Lockdown Learning

20 Jul

Hi folks,

I can’t believe that the academic year has come to an end & we’re now into the Summer Holidays. I feel so sad that Seth didn’t get to say a proper goodbye to his Pre-School Teachers & Class Mates. We found out last week who his new Reception Class Teacher would be & which of his friends would be in his class. Seth is so excited to get back to school in September. He just loves to learn.

We’ve been doing lots of fun learning activities over lockdown & I think we’ll be carrying them on into the Summer Holidays too. Learning is much easier when its fun!

We had another lovely delivery of goodies from Best Learning.

My Learning Board iPoster  is utterly fantastic! It’s perfect for helping with Spelling, Writing & Counting. It’s interactive with touch technology & you can also use the wipeable pen too. There is 12 separate learning activities already built in. It’s perfect for fun learning games together. Lots of fun sounds & songs will keep your little ones entertained for hours. We’ve had so much fun with this lovely interactive toy. You can also hang it on a wall, perfect for a play room, study area or kids bedroom. The integrated calculator is great too… Seth thinks it’s magic.

Inno Pad: Smart Fun Lessons. This is such an amazing compact toy. It comes with 16 separate learning pages that slide into the Inno Pad for different learning experiences. The pages themselves are made from durable plastic… meaning they’re sturdy but also can be wiped clean. Skills that can be learned include alphabet, numbers, time, colours, fruits, shapes, animals, the weather, emotions, professions, music, various transportation & problem solving. The learning levels range from basic to advanced. This is toy is great for travel… it’s really lightweight & slimline. It’ll be great for travelling when we go to visit family etc…

Seth loves problem solving & having quizzes, so he’s had so much fun playing with it. It’s great for a childs development, as well as promoting creativity. We’ve had fun playing this together, but Seth also like independent play & learning. He can off & play with this & figure it all out for himself.

Magic Puzzle Globe. This lovely little globe comes in 26 pieces with a little stand. We did have to help Seth with putting this together. It’s been great though for helping Seth with basic geography. Seth is only 4 years old, but he’s utterly obsessed with asking where each country is in relation to the United Kingdom. So this has been such a great learning aid.

Our magic Puzzle Globe lives in Seth’s room, because he loves to go over to it & find all of his favourite countries. I just love the wonder & amazement on his little face when he looks & then finds different places.

App-Tastic

Hi folks,

Whether or not you like technology… it’s here & it’s here to stay. Being a blogger & a lover of gadgets, I very much embrace it. My husband works in a field that is very much technology based too. Before having children we discussed the use of technology at home… how will we moderate it & integrate it. It’s a fairly scary subject to people who are comfortable with it… so I can’t imagine how people feel about it who are’t very confident with it.

Seth is almost 2 years & 6 months old. He’s very aware of technology. He see’s people on their handheld devices, laptops etc… It doesn’t matter how much we try to shield him from it at home… he sees it when we’re out & about… he sees it on TV & in books. So, we made the decision to introduce him to it ‘on our terms’. We bought him an Amazon Kids Fire Tablet. He doesn’t get it 24/7. It’s more for when we are out, travelling or ‘sometimes’ at home for an hour.

I’m all about imaginative play… making things… making up stories etc… But, I do believe that technology has it’s place too. It can help our children to learn & develop if used in the correct ways. And not just used as a ‘nanny’ device.

Over the last month or so, Seth has been playing with the KidloLand Apps. The first thing for me that I like, is that it is Kid Safe Certified.

There is so much to explore on these apps. There are games, quizzes, songs, stories… etc…  Seth is a bit of an artist/creative thinker & also a total problem solver. The first area he explored was the drawing apps. He could draw, create shapes & patterns… the colours are stunning. And there’s also a lovely little tune going off in the back ground too. He kept saying ‘Wow Mammy… the colours’. I don’t think he’d ever drawn on tablet. So he thought it was ‘magic’. It was great though, as while he was playing with it, I could ask him what all of the colours were called or I could ask him to choose a ‘green’ etc… so yes he was having fun & playing which he thought was great & total playtime… but really… he was learning too. It’s not just mind numbing ‘youtube’… it’s an actual app that makes our little ones think & create.

