Resolutions, Health and Babies

8 Jan

Hi folks,

I just simply can’t believe that we’re already into 2018! Last year just went by so fast in a massive blur! I hope you’ve all had an amazing Christmas & New Year.

Our Christmas was simply amazing… lots of laughter, sparkles & food! Maybe a little too much food actually. I’ve gone back to basics today in a bid to lose 2 stone. I think coz my mind is the zone of healthy eating… I’m actually already feeling better. Mind over matter so they say. Healthy eating always makes me feel so much happier too.

In between Christmas & New Year, I had a few tests at Hospital. Luckily everything came back tip top 🙂 So I’ve literally skipped into 2018 with a clean bill of health. I’m hoping that maybe this could be the year that we add a new addition to our family. But I guess we’ll have to wait & see.

Until then though… we’ve added 2 new little darlings to our family… Tuna & Mayo 🙂 Seth’s new Goldfish.

Like most folk… I’ve started the new year with some new year resolutions. Now, I don’t like setting outrageous & unattainable resolutions… nor do I like the ‘New Year New Me’ saying… so here are my ‘realistic’ resolutions:

  1. Do more things for myself… what I mean by that is, that since Seth has been born I just don’t do anything as a treat just for me. I used to go out a lot & I used to have my nails done each month. All of that kinda faded away as I just put everything & everyone first. So, on Saturday I went to get my nails done all on my own. It was so lovely. I even made an appointment to have them done in 3wks time! Go me! I have to say that my separation anxiety has added to it too. Going out on my own just never feels right. But I think I’m slowly getting better with that.
  2. Be healthier. I’d love to lose 2 stone. I just really need to be the healthiest Mammy to Seth that I can be. I owe it to him to be the best version of myself that I possibly can.
  3. Be Positive. It’s no secret that I’m a positive thinker… and I plan on continuing that. Having a positive approach to life really does help to get you through the tough times.

I’m so excited to see what this year will bring. Last year we moved home & we didn’t anticipate that – but it was the best thing we ever did. I just love our home so much. Seth has more space to play. We’ve started to make plans for a little decorating. Nothing too in your face… just a nice freshen up with mostly neutral colours. I want to add a roller blind to the guest bedroom & new curtains. Then in the spare room, we want to re-paint & add a new curtain pole & curtains etc… Seth’s Room doesn’t need a spruce up since we did when we moved in. The same as our room… we did all the sprucing up & finishing touches as we moved in. We shall get there I’m sure.

My lovely frosty view this morning.

I’m hoping this year will also be the year that I pass my driving test. The first step will be to get my theory test booked in. I’ve started my manoeuvres… well… pulling up on the left & parallel parking. Eeeeck… I just can’t wait until I’ve actually passed.

I can’t believe that Seth turns two this year too. I just do not know where the time is going. Soon enough we’ll be putting the tree up for next Christmas lol.

Well I shall leave this post here as I’ve a mountain of laundry to do… fun times lol.

Thanks so much as always for reading!

Hey Like Wow!

17 Jul

Hi folks,

How gorgeous has this sunny summer weather been that we’ve been having? We’ve had so many fun family days out & days in the garden. Staying hydrated in this weather is so super important. I try not drink too many fizzy drinks & tend to stick to water. However… over the last month or so I’ve been trying out a lovely beverage from Hey Like Wow.

So… what is it?

It’s a still vitamin water that is:

  • Sugar Free without the nasties
  • Enriched with Viatnins B6, C & D, Calcium
  • No Artificial Sweeteners
  • No Artificial Preservatives
  • Allergen Free

In the cap of the bottle you may be able to see a red button… Well this is a blast cap that delivers your vitamins straight into your water. Soluable vitamins are the most powerful the moment they hit the water. So, this amazing blast cap gives you the control of only releasing the vitamins right before you drink.

So… what’s it like?

I loved them. Like I said – I’m a big water drinker, so having something with a little more flavour & added vitamins is fab. They’re lovely ‘on the go’ drinks that fit great into a healthy lifestyle. The sports caps make them easier for kids to drink from too – Seth’s loved having a taste test.

To stay up to date with new launches from Hey Like Wow you can follow them on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram

For stockists please visit their website.

Thanks so much as always for reading 🙂

The Power of Coffee

22 Jun

Hi folks

As I mentioned in my last blog post – I’m working super hard at being healthy. Eating right… drinking plenty of water & trying to fit in daily body magic. But… along with all of these things, I’ve been sampling some coffee. A coffee that improves your mood… improves your energy levels… increases your focus & can even aid with regulating your appetite! So… what is this magical elixir I hear you ask!? Lean Java Bean

Now… you all know that I don’t go in for faddy diets. I don’t like anything that involves meal replacement or dropping to a scarily low calorie diet. I’m all about everything in moderation & losing weight the old fashioned way. I don’t like the idea of weight loss medication either.

