I May Not Be Perfect… But At Least My Eyebrows Are!

1 Oct

Hi folks,

I’m so happy that it’s finally Autumn… October is one of my most favourite months. I love crunchy golden leaves under foot, a chill in the air & the excitement of the party season fast approaching. I simply cannot believe that this month I will have a 1 year old & a 3 year old. How on earth is Ted almost a year old!? He started walking last month!!! Walking at 10 month… he’s so clever.

So, I’ve been wanting to write this blog post since January… but I’ve just been so busy & not gotten round to it. But… here it is. My eyebrow journey!!! As most of you know – I’ve had my eyebrows micro bladed. I can honestly say that this it is the BEST thing I’ve ever done cosmetically.

From years of over plucking… my eyebrows were just a state. I used to paint them in each day.

Eyebrow journey

Eyebrow journey

With all of the over plucking, my eyebrows had just simply stopped growing. It wasn’t too bad when I had a full face of make up on, as I’d draw them in. But, if I was having a no make up day (which is so rare for me) I’d just feel so self conscious. It’d be even worse while on holiday & in the pool with the kids… I’d just want to hide & cry about my face & the lack of eyebrows. It seems to trivial doesn’t it? But your eyebrows frame your face. It was such a big thing for me.

I started getting my nails done at Ruby Red in January 2018. While having my nails done, I just happened to mention that I’d toyed with the idea of having my eyebrows micro bladed. That’s when Jo, told me that she actually did micro blading. She gave me all the facts, broke down the process & how it all works. She also told me, not to rush into it, to really think about it all etc… well… that very same month… I got pregnant with Ted. So, microblading was off the cards for a wee while. Over the year I got to know Jo so well & she has become one of my most favourite people. Becoming such good friends with Jo, really helped me to make the decision to have my eyebrows done.

So… my first piece of advice… really research your beautician. Ask to see photo’s of their work. Have a consultation. Have your eyebrows mapped. Discuss any concerns. Discuss the shape & thickness. And DO NOT rush into anything. This is a semi permanent procedure that will be on your face. You need to be happy, at ease & 100% confident.

Eyebrow journey

At my consultation I had my eyebrows properly mapped & measured & I also had a dye test to make sure I had no allergies & to also colour match the dye. I opted for a much thicker & fuller brow. I have big eyes… cow eyes as my lovely hubster calls them lol. He assures me this a complement lol. I wanted quite big, full, natural looking brows with a nice arch. After going away for a week or so, I went back for my first sitting. With microblading, you’ll have your first sitting & then a few weeks later you have your top up. Its totally normal to lose a few strokes in your brows after your first sitting.

Eyebrow journey

Eyebrow journey

Eyebrow journey

Eyebrow journey

First of all… the first thing I’m asked:

Does it hurt? Yes… but not like a tattoo. I found it to feel more like a graze. It’s fine in the beginning… but toward the end of the brow, it’ll sting. My eyes watered a lot. You will have some numbing cream though… so really do not worry about the pain.

Can you wear make up straight away? Yes… as long as you don’t go on the eyebrow area.

How long does the scabbing last? Everyone is different… my scabbing lasted around 10 days. My scabbing looked more like dry skin. Most of it was gone after 7 days. But I had a few areas that were still there. So I opted to keep my eye brows dry until all of the scabbing was gone. The advice is to keep eyebrows dry for a week. But I didn’t want to force any scabbing away. My saviour was my Liz Earle Cleansing Cloth.

Eyebrow journey

It allowed me to give my face a good scrub & cleanse… while avoiding my eyebrows. Yes, during this period your eyebrows can look a little unkempt if you really look. But just make sure you get them done when you’ve nothing major planned… like a wedding etc… It does not last forever & the results are worth it.

Once the scabbing has gone… you can wear your make up & wash your face like you normally would.

Now… I have to admit that after a few days… I initially freaked out one evening. I started to panic as the ink will become quite dark due to the scabbing. When you’ve gone from no eyebrows – to full on brows, it can take a while to get used to them. Also, as I’m so dark, I had the darkest dye. After my slight wobble… I loved them. Life is so much easier when you have brows.