Seth adores a problem solving game… recognising shapes, animals & patterns. You’ll find all of that with Kidloland. There’s also a massive library of stories, rhymes & songs.

Seth’s loved exploring the ‘Balloon Pop’ games & ‘Sorting Games’… I kind of don’t feel guilty about him having a tablet when he’s actually doing some educational.

The other great thing about this app, is that it works offline too. As long as you’ve downloaded the games & activities you want to use. I know it’s rare that you go somewhere that doesn’t offer free wifi, but you can guarantee that the one time you’re relying on wifi access… it’ll be down or super slow. Seth just asks for his ‘Animal games’ or his ‘Animal Books’ & I have them right there. It’s like his only little compact library in one place.

Another plus to the KidloLand Apps, is that they can be installed onto Android & iOS devices. If you fancy the sound of these apps… you can find them here via these links:

If you’re looking for some creative, fun learning apps for your little ones, I’d recommend looking into Kidloland.

Domestic Goddess Powered by GTECH

20 Nov

Hi folks,

You all know that I love a gadget… & you all know that I’m all for an easy life. I love anything that will make my life easier & will save me time. Time that could be spent, well… doing anything other than housework really.

Over the last few years I’ve had a love hate relationship with the dreaded housework. I’m a bit of a clean & germ freak. I seem to spend my life cleaning & dettoling every surface within an inch of its life. Even more so now that Seth is a toddler & pretty much into everything & seems to leave a trail of crumbs in his wake. Cleaning & hoovering is just something that needs to be done daily in our house. But hoovering for me has been a big no no for the last few years. You may all remember that a few year back I had 3 surgeries on my back. Which means the prolonged arch & bend of your back you have to sustain whilst hoovering is just impossible for me. That was until I was introduced to the GTECH Power Floor!

This nifty little lightweight gadget has turned it all around. We live in a 4 bedroom detached house which means… a lot of cleaning! Especially when you have a little boy & Chihuahua in tow. Most rooms in our house are carpeted, but a few are tiled & 3 others are wooden. The Power Floor can literally tackle them all with ease!

The Gtech Power Floor quickly and easily transforms from a floor vacuum to a handheld cleaner. I’m 5ft8’ & this vacuum allows me to hoover in the floor vacuum position with hardly no bending or arching required. It’s also super lightweight. A 4hr charge will give you 20mins of life. I can hoover my large lounge, dining room, big kitchen, utility room, downstairs bathroom & lobby all in under 20 mins!!!! Thats how quick & easy this vacuum really is. There’s no trailing cods or having to plug in, in one room then plug in another as the cord won’t reach etc… It’s completely cordless. Just amazing! It’s simply a must-have when you have children & pets. There’s no worry of them grabbing the cord etc… As it’s so adaptable, I can transform into a handheld in a matter of seconds & quickly hoover Coco’s Dog bed & nip to the car & Hoover Seth’s car seat! And it’s simply perfect for hoovering the stairs!

My lounge hosts many a playdate… so it’s amazing for tidying up after the little ones have been running riot. Gtech’s unique and patented AirLOC system* means the new Power Floor is not just great at picking up dust and fine debris but is designed to pick up larger objects too – fab for picking up those stray cheerios! It also has little headlights that will illuminate the way making smaller bits on the floor easier to spot. We actually had a glitter explosion yesterday on the lounge carpet (seriously – don’t ask) & the Power Floor was amazing at picking it all up & the little headlights even made it easy to spot every last speck of glitter!

I have to laugh, as myself & the hubster have actually been arguing & fighting over who gets to hoover lol. I think he loves this vacuum just as much as me. So… if you want your other half to start contributing more to the housework… maybe this little nifty gadget is just the answer.