Whilst having a catch up with a good friend, she told me about a health drink. A health drink that was coffee! I mean normally we’re bombarded with literature claiming coffee is bad. Lean Java Bean has increased anti-oxidants. Anti-oxidants seems to be some kind of buzz word we hear on health shows & in health magazines… but the top & bottom of it is that they’re fantastic for boosting your immune system, our mood, our memory, skin… etc… so many benefits.

Now… this all sounds great… but does it actually work. I was quite excited at the thought of a magical cup of coffee that’d give me a massive energy boost. I mean, as a Mammy to a 15 month old who juggles work, Mammy-ing & running a house, I can always do with a bit extra energy. You can imagine I was super excited to start my 3 day trial. You literally drink one each morning. Stick to a healthy diet & drink plenty water.

Honestly, I was not expecting to feel any different. But, after my first cup I seriously felt a little kick. I felt more awake & alert. I had more energy & I actually didn’t feel hungry between meals. And that was after day one!!!

The coffee itself tastes nice. I often find with a health drink, they can taste flavourless & quite frankly a little disgusting. So what a pleasure it is to drink a nice cup of coffee.

Now… let’s get to the weightloss aspect. I didn’t expect any weight loss with this coffee. And like I’ve already said I don’t do miracle weightloss aids. But… along with a healthy diet I lost 5lbs during my trial of this coffee. That’s right… 3 days… 3 cups of coffee… 5 whole lbs!!! I was speechless.

I’m sure some folk will say it’s a placebo effect etc… but as someone who has gone through a lengthy weightloss journey, this deffinitely feels to me like an extra little boost. Well, put it this way – I’m so convinced that it works that I’ve bought myself a whole box.

I’m actually so impressed. If you’re intrigued & would like more info, then head on over to the Nulife Facebook Page.

I can’t wait to see more results!

Thanks so much for reading & I hope you’ve found my review useful.

Wonderful Weekends

7 Dec

Hi Folks ✨

Wow… well this weekend has been a fantastical one… It’s been spent with loved ones… Just the way I like it. As you all know, it was a little touch & go whether my parents would would be able to make it for the weekend with my Dad being poorly. Normally they’d travel down on a Friday evening, but because my Daddy has been poorly they arrived on Saturday morning instead,  after picking up a much needed prescription. Then they headed on down to chilly South Yorkshire. I already had my dining table set up for our North Pole Breakfast… well actually… it became more of a brunch after all of the initial cuddling & gossiping we did as they arrived. My mammy made us an amazing Christmas cake & a gorgeous Apple Bakewell Tart. So… we basically drank tea… drank mango juice… ate Christmas Tree shaped crumpets & various sweet treats I’d purchased from Ocado. The Heston Blumenthal mince pies were truly delicious & worth every penny! Even though they’d proved a controversial choice to my parents as they’re fond of the ‘traditional’ mince pie… but… they were totally converted. They’re worth every penny!

My Mammy is so talented… The hours of work she has spent knitting some beautiful garments, along with pram blankets & a Royal sleeping bag. I’m not a big lover of ‘blue’… So she’s made the sleeping bag in the most gorgeous mint green. It’s simply stunning. Already his little wardrobe is building. I love homemade knitwear… It’s just so personal & full of love. Sometimes tradition is the way forward. I can’t wait to see what she does with the Christening cape I’ve asked her to knit.

During brunch I received a special delivery from MAM UK They’ve sent me an amazing Breastfeeding Starter Kit. Such a lovely company to deal with… I cannot recommend them enough. (See my blog post ‘Mammy to Be’ for a full in depth review of MAM UK.)

Normally when my parents visit we go out & about & shopping… but we decided upon a really relaxed ‘stay at home’ Saturday. I wasn’t gonna argue at that, since I’m still a bit under the weather. It was lovely just spending much needed quality time together surrounded by Christmassy-ness & Christmas Music.

Ooooh, we did pop out though to put the lotto on & to pop into Sainsbury’s to buy Mog’s Christmas Calamity. I bought a one for my little niece & a one for Baby T. It’s by Judith Kerr who wrote came to tea. At least £2 of the proceeds from Mogs Christmas Calamity go to Save the Children – helping Children with literacy. An amazing worthwhile charity. Go get your copy before they all sell out!!!