Eyebrow journey

After my top up… I was even more in love with them!!! They were full, dark & just perfect. They suited my face so much.

Getting ready on a morning is much quicker. When I have a full of face of make up, I do lightly shade them in. But that is just my personal choice. I cut them in with my concealer & foundation & then I use a Make Up Revolution Eyebrow Pencil. But because I already have the brow there… it’s so quick & easy. Literally takes minutes.

Eyebrow journey

Eyebrow journey

So… what do my brows look like now? Have they lasted?

Eyebrow journey

YES!!! They’re still amazing. And… do you know what else is utterly amazing??? My own eyebrows have actually started to grow! They’ve not grown for years. I’m wondering if maybe somehow, the trauma of the micro blading has stimulated the roots?

I am due a top up in January, & I simply cannot wait. In some ways I wish I’d had them done years ago. But then I’m also glad I didn’t, as I may not have found Jo. I’m so glad that she was the one to do them.

If you are in the Yorkshire area & you’re considering microblading… contact Jo at Ruby Red. She’s AMAZING!!! A true artist. I have linked their Facebook page, where you will find all of their contact details.

Before I go… I just want to leave you this:

Eyebrow journey

Literally all of the brow emotions you will go through lol.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this post & you’ve found it interesting. If you’re considering micro blading – book that consultation!!!

Thank you as always for reading!

Feeling Comfortable in My Own Skin

23 Sep

Hi folks,

More than ever, we seem to be bombarded with images of picture perfect people… flawless skin… perfect figure… nothing seems to be out of place. I’ve always been a bit of a self conscious person when it comes to how I look. I’m so confident in who I am as a person… but when it comes to how I look… I’m so critical & self conscious.

After having the boys… I have noticed a massive change in my skin. The problem with a change in your skin also effects your make up! So, not only does your skin look & feel different with a naked face, but it also looks & feels different when you’re wearing your make up. Such a nightmare. Especially when you’re already feeling a little self conscious from just having a baby. And… you also have the added pressure of not having oodles of time either to start a brand new in-depth skincare regime!

So… what changed with my skin after pregnancy.

Under my left eye, I developed a little prominent blood vessel. I know it looks small… but to me it looked like a beacon! I think it happened during pregnancy while throwing up so much. I’ve always had a rosy pink complexion & that’s fine as it’s always something I’ve had so I’ve always bought & wore make up that hid it a little. However, after pregnancy I always felt it looked more patchy. And, my cheek area became super dry in areas & under my eyes which meant that my foundation & powder started to clump, which is not a good look. But, my T Zone area became massively oily. This meant that my foundation was clumping in the dry areas & then smearing off in the oily areas. My pores were becoming visible under my makeup in the oily areas, if that makes sense… almost like the inside of an aero bar.

I just do not have the time to spend hours on my skin & make up with a 3yr old & a 10month old to run around after. But… I still want to feel & look good.

Starting on 22nd August… I began using my new products from ESKI decided to document the results & I’m so glad that I did.

I’ve added dates to the photo’s so you can see how skin has improved.

The areas that I feel have improved; my skin isn’t as greasy, fine lines seem to have improved, no dry patches & I feel like the small blood vessel isn’t as prominent.

So… what is my new skincare regime I hear you ask? Well, firstly I can promise you that my new regime is super simple & hardly takes up any time! I am completely in love with the ESK Hydroxy Cleanser. I use the Hydroxy Cleanser morning & night. I wear make up everyday & I do tend to go for a smokey eye look complete with black liquid eyeliner & black mascara. So I need a cleanser that will be gentle, but will also remove every bit of make up. This cleanser does all of that! You use it just like a face wash. The 100ml bottle should last you around 3 months. I’ve never been a fan of cleansers & toners… I always found cleansers to be too greasy & toners to be too harsh, which would end up making me too pink. The hydroxy cleanser, cleanses while being nice & gentle, & it’s also soap free. It doesn’t make me red & I never feel any skin tightness after using, which I’ve always found that I get when using other face washes.

