little jigsaw, perfect for developing hand-eye coordination, creativity and sparks imagination. Seth LOVES this train set so much. Any child would adore this engine set.

Hape really do make some lovely things, they’d make any little one a beautiful gift or stocking filler. Hape offer a range of toys to suit all budgets.

Thanks so much as always for reading & happy shopping!

Keeping Things Shiny and New

13 Sep

Hi folks,

I’m always getting compliments on how new & shiny Seth’s buggy’s are. I guess I am a little bit of a clean freak in a lot of ways… but when it comes to buggy maintenance it’s totally essential. I like things to stay looking nice & brand new. Plus, the more well kept something is, then the longer it’ll last.

So… what are my top tips for keeping that all important buggy ship shape?

  • No Crumbs Here… seriously… crumbs seem to multiply when you have a toddler. Seth loves to snack & you can guarantee that when we’re out & about it’s going to be something extremely crumbly & messy. I cannot stand a buggy full of crumbs. Plus, it’s not hygienic. I hoover Seth’s buggy regularly. It may sound a little extreme, but literally a few seconds with a handheld hoover & all the crumbs are gone. I even hoover the basket on the bottom too as it seems to get sprayed with little pebbles & bits of dust from when you’re out & about walking.
  • Baby Wipes… Baby Wipes & More Baby Wipes… don’t you just love sticky finger marks everywhere… NOPE! So again… little ones love to wipe their hands everywhere. The bar across the front of the Mirus can get pretty mucky. My saviours are Baby Wipes. I wouldn’t want to use anything harsh or abrasive on the buggy in case it affected the fabric. So I tend to us a good old delicate baby wipe to eradicate any mucky finger marks. Works an absolute treat!!! Plus it’s super easy to grab a baby wipe when you’re on the go.
  • Germs Be Gone!… I store our buggy indoors. I don’t tend to leave in the car or the garage. So, I don’t really want muddy, mucky wheels spreading germs & dirt on the floors. I wash the wheels down with water & I tend to spray a little anti-bacterial on the wheels & give them a wipe. It’s the best way I’ve found to keep the wheels clean & working well.
  • Nice & Dry… We all know what the British weather can be like… dark, gloomy & wet. You can’t help it when you’re caught out in the rain. I never fold the buggy up to store if it’s wet or damp. I always leave it folded out & somewhere it’ll be able to dry fully. It just stop it from getting any kind of fusty smell.

I don’t just apply the above to buggy’s… I do this with Seth’s car seat too. In fact… I even hoover my handbags from time to time… honestly. That sounds so bizarre doesn’t it. But, when you’re a busy Mammy & throwing biscuit wrappers & half eaten bags of crisps into your Mam bag… crumbs happen!

Damon Marriott who is the Head of Product Development over at Joie UK has issued these handy hints;

How to maintain your buggy for a long-time ride

Damon Marriott, Head of Product Development, Joie UK

If you’ve just bought a brand new buggy, which is shiny and clean, then chances are you want to keep it that way and make sure it lasts as long as possible. Buggies do require a certain amount of maintenance to ensure they stay in working order – rust-free, clean and always lubricated (no squeaky wheels!). But don’t worry there are simple things you can do to keep yours in tip top condition. Damon Marriott, Head of Product Development at Joie UK, shares his top tips to help you to maintain your buggy, whatever conditions you use it in!

  1. Avoid sand and sea water

Beach visits are great day out for the family, but they’re also an environment that can cause havoc for your buggy! If you’ve had a great day out by the sea, it’s very important to take care of your buggy shortly afterwards. Make sure you rinse off the sand and seawater as sea salt is damaging to metal frames and working mechanisms and can get in the crevices causing rust. Clean the buggy using hot soapy water or a bike cleaning spray, and especially focus on the wheels and brake system, as rust can also be a problem here and prevent them from functioning properly. Also, remember to dust off any sand that might have been deposited in the basket area as this can often get forgotten. Once cleaned, lubricate again with a silicon based lubricant spray.

  1. Keep your buggy bone dry

Sometimes you just have to leave the house even though the rain is pouring outside and you end up returning with a soaking buggy. In these instances it’s important to take care of your buggy afterwards and let it dry properly. Place the buggy in an area where it can air dry. If the sun does appear then you can leave to dry outside, but a heated room will work just as well. The most important thing is to avoid leaving it wet and folded up in your car or cupboard, it won’t dry properly and will cause your car or home to become damp and it won’t smell that great either! If you have a rain cover on then make sure you hang this up to dry before you pack it away again too.

  1. Wipe clean

It’s also important to maintain the fabric on your buggy. Give the surface a good clean with warm water and a damp cloth, using mild soap. A soft fabric brush (or even a toothbrush) can be also helpful to scrub any areas that might require extra attention. With a dry towel, wipe away excess water and soap and let the buggy air dry in a warm place. Avoid using bleach or harsh chemicals as they may perish the fabric and be potentially dangerous to your little one. Finally, we recommend only machine washing buggy fabrics that specify they are machine washable as not all are. Never tumble dry any fabrics.

  1. Lubricate your brakes

Of all the parts of the buggy, the moving mechanisms are the most important ones to maintain. This includes the wheels, brakes and the recline and folding features. Keep them not only clean, but more importantly, keep them lubricated. If you do, the lifetime of your stroller will be hugely extended. For example: if you have squeaky wheels you can easily fix this with regular lubrication, this is the same for any other part of the buggy. If you start to find the brake pedal stiff to apply then lubricate it, ideally do this once a month to keep in good working order. We recommend using a dry silicone spray lubricant, and don’t forget to wipe off any excess spray.

Also, if your buggy has air tyres, make sure to check your tyres pressure regularly. Your buggy should come with an instruction manual which states the correct pressure limits. Tyre pressure is affected by heat and can cause the rims to warp, so store your buggy in a cool place to keep them at the advised level. Your buggy will be easier to push and manoeuvre when tyres are pumped up to the correct pressure. If you are going out for a long day, or somewhere like the beach, it can use useful to carry a pump with you.

You can find Joie’s full pushchair range here: https://uk.joiebaby.com/cat/pushchairs/

Damon has some fab tips! I’d never thought about lubricating the brakes etc… so that is something I’m definitely taking on board!

Obviously… everything above is just helpful hints. No one has time for a full deep clean after each use… but a little maintenance regularly does go a long way.

I hope you’ve found this blog post useful & thanks as always for reading!

Love & huggles,

Hayley xxx