With my appetite being a little up & down & obviously with my new Crock Pot purchase… I decided home cooked healthy food was the way forward & I opted to test drive the Crock Pot. I made a Moroccan inspired Pork Stew & served alongside couscous… it was divine! You can find all of my recipes via Facebook on my Diet Page. Every plate was literally clean… so it’s safe to say that my recipe & the Crock Pot were a major success! I have to say though… That I needn’t have bothered with the homemade food & all of my little decorations, as the star of the show seemed to be my Lindt chocolate Santa place settings lol… Honestly my mam & Dad just loved them so much! They are pretty neat little things & would be great for parties or Christmas Weddings… either as favours or place settings or both! I bought mine for £4 for two packs. Each Santa is individual with a little place to add someone’s name.

The rest of the evening was spent cozied up chatting & drinking hot drinks.

Sunday morning seemed to come so quick… So that meant my Mam & Dad were packing up & ready for their drive back up to Durham. They always leave pretty early on a Sunday, to give me & the hubster a day to ‘us’ over the weekend. I mean, when you’re working full time Mon – Fri… It is nice to have some time to spend together & to have a chill out before Monday morning arrives again.

Although… I had a busy Sunday a head of me in the shape of Carol’s Surprise Hen Party. Around 10 of us headed up to The Earl of Doncaster for a Champagne Afternoon Tea… Although mine was ‘lemonade’ based rather than Champagne. Oh how I miss my sparkles… It’s all for a good cause though. It was so lovely. It was exactly what Carol wanted… Fancy, Low Key & Christmassy. There was a pianist in the corner of the large room singing Christmassy tunes… It was just really lovely. But obviously… we all ate far too much… Oooops!

When I got home I was very much ready to slip straight into my Christmassy PJs & cuddle up with the hubster & the Chi. Coco was actually sat waiting for me to come home… She’s such a little sweetheart! No early night was on the cards though with it being the ‘I’m a Celebrity’ final!!! And of course Vicky won it! I’m so chuffed she won it… I really do love her zest. She’s super funny too. A very deserving winner in my eyes with all of the trials she completed. I’d be no good in the jungle lol… I like my creature comforts too much & I’m so not brave when it comes to insects, no make up & curly hair! lol… Eeeeck living without my hair straighteners for me would be an utter nightmare! Did you know that I have 3 pairs of GHDs, 1 pair of She & 1 pair of Kodo just in case one breaks??? lol… seriously… curly locks isn’t a good look for me lol.

So after a busy Sunday… I was very tired this morning & of course needed my Choccocino for when I got to my desk. This week also marks my last week before beginning my Christmas Holidays… followed by annual leave… followed by maternity leave. So as of this Friday I shall be off work until February 2017! Can you actually believe that!? So you can expect lots more blogging & fabulous reviews as I’m currently working with some fantastic companies right now.

Today just randomly turned into a ‘meatfree’ Monday. I do try & make us at least one vegetarian meal a week as I’m conscious of having too much meat in our diet. Lunch was a lovely homemade salad of lettuce, rocket, cucumber, peppers, olives & mixed veg cous cous.

Tea was vegetable fajita’s… So nice.

I’m still trying to be healthy with ‘most’ of my food choices during this pregnancy.

Tomorrow is gonna be pretty exciting… The hubster is off work all day as we’re having our new carpets fitted!!! We’re having new carpet in the lounge, porch, stairs, landing & the nursery. I’m so glad that we could schedule it in before Christmas. I just can’t wait to have everything all nice & neat & tidy in time for Christmas. I’ve literally wanted new carpets since we moved in, in March. But there just seemed bigger things to do before the carpets. I think next Summer will see the dining room & lounge being totally re-decorated & possibly new double glazing… we shall see!

Well… I shall leave this post here.

Thanks again for reading!

Drama at Thorne Towers

4 Dec

Evening Folks,

Today has felt like the looooongest day! It really has. About as long as my hair actually. Seriously… My hair has grown like 3 inches in the last 9 weeks since I last had it cut. It’s so much thicker too & mega glossy. It must be pregnancy hormones. I’ve not dyed my hair since last Christmas. It’s looks in the best condition it’s been in years. I so hope this continues. I tried to catch a pic of my hair from a side angle… also catching a glimpse of the bump too.

Felt so tired this morning when my alarm went off for work… really didn’t sleep last night at all… so obviously when I got to work I needed to head to Campus Coffee for a large choccocino to get me through the morning. It was soooooo good!

Literally not long after getting there Amanda from level 4 appeared with a lovely gift for me… An Elf on the Shelf!!! I was so excited! I was gonna buy a one next year for the bambino, but now I have a one for this year to play with lol. After much deliberation & some input from Garry – I’ve named him Tavistock 🙂

I finished work today at 12noon. I originally booked the afternoon off as my Mam & Dad were meant to be coming down today for the weekend… but because my Dad has been poorly they’re not coming now until tomorrow morning. But I decided to keep my afternoon off anyways as we had a major drama in Thorne Towers… Our slow cooker started to drop to bits! Now that is a major tragedy in here as I use my slow cooker all of the time for my healthy diet friendly meals. So my early finish meant a trip in to town on my way home to buy a replacement. But of course I needed to pop into Primarni on the way… I couldn’t resist these cute Christmassy Minion Pyjama’s… or as my little niece would say; “Inions”.