With Christmas just around the corner – this would make a fab gift. You can purchase direct from the GTECH website for £249.99. With that you will receive free delivery within the UK as well as a 2 year guarantee. Also, if you buy it, try it & you decide that its simply not for you (I can’t imagine anyone would think that) you can received a full refund or exchange within the first 30 days! I mean – you can’t say fairer than that – can you?

I have to confess that I’ve had friends over just to give them a demo of the new fantastical vacuum in my life lol. Yes… I have become that person lol. But honestly… I can do a full tidy & hoover all 6 rooms downstairs in under 20 mins! AMAZING! This new vacuum has saved me so much time & hassle & it’s even reduced my pesky back pain. I simply could not live without this household item… it is a sure MUST HAVE!

Thank you as always for reading & I hope you’ve found this review useful!

Let’s Keep Our Little Ones Little For That Little Bit Longer

2 Feb

Hi folks,

As most of you know, I wrote a guest blog post for the lovely folk at Cofi Coo. Guest blogging is always so much fun. Especially when it’s about something you feel super passionate about.

Being a blogger & having a massive passion for social media & all things ‘techy’… & with my hubster being a Visual Production Lecturer… you can imagine that we fully embrace technology. We have plenty of techy devices around our home from smart phones to tablets to laptops… we use these things every single day. But as well as being technology junkies, we are parents to the most gorgeous 10 month old little boy. A little boy we need to nurture & help develop. Of course technology is going factor a lot in his life, I mean he’s growing up in the digital age. But the question I always ask myself is: When is the right time to introduce technology?

All babies seem to have this fascination with our smartphones. Why? Well, because they’re our ‘toys’ aren’t they? They makes noises & light up & above all, we tend to keep them away from our bambinos as they’re so expensive lol. You can see why they’re so alluring to our babies. I mean Seth can hunt out my iPhone in minutes… get it open & he actually uses his finger to scroll the screen! He is 10 month & he has already mastered the basics. It’s actually quite frightening. The blogger & social media guru in me wants to embrace technology & get Seth up to speed & tech savvy. But the Theatre Studies graduate in me wants to disregard technology altogether & focus on imaginative play… focus on how important play is in the development & learning process.

The conclusion that I’ve come too, is that technology is inevitably going to be a part of Seth’s life… at some point. But for now, I want to focus on fun without it. My motto for this post is: ‘Let’s Keep Our Little Ones Little For That Little Bit Longer’. Seth has plenty time for iPads & MacBooks. For now I want to be silly… I want to pretend we’re in a spaceship… I want to roll around the floor pretending to be a ladybird. Yes… I roll around like an idiot in the name of fun playtime. Seth thinks I’m literally the funniest human alive. I say human, as he thinks Coco  (our Chihuahua) is the the funniest thing ever… full stop. I can’t compete with her comedic ways.

Our new favourite addition to our playtime funtime is our Cofi Coo Quillow. We have the Space Bots Quillow. I love the fun vibrant design. The Quillow is great as it makes a fantastic play mat. We’ve had so much fun playing on our & naming all of the colours & counting all of the planets. Seth loves to lay down on it too when he’s feeling sleepy.

The quillow folds up too into a lovely pillow. Great for nap times or simply as a comforter to cuddle. Watch the handy tutorial on how to fold correctly… it’s super easy.

Right now you can get free delivery… but hurry as it’s for a limited period. This product is so well made & we literally use it almost everyday. On a recent trip to Liverpool we took it with us. As it folds so small into a cushion shape – it takes up hardly no room. In fact we popped it on the back seat of the car so Seth could see it. It’s just something familiar to make him feel at home. When we go on holiday next month, we’ll most definitely be taking it with us.

You can find Cofi Coo on Facebook & Twitter. Give them a like & a follow to keep up to date with special offers & more guest blog posts.