After cleansing on a morning I then use B Quenched. This product can be used at night or morning. I’ve been using each morning & I can honestly say that this moisturiser is my most favourite skin care product EVER! It is absolutely gorgeous! It’s everything I’ve always wanted in a moisturiser. With having an oily T Zone, I always thought other moisturisers used to sit on top of the greasiness. So I’d avoid putting anything on my T Zone. So I’d only end up moisturising my dry cheek area. This products helps to improve the skins barrier function, reducing hyperpigmentation and acting as an anti-inflammatory agent. I think my redness has massively improved. Also, I never knew that when the skin is super oily, it can be a direct result of the skin being too dehydrated. This product helps the skin to retain moisture, but my oilyness has greatly improved. My skin overall just feels less greasy, less dry & looks less red. My make up has been going on so well. I’ve stopped using a primer under my make up as this moisturiser gives such a lovely even base.

My make up isn’t clumping or sitting in lines. It’s also staying put all day… so that alone tells me that my oily skin has improved.

I’ve been using Ultimate A everynight before bed after using my Hydroxy Cleanser. I just want to say first off – that this product is not recommended while pregnant or breastfeeding due to the content of Vitamin A. This product is an amazing anti-aging product. I absolutely love this. I feel like my fine lines around my eyes have reduced. I’m now 37 & fine lines are my main concern. I think we’re all looking for that wonder cream that will make us look a little younger. I have no problem being almost 40… but I also want to look good too. This product promotes collagen growth, increases skin elasticity and reduces hyperpigmentation effectively and without irritation. It’s a lovely light cream, not too heavy or thick. It makes your skin feel so super soft. Again, like the B Quenched – I feel like this product has helped to reduce the redness. Normally after cleansing & moisturising on an evening, my skin would be so red. But I can honestly say, my skin looks calmer.

My 3 stand out products are: Hydroxy Cleanser, B Quenched, & Ultimate A. I honestly feel like I have new & improved skin, with no extra effort. When we feel good about ourselves, I think we can deal with the pressures & stresses of a busy lifestyle so much easier. Another great feature to these products, is that they give you a full run down on how to use them & when to use them. They really feel like a tailor made skincare regime just for you.

I will be continuing to document my skin progress & will be writing a progress post about it 🙂

I hope you’ve found this post useful & interesting. I’ve added the links to the products that I’ve been using so you can read further & even treat yourself.

Thank you so much for reading!

Look Good Feel Better

28 Feb

Hi Folks,

Over the last few weeks I’ve been trying out some lovely make up brushes.

Look Good Feel Better is the only worldwide cancer charity providing practical support for women & teenagers struggling with the side effects of their cancer treatment. For over 20 years their programmes have helped people to face cancer with confidence.

I received the Mini Masterclass Brush Set. This gorgeous little set comprises of:

  • Powder/Blush Brush
  • Eyeshading Brush
  • Foundation/Concealer Brush

They come in a lovely little travel pouch too which is fab for popping in your make up bag!

So… what did I think? Well, they come in a lovely box & with the added bonus of the travel pouch – they feel expensive. The brushes themselves are lovely & soft.

I’m really picky with my make up brushes. I’ve found that some brands can feel very ‘plasticky’ & quite sharp. These brushes are lovely & smooth & soft.

The foundation Brush worked so well with my mousse foundation. I didn’t seem to use as much foundation as I do when I use a sponge or a blending egg. So that’s always a bonus – less make up usage = less expenditure! The brush helped to get into all the awkward areas on your face – like around your nose etc… this has fast become my favourite make up accessory.!

The eyeshading brush held the make up really well, and blended it fantastically.

The powder brush is lovely & fluffy & super big. It’s fab for dabbing on a little powder to create that matte effect. I’m not really into the ‘dewey’ complexion. I do like a matte finish. This brush works well without giving you that ‘caked’ effect. I also used it throughout the day to rid my face of that afternoon ‘sheen’ that I seem to develop.

Overall these brushes are fab! And you’ve the added bonus of helping to fund the fantastic work the company does.