I also popped into Marks & Sparks too, to get some yummy food for this evening as the hubster is at his Christmas ‘Works’ party. So I got some quinoa & salmon for lunch & then salad with mini chicken fajitas for tea… so yummy!

So… after some spontaneous shopping I trekked to Argos which was totally hideous I may add! It was red hot & full of frantic Christmas shoppers!!! I hate shopping in December. This is why I do all of my shopping waaaaaaay before December. I can’t stand the crowds & it’s even worse when you’re pregnant. I decided to upgrade us from a cheap slow cooker to an actual proper Crock Pot! lol. I mean I can’t grumble really coz I only paid £10 for our old slow cooker like 5 year ago. I only paid £36 for our new beautiful Thyme Crock Pot though so it’s an utter bargain! I can’t wait to try it out tomorrow! So stay tuned for a full review of it. I’m gonna make a Moroccan inspired feast tomorrow evening. I know it’s not pink… but I could only get a pink Crock Pot from the Official American website & I just simply couldn’t wait that long for it to arrive. I tell you what though… It was a right mission of epic proportions getting that Crock Pot home coz it bloody weighed a ton! Even just getting it up the drive was an epic feat! Although I did have time to snap a pic of our gorgeous wreath on the front door that the Hubster bought us yesterday from York on his way home.

I think the Thyme Crock Pot fits nicely into our Pink & Lemon KitchenIMG_7649

When I got home I had a much needed chillax in my new Minion PJ’s. Then I got to work on my Christmassy dinning table ready for our North Pole Breakfast in the morning. I’ll take lots of pics of the yummy non-diet food we have lol.

These little Lindt Santa’s are a great alternative to a place setting card… And they’re a tad yummier too lol.
So… while the hubster is out I’m having an evening of Chihuahua cuddles… TV… & writing. I’ve been approached by some big Baby brand companies to do some writing for them… So I need to get some practice in lol. Plus with Coco reviewing for two doggie companies now she needs some practice too… Maybe one day, Coco will collaborate on a book with me lol.

I hope you’re all having a lovely Festive Friday evening. Oh & I just wanted to remind you all again about the amazing coupon code I’ve been given for the Christmas Birchbox! Follow this link: https://www.birchbox.co.uk/invite/zd49d then use coupon code: CLOUDXMAS to get your box for £6.95 including the delivery. You’ll get a clutch bag, Benefit goodies, Liz Earle… loads of nice things. Also you’ll get £5 worth of points to spend in the Birchbox Online Store… You should have it before Christmas.

Anyways… I shall leave this post here.

Thanks again for reading!

Does My Duck Face Look Big in This!?

23 Oct

Hi everyone, it’s been such a long time since my last blog post. The time seems to have gotten away from me… Since my last post, I’ve recovered from yet another operation on my back. I’m happy to report that this one was more successful than the last two, so hopefully I’ll soon be 100%!

Well, obesity seems to be a HOT topic on the news again lately. It affects so many people’s lives. Everything was way more difficult when I was fat… Even having my picture taken! Honestly!!! The whole ‘duck face’ craze really saved my life when I was fat lol. Sucking my cheeks in to make the famous duck face, made my face look slimmer. Therefore, I was able to fool people on social media that I wasn’t as big as I actually was.

I literally became a pro at taking pics of myself without revealing my true size. For some reason, when you look at yourself in the mirror, you can kind of talk yourself into thinking you’re not ‘that big’… Yet a photograph never lies & truly shows your size. So my idea, was to become really good friends with the camera & deceive it a little. Another trick of mine was to hold my camera up high & take the pic down overs – thus ensuring my extra chins were firmly hidden out of sight!

Another sneaky technique is to sit with your bag or coat or a cushion on your knee… You can tell people it’s for comfort or warmth… But really you’re hiding your 5 bellies really well! I was always a fan of hiding my extra chins in pics with either my hand or I’d pretend to be all snuggly under a blanket & hide part of my face.

I literally became obsessed with how I looked on photographs. I really hated how I looked. I even set up my Facebook page so that no one could tag me in photographs & my page was set so that there weren’t actually any photographs to view. The only pictures visible of me, were my profile pictures. That way I could make sure I was looking ‘pretendy’ slim.

However… One night everything came to a head. I went to my Uncles 50th Birthday Party. While there, a photographer was taking lots of pictures… Clearly I couldn’t say to him that he had to sit on the ceiling to take my pic or ask him to give me plenty of notice before he took a picture to ensure I had my cheeks perfectly sucked in. This photograph was captured:

I was horrified… That is what I actually looked like. My face was so red & I was so plump. I was 29 years old & 18 stones… I was so unhappy. But you know what? I’m so glad that picture was taken… It made me realise that I DID have a problem. Only now, am I able to allow a picture to be taken face on & at the same level. Only now am I feeling more confident with how my face looks.

What really gets me, is that if a person is a heavy smoker, heavy drinker or anorexic, it’s socially acceptable to say to those people that they need help & that they shouldn’t be doing the things that are hurting them. So, people think it’s okay to tell a ‘skinny’ person to eat a burger & put weight on. If someone is smoking, you can cough loudly & say it’s disgusting & that they should stop for health reasons. Yet, it’s completely taboo & unacceptable to tell someone that they’re fat & they need to address their eating habits. Why is that!? My parents were so deeply concerned about me. My Mam would cry & say “Hayley… You’re going to have a heart attack & I don’t want to bury my daughter”. How upsetting & sad is that? The NHS is literally crumbling under the weight of the obesity epidemic. These bariatric surgeries are used for a ‘quick fix’. Personally, I think obese people should be given help & support. Some obese people need the intervention an anorexic or bulimic person receives. They need counselling & knowledge on food & how to eat. I actually, truly believe that I have an eating disorder. I have a very awkward relationship with food. But, over time & dedication I’ve managed to control it. Being fat isn’t always about ‘greed’ & ‘fast food’… Quite often it’s emotion, addiction & ignorance.

Even though I’ve had lots of operations to rebuild my right leg & now more recently on the base of my back (I also have 3 collapsed discs in my spine), I have way more energy than I had when I was fat. I was diagnosed with Raynaud’s Disease 3 years ago – so I find it difficult to warm up & cool down, especially in my extremities. But, when I was fat – I was just red hot all of the time. It would literally have to be snowing in the winter before I’d actually wear a coat, simply because a coat made me look fatter & made me so hot & bothered when I was walking anywhere or going in & out of shops. Now, since I lost most of my weight, I’m literally cold all of the time. I’m now appreciating Summer too! Before, during the Summer time I’d get terrible red raw skin & blisters between my thighs from walking & them rubbing together. I used to tell people it was allergic reactions to things, to hide the fact that it was down to my weight. It really upsets me to think that I hid all of this for so long.

I’m now feeling like I’m finally on the road to where I want to be. I’m feeling healthier & happier with my weight. I’m not where I want to be with my weight yet, but another stone & I think I’ll be there.

IMG_0315-0.JPG I’m still making my meals from scratch & controlling my weight with my diet alone. I find being organised is the easiest way to keep on top of healthy eating.

I make a lot of my meals in the slow cooker, it’s great for while you’re at work. I tend to have everything in it by 6am, before work. I document all of my recipes on my journey page:

The Fear

29 Aug

Hi Readers 🙂 I’m really sorry that its been quite a while since my last blog post. I’ve just been incredibly busy of late so I thought I’d take this opportunity to write a blog post while I’m on vacation and chilling out 🙂 This is going to be another very truthful blog post.

The Fear – now that is something that used to control my life… The fear of being hungry! Now I know you must be thinking “that’s crazy”… But honestly that is the truth. When I was fat I would constantly panic about “but what if I’m hungry?” This fear would be worse if I was out for the day… I noticed this only last week whilst sat in Wetherspoons with my husband. We’d gone out for lunch and I’d decided to have a 5 Bean Chilli with Rice which is a far cry from the mega burger and pint of lager that I used to frequently order along with the sides of onion rings and cheesy garlic bread. Well on the next table there was a family of 4 and the oldest daughter was a big girl and she was analysing everything on the menu and kept saying “well I need to order enough or I’ll be starving later”… That’s when it struck me, that, that was exactly what I used to do. It got me thinking about my old bad habits. Well… So what if you do get hungry – it’s not the end of world. But when you’re overweight it is.

I mean even these days my whole day still does revolve around food but in a very different way. I just like to know that I’m organised and that I have plenty ingredients in to make something healthy, nutritious and yummy for tea. Or if I am going out for the day I generally know what the lowest fat things are on the menu these days. The only time I tend to indulge nowadays is when I’m on holiday or if I really do fancy that piece of chocolate cake for dessert.