Mother’s Day is just around the corner & these brushes would make a fantastic gift… they’d last a lot longer than chocolates & flowers.

Thanks so much for reading as always!

Resolutions, Health and Babies

8 Jan

Hi folks,

I just simply can’t believe that we’re already into 2018! Last year just went by so fast in a massive blur! I hope you’ve all had an amazing Christmas & New Year.

Our Christmas was simply amazing… lots of laughter, sparkles & food! Maybe a little too much food actually. I’ve gone back to basics today in a bid to lose 2 stone. I think coz my mind is the zone of healthy eating… I’m actually already feeling better. Mind over matter so they say. Healthy eating always makes me feel so much happier too.

In between Christmas & New Year, I had a few tests at Hospital. Luckily everything came back tip top 🙂 So I’ve literally skipped into 2018 with a clean bill of health. I’m hoping that maybe this could be the year that we add a new addition to our family. But I guess we’ll have to wait & see.

Until then though… we’ve added 2 new little darlings to our family… Tuna & Mayo 🙂 Seth’s new Goldfish.

Like most folk… I’ve started the new year with some new year resolutions. Now, I don’t like setting outrageous & unattainable resolutions… nor do I like the ‘New Year New Me’ saying… so here are my ‘realistic’ resolutions:

  1. Do more things for myself… what I mean by that is, that since Seth has been born I just don’t do anything as a treat just for me. I used to go out a lot & I used to have my nails done each month. All of that kinda faded away as I just put everything & everyone first. So, on Saturday I went to get my nails done all on my own. It was so lovely. I even made an appointment to have them done in 3wks time! Go me! I have to say that my separation anxiety has added to it too. Going out on my own just never feels right. But I think I’m slowly getting better with that.
  2. Be healthier. I’d love to lose 2 stone. I just really need to be the healthiest Mammy to Seth that I can be. I owe it to him to be the best version of myself that I possibly can.
  3. Be Positive. It’s no secret that I’m a positive thinker… and I plan on continuing that. Having a positive approach to life really does help to get you through the tough times.

I’m so excited to see what this year will bring. Last year we moved home & we didn’t anticipate that – but it was the best thing we ever did. I just love our home so much. Seth has more space to play. We’ve started to make plans for a little decorating. Nothing too in your face… just a nice freshen up with mostly neutral colours. I want to add a roller blind to the guest bedroom & new curtains. Then in the spare room, we want to re-paint & add a new curtain pole & curtains etc… Seth’s Room doesn’t need a spruce up since we did when we moved in. The same as our room… we did all the sprucing up & finishing touches as we moved in. We shall get there I’m sure.

My lovely frosty view this morning.

I’m hoping this year will also be the year that I pass my driving test. The first step will be to get my theory test booked in. I’ve started my manoeuvres… well… pulling up on the left & parallel parking. Eeeeck… I just can’t wait until I’ve actually passed.

I can’t believe that Seth turns two this year too. I just do not know where the time is going. Soon enough we’ll be putting the tree up for next Christmas lol.

Well I shall leave this post here as I’ve a mountain of laundry to do… fun times lol.

Thanks so much as always for reading!

Prepping for the Party Season

18 Oct

Hi folks,

I love this time of the year… it’s easily my most favourite. The leaves are turning orange, there’s a chill in the air & the dark nights are drawing in. I just love it.

Our spare room now resembles Santa’s Workshop at the moment. I’ve been in full crafting mode prepping for Halloween & Christmas. I’ve even started to wrap Christmas gifts too! Haha… I know I know… I’m super early! But, the more I do now then the more time I have to just sit back & enjoy the festivities.

We decided this year we were going to set a sensible budget on how much we were going to spend on Seth… that budget literally went out of the window within hours. We’ve gone so overboard… but we just couldn’t help it. I keep thinking he’ll be our one & only… so why not spoil him 💙

We’ve bought him a gorgeous corner sofa for his bedroom. We’ve turned it into a reading corner. We were going to save it for Christmas… but we’ve given him it early. It just looks so cute in his room.