Basically for me I think my weight gain was a totally mental thing. It was my weird and unhealthy relationship with food and the constant fear of being hungry. But guess what… If your tummy is rumbling and you’re hungry for your next meal then you’re probably going to really enjoy that meal. I confessed to my husband that actually back when I was fat there was very few times that I ever felt real hunger. Really all I was doing was just topping up my food intake… Rather than actually eating when I was hungry. Instead of letting my tummy tell me when it was time to eat… I’d let my head tell me it was time to eat, irrelevant of if I was actually hungry or not. I think that was the scariest thing about starting a new healthy lifestyle… I was worried I’d be hungry all of the time.

I’m not going to lie, it did take me around 2 month to get used to eating when I was actually hungry. The feeling of being hungry and having a rumbly tummy was such a new experience to me. But now it’s just normality. If I do eat too much I tend to feel really poorly now. Don’t they say that your body I’d a temple? Well if its a temple then why should we treat it like a dumping a ground?
We are what we eat… Now that’s another very good saying!
It don’t matter how much exercise you perceive yourself to do, you need to back up that exercise with good healthy and nutritious food. If not then you’re only going to undo all of that good hard work. But don’t kid yourself into believing something that isn’t true. I always used to tell myself that I wasn’t fat and that I was only a little over weight but guess what… I WAS FAT. Until you can be honest with yourself then you won’t achieve your goals.
The photographic evidence speaks for itself.

I’ve noticed that’s its not just been my weight that has been affected by my new lifestyle… My hair and skin are also so much healthier. I’ve actually been told A LOT recently that I look younger these days! Now I’m happy with that lol. At thirty something I’m more than happy to be told that I only look 23 years old! Lol.

Here’s a little collage of some of the breakfasts, lunches and dinners that I’ve prepared and eaten over this last month
Nobody is telling you that you can’t have anything naughty ever gain… Coz let me tell you… While I’ve been on vacation these last few days I’ve had cake, a burger and some of the coal beers lol! You need to treat yourself! You just also need to know when to say no also!

Here’s the photographic evidence of my naughtiness… I’m not trying to kid anyone into believing that I’m a total saint with my calorie intake… Because I do still treat myself… Otherwise I’d never be able to maintain a low fat diet most of the time. If you would like to follow my Facebook page: www.facebook.com/ixxypoco then you’ll see on a more daily basis that I’d o document everything that I eat… I don’t just document the healthy stuff. I’m very honest with all of my followers. I also log everything on my Instagram page too. You can follow me @ixxypoco too on Instagram.

I do have to confess that a soya latte from Costa with a sweetener is one of my new favourite vices… mmmm yum!

Something new that I’ve started is doing sit ups morning and night. I do 75 on a morning then 75 before bed… In just 5 weeks I’ve lost 2.5 inches off of my waist. I’ve gone from a 38″ waist to a 35.5″ waist in just 5 weeks which to me is amazing. I’m aiming for 31″ as medically a waist over 31″ in women increases your chances of heart disease and diabetes. Which are pretty scary statistics I think. I only started with 10 sit-ups and just started to build from there. So it just goes to show that small changes on a regular basis can have huge results in the long run! 🙂

Well… Thanks again for reading and all of your positive support!

Lots of love,

Hayley xx

“On the great clock of time, there’s but one word – NOW”

8 Jul

Never a truer word spoken. The time is now… there’s never going to be a right moment to start losing weight… But by changing your lifestyle today, you’re giving yourself extra time in the future. Medical experts all over the world are reporting that a healthy lifestyle and a healthy weight is the key to a longer life span. I don’t know about you but I’m planning on being around for as long as I possibly can! 🙂

The easy thing to do is to try and block out your weight gain… but the right and often the harder thing to do is to admit that you need to change, before it becomes an even bigger problem to solve. being unhealthy and over-weight will only lead to a dark future ahead of health problems and pain.

I’m such a bookworm/geek and just couldn’t help dropping that quote in by Dumbledore… he’s a clever man that Dumbledore. I’ve often thought about the above quote while I’ve been on my weightloss journey so far, I just found that it kind of related to me and made sense.

Try not to get hung up on labelling your weightloss goals… I try to steer clear of the word ‘diet’. I just think there’s a lot of stigma attached to that word;

  1. It can make you feel like you’re under pressure to succeed
  2. Once people know you’re on a diet they tend to taunt you and try to get you to eat junk food
  3. There are too many ‘faddy’ diets out there that can bamboozle your brain!

So, say no to diets and yes to plain old healthy eating 🙂

By just adopting a healthy relationship with food you’ll feel more in control and less likely to give yourself such a hard time. With healthy eating you can still have those treats… you just have to plan them into your healthy eating regime. But please do remember that you’re not a dog… so don’t reward yourself with a teat! I guarantee that it will get so that you enjoy your healthier foods more than your old favourites of greasy, salty, oily take aways! Also this way it’s not as obvious that you’re trying to lose weight, because you’ll still be eating good sized portions and regular food. Not these stupid calorie controlled ready meals that wouldn’t even fill up my  teeny Teacup Chihuahua! lol. There is no way that I could live my life drinking detox shakes, slimming soups and protein only meals! Yak! Plus… it makes your breath STINK!

The only negativity I’ve encountered about the whole healthy eating ethos is that people seem to be hung up on how much time it’s going to take them prepare everything from scratch… welll… I’ll let you into a secret… It don’t take long at all!

Here are a few examples of things I snack on, have for breakfast, lunch and tea… yes I’ve been timing myself all week when preparing my food… sad I know!

Breakfast Poached

Poached Eggs and Beans.

Preparation Time: 7mins (Heat beans in microwave while you poach eggs in poaching pan)

Scrambled Eggs (I use skimmed milk with my eggs – no butter) and Beans.

Hartley’s 10 Calorie Jelly Pot.

Fat Free Quiche No Pastry

Pastry-less quiche.

Preparation Time: 6mins to prepare and 22mins to cook.

Prawn Salad

Prawn salad.

Preparation Time: The prawns are bought ready to eat and the salad took 7mins to prepare.

Spaghetti Bolognese.

Preparation Time:

Sauce – 11 mins to prepare then throw raw ingredients into slow cooker and cook on low for 7 hours.

Since I started on a quote by Shakespeare I think it’s only fitting that I finish on a quote by Shakespeare:

Sorry to tell you this… But there are NO quick fix’s!

31 May

Hi Everyone 🙂

I’m very sorry for my lack of posts recently… Things have been very hectic recently with going on holiday etc… haha.

Just in case anyone was in any doubt; I am still ploughing on with my weightloss. I’ve now lost a total of 58lbs & 4 dress sizes 🙂 I’m still looking to lose around another 20-28lbs. But like my title says:

“There are NO quick fix’s”

Unfortunately the only way to achieve it without surgery (don’t get me started on that one!) is to do it the old fashioned way with dedication, determination, healthy diet and a positive outlook! So this is the theme for my post.

When I was at my heaviest I always hated that saying:

“Everything in moderation!”

I hated it because I knew it was true. Deep down I knew why I’d piled on the pounds… It was basically down to eating all the naughty good stuff with very little of the healthy good stuff. A bit like Thumper when all he’ll eat is the Blossom and not The Leaves 🙂 (sorry I’m a major Disney geek!)

You know, one fattening naughty meal isn’t going to make you obese… but if you’re having a takeout once or twice a week every week then yeah of course you’re gonna get fat. But if you eat a salad 2 days for breakfast, lunch & tea time… don’t expect to wake up as a size zero either.

Unfortunately we just aren’t that lucky!

I’m not being ‘preachy’, it’s just I get tired of people asking what my secret is or am I being unhealthy with my weightloss methods because it seems to have happened pretty damn quick. Well actually… I’ve been losing weight since 10th September 2012… so it’s been a fair few weeks, and I say weeks because I take each week at a time. I only aim to lose 1lb a week. I don’t starve myself, I don’t skip meals and I certainly don’t deny myself of that piece of Chocolate Cake if I really want it. I just know my limits now and I don’t treat myself EVERY WEEKEND. I plan my treat weekends and work toward them… so if I’ve lost 4 or 5lbs over a few weeks I know I can afford to have a total blow out weekend. Or if I’ve lost 1 or 2lbs one week I know at the weekend I can have that Profiterole Dessert down at The Boat Inn with several glasses of Merlot if I so wish. It’s not a ‘blip’ in your diet… It’s just living in a healthy responsible way where;

“a treat is a treat and not a habit”.

There’s always going to be holidays or birthday weekends or Christmas… but guess what… You tend to know in advance when they are going to be. So make a note in your diary:

“Be good for 6 weeks… End of month I’m going to Center Parcs for 5 days and I don’t want to be concerned with my weight and I want to be able to drink and eat at Starbucks every morning that week!”

Guess what… You can totally live your life like that without having to count points every waking minute. I’ve just been on a fantastic all inclusive 5 star holiday and loved every minute of it… I ate a Chocolate Croissant every morning for breakfast. I had some ice cream while I was there. I sampled the Cocktails on offer everyday and even ate some cake. But I didn’t gorge myself. I ate sensibly the majority of the time but still didn’t feel like I’d missed out on anything!

The best part of the holiday was knowing that I was 4 stones (56lbs) lighter than I was the last time I was on holiday… I even wore a bikini which I have not done for a loooooong time! I was happy and comfortable. Urgh when you’re over on holiday and you’re overweight it’s uncomfortable on the airplane… The heat exhausts you… Your fat thighs rub together and you get a horrid sore rash… It’s utterly grim! I never want to be that fat girl EVER again!