Along with pretty much finishing off our Christmas shopping… I’ve also started stocking piling in my pantry too. I’ve made a start on buying frozen party food. Crisps, chips & dips. Crackers, biscuit selections & chocolates. And of course… bottles of sparkles. I got a bottle of Bollinger for half price!!! I’ve also got some Moët I bought while it had money off. I always plan in advance, so when December comes all I need to buy is fresh & perishable items & then spend money on fun days out.

At the weekend we went Pumpkin Picking. I’d never been Pumpkin Picking before. Seth had so much fun trudging through the fields to find the perfect pumpkin. I just love family days out, making memories.

We’ve got a few visits to meet Santa booked for December… the plan is to see Santa each weekend in December. We’ve also got our holiday to Winter Wonderland at Center Parcs booked too… I’m so excited!!! You all know that Center Parcs is my happy place.

I’ve got a lovely blogging trip down to London booked for next month – Eeeeeeck! It’s exciting going down to London… but I always get a bit nervous too. I promise to take lots of pics… I’ll give you all more info about my trip soonly 🙂 And… I’m sure it’d be rude not to pop into Liberty too to check out their gorgeous Christmas shop.

Driving lessons are continuing on a sparkly high! In fact… I start manoeuvres in 2wks! Yikes! Can you believe that!? I’m starting with the dreaded parallel park. But… I shall remain positive! And I CAN do this! I tell you what though… driving with a bloody sat nav is rather off putting. It’s being added to the driving test come December… so that’s something I have to get used too. I’ve been playing lots on the theory test app – so I should get that booked in. I think there’s like a 6wk waiting list.

I’ve had quite a few medical appointments of late too… urgh! I’ve not been feeling 100% really. But, I’ve been having some tests & I have a referral to a consultant up at the Hospital – so hopefully soon I shall some answers & a solution. Once I know more… I shall let you know.

I’ve got lots of lovely reviews coming up too 🙂 so please keep checking back for those.

As always – thank you so much for reading!

Gorgeous Goodies… Thanks Crabtree and Evelyn

8 Sep

Hi folks,

You all know I’m a HUGE fan of Crabtree & Evelyn & I’m delighted to say I’ve been trying & reviewing more of their beautiful products!

Now… where to start… let’s start with…

I decided to start with this product as this was my ultimate favourite in the pack I was sent. It is hands down my most favourite product from Crabtree & Evelyn now. I literally adore this hand scrub. I’ve menetioned a lot in previous blog posts that I suffer with mild dermatitis on my hands – especially along the index finger on my right hand. So, a hand scrub is something I’d really not buy. I’d presume that it would aggravate & inflame my sore skin, but… How wrong I was…

This scrub is super soft & gentle. It almost seems to buff the sore, dry, rough skin. When you wash it off your hands they feel so soft. They even look fresher & brighter too. Almost like they’ve been given a brand new lease of life! I’ve been using this once a day. The fragrance is gorgeous. I cannot recommend this product enough!

Lavender & Espresso Calming Soap

I’m really old school in the sense that I still love a good old bar of soap. I’ve always got a bar of soap in a soap dish at the side of the sink. This soap did not disappoint. I love Lavender as a scent anyway, but with the mix of Espresso in there too – it gives a lovely kick. This mix is naturally purifying without stripping away at the skin. This soap would actually be perfect in your kitchen for after you’ve been chopping stinky onions & garlic. It’ll get rid of those strong foodie smells in an instant. Whenthis bat of soap is out of its wrappper it literally fills the room with its aroma.

Rosewater & Pink Peppercorn Hydrating Hand Recovery

This product smells utterly fantastical! I knew as soon as I used it that it had patchouli in there somewhere & after reading the ingredients – I was right! Patchouli is one of my most favourite scents. It always makes me think of Autumn days… I don’t know why… but it does. For me – it’s a very uplifting scent & it’s also long lasting. So you tend to take the fragrance with you.