Image Don’t get me wrong… I still get self conscious about my body shape but that’s because I’m not at my target weight yet and because inside somewhere I’m still thinking like that fat girl. You know the one… The one one who tries to hide her weight with layered clothing… Or wearing something overly baggy in the hopes of looking thinner… The one who goes to bed at night wishing that lettuce made you fat and chips made you thin! Everyone is beautiful and no one has the right to tell you that you’re not. Big is beautiful… it just wasn’t beautiful on me. If you’re big and confident and love how you look that is a beautiful thing to have. But if you’re the one crying before you go out with your friends because deep down you feel like the fat one, then do something about it. You’ll feel empowered and in control for the first time in a long time I bet. All I can say is that’s how I feel. Every lost pound is a celebration 🙂

The thing that I find gets me through the week is making a mental menu for the week ahead. I plan out each meal and get my ingredients ready.

Image Unfortunately though life isn’t completely organised and things do arise out of the blue which can scupper even the best thought out plans. So always have in the back of your mind a really quick meal you can make at the drop of a hat that you know is filling but low fat.

Image One of my favorites is banana on wholemeal toast with a low fat spread rather than butter. It’s yummy and filling and it won’t effect anything in your bid to lose weight! For anyone like me whose bad habits used to be lots of take aways… Why not mess around in the kitchen and rustle up a healthy version of your favourite take out dish!

Image Chicken Chow Meine Fake-A-Way… Eat your fave foods but lose weight… Now you can’t say fairer than that!? I tend to avoid the odd naughty biscuit or packet of crisps through the week so I can fully indulge with my Sunday Dinner!

Image I always have lashings of gravy but I buy the reduced salt version, I always have roast parsnips but I use 3 sprays of FryLight to cook them in, I always have Mash or Roasties… again I use either FryLight or a Low fat Spread to make the mash creamy. But one thing I don’t cut back on is the Yorkshire Pudding hee hee 🙂

At the end of the day once you’re in the zone and focused you will start to realise that you can eat yummy meals without feeling like you’re starving to death to achieve the figure you want.

Image Just make sure that you have variety so nothing is boring… If you’re bored of your ‘diet food’… then you’re doomed to failure unfortunately.

I am the happiest and most confident that I’ve been in such a long time and I just want everyone to feel happy and content with themselves. So if my blogging can somehow help then I’ll be so happy. If I can help just one person achieve their weightloss goal… then even better. I had a lovely message a while back from someone saying that after following my healthy eating recipes she’d lost 15lbs in 8 weeks… That’s AMAZING! Don’t wait till New Year… Or next week Or next month… Do it now… You’ll surprise yourself with what you can achieve.

Over my 7 day holiday in Bulgaria I put on 2lbs… but since coming home I’ve lost 4lbs. So I’m officially 2lbs lighter than I was when I went away. This picture was taken 2 days after I got back from holiday (Monday 27th May 2013) while taking my Chihuahua for a walk… I felt a million dollars that day!

ImageThank you so much for reading again and for all of the supportive and lovely messages 🙂

Breakfast… It’s the Most Important Meal Of the Day!

26 Apr

Hi Everyone,

I hope you’re all enjoying this sunny weather. The thought of Summer is always a fantastic thing to inspire you to lose weight… I just keep thinking of cute summer dresses I can buy.

Well we’ve all heard that age old saying that ‘Breakfast is the most important meal of the day’. In my opinion this is true. A good nutritious breakfast will set you up for the day and you’ll be less likely to snack before your lunch. There are a variety of things you can have that are filling and won’t break your diet.

This is one of my favourite quick and easy breakfasts: 2 Weetabix with skimmed milk and sliced banana. The banana will sweeten the cereal so you don’t need to add sugar and the skimmed milk is very low in fat. You’ll feel full until lunch and you’ve also managed to squeeze in a portion of fruit too. The great thing about Weetabix is that you don’t need to weigh it out… You can have 2 of the bisks… Rather than weighting out 30g of regular cereals.

If I have a little more time on a morning I do like a bacon sandwich

Brown bread with a thin layer of low fat sunflower spread, a teaspoon of tomato ketchup, black pepper and 3 rashers of unsmoked back bacon grilled. So yummy and it’ll feel like a treat. But as long as you don’t go over board with your condiments or buttery spreads you’ll be fine. Just remember that you need to grill and not fry the bacon.

These are just a few ideas that you can use. Remember that eggs are a great breakfast ingredient and again they’re low in fat and very filling. Just always remember to be fully conscious of everything that you put in your mouth. Count those calories and saturated fats… And you’ll succeed in look fab for the summer!

Thanks again for reading! 🙂