This hand recovery is lovely. It’s been lovely to use on an evening. It seems to give your hands that much needed burst of hydration after a long day of running round after a toddler… constantly washing, scrubbing etc… you know what I’m talking about lol. This handcream has been kept in my bedside drawer… it’s now part of my bedtime skincare regime. I mean… we moisturise our face before bed… so why not our hands too!?

With Christmas fast approaching – you must visit your nearest Crabtree & Evelyn shop or visit them online. Imagine receiving some lovely luxury items in your Secret Santa? I mean you can buy some of their luxury foodie items for as little as £5. They have something to cater to all budgets. With Crabtree & Evelyn you always know you’re going to get top quality products. So go on… treat yourself & your nearest & dearest. With only 3 more pay days until Christmas… you’d best get your skates on!

Thanks so much for reading!

Quarantine Nightmares

22 Aug

Hi folks,

Wowzers… what a looooong 2 weeks it’s been. Let’s start on a happy-ish note though…

So… 2 weeks ago me & the hubster had our first night away alone in 17 month. I had a major melt down the morning we had to leave… I was literally sobbing uncontrollably & had an awful anxiety attack. I’ve never hidden the fact that I suffer really badly with separation anxiety. Seth however doesn’t lol… but I guess that’s a good thing. It’s just really because I’m never not with Seth. I don’t even really have nights out or catch ups with friends on my own anymore. Something that my hubster has said I need to start doing. So… I’ve promised to start taking baby steps in that direction of having some ‘me’ time. Anxiety is an awful thing though… it makes you feel like you’re suffocating at that moment in time when it strikes. But… I’m getting there.

So… we went to Chester for a family wedding which was absolutely gorgeous AND… I managed to slim into my beautiful size 14 dress for the occasion!!!

The sparkles were flowing… the food was delicious… the venue was stunning & love was very much in the air. All in all it was a lovely weekend & I’m so glad that I went. It was a major achievement for me.

When we got home on Sunday I was literally just so excited to see Seth. But, Sunday evening I could just tell that he wasn’t right… my Mammy senses were tingling & telling me something wasn’t right. So… at 5am Monday morning it was a trip to A&E with a high temperature. It was confirmed he had a viral infection: Hand, Foot & Mouth. Then… Monday late morning… he got worse… so back we went for more medical advice. As well as the Hand, Foot & Mouth Seth had Impetigo. Both these things I’d only read about in parenting books. So he was given a weeks course of antibiotics & serum for his nose. Along with special creams for his baby Eczema that had become infected by the Impetigo. What an utter nightmare & completely heartbreaking. Also… the hubster was working away all that week in Berlin. Me & Seth literally spent the whole week watching Disney & snuggling. He was so poorly. It’s awful when you can’t wave a magic wand to make them better.

After a week of quarantine Seth was starting to get back to his usual cheeky mischievous little self… when he took a downturn again. So off I went to see my GP to be told he now had tonsillitis 😦 I mean come on… can we please get a break!? So it’s back onto antibiotics. I am happy to say he’s doing much better now & will be finished the antibiotics Friday.  Coco has been watching over him closely.

You’re never going to believe this though… even after bleaching the house from top to bottom to kill the germs… even after using boiling water & dettol to clean all of Seth’s toys… the hubster has only gone & gotten tonsillitis & Hand, Foot & Mouth too!!! I think I may instal a decontamination shower in our lobby as people enter & leave.

Looking on the bright side though… I guess it’s not like we’ve missed any good weather with being stuck indoors lol, because quite frankly the weather has been utterly appalling. I mean… have we even had a summer yet?

We have had a spot good news – my hubster has been made course leader at the private university he works at – so I am an incredibly proud little wifey 🙂

To be honest… I haven’t much more to add to my little catch up. Apart from that me & Seth are totally obsessed with Moana… it’s our new favourite Disney. I’ve lost count of how many times we’ve watched it while he’s been poorly.

Hopefully I shall be catching up soon with a way more fun & exciting blog post!

I’ve some lovely reviews coming up about fantastic products from FrezyDerm UK, Crabtree & Evelyn, Nuby & Personal Planner.

Thanks so much as always for reading!

Love & Huggles,
