Quarantine Nightmares

22 Aug

Hi folks,

Wowzers… what a looooong 2 weeks it’s been. Let’s start on a happy-ish note though…

So… 2 weeks ago me & the hubster had our first night away alone in 17 month. I had a major melt down the morning we had to leave… I was literally sobbing uncontrollably & had an awful anxiety attack. I’ve never hidden the fact that I suffer really badly with separation anxiety. Seth however doesn’t lol… but I guess that’s a good thing. It’s just really because I’m never not with Seth. I don’t even really have nights out or catch ups with friends on my own anymore. Something that my hubster has said I need to start doing. So… I’ve promised to start taking baby steps in that direction of having some ‘me’ time. Anxiety is an awful thing though… it makes you feel like you’re suffocating at that moment in time when it strikes. But… I’m getting there.

So… we went to Chester for a family wedding which was absolutely gorgeous AND… I managed to slim into my beautiful size 14 dress for the occasion!!!

The sparkles were flowing… the food was delicious… the venue was stunning & love was very much in the air. All in all it was a lovely weekend & I’m so glad that I went. It was a major achievement for me.

When we got home on Sunday I was literally just so excited to see Seth. But, Sunday evening I could just tell that he wasn’t right… my Mammy senses were tingling & telling me something wasn’t right. So… at 5am Monday morning it was a trip to A&E with a high temperature. It was confirmed he had a viral infection: Hand, Foot & Mouth. Then… Monday late morning… he got worse… so back we went for more medical advice. As well as the Hand, Foot & Mouth Seth had Impetigo. Both these things I’d only read about in parenting books. So he was given a weeks course of antibiotics & serum for his nose. Along with special creams for his baby Eczema that had become infected by the Impetigo. What an utter nightmare & completely heartbreaking. Also… the hubster was working away all that week in Berlin. Me & Seth literally spent the whole week watching Disney & snuggling. He was so poorly. It’s awful when you can’t wave a magic wand to make them better.

After a week of quarantine Seth was starting to get back to his usual cheeky mischievous little self… when he took a downturn again. So off I went to see my GP to be told he now had tonsillitis 😦 I mean come on… can we please get a break!? So it’s back onto antibiotics. I am happy to say he’s doing much better now & will be finished the antibiotics Friday.  Coco has been watching over him closely.

You’re never going to believe this though… even after bleaching the house from top to bottom to kill the germs… even after using boiling water & dettol to clean all of Seth’s toys… the hubster has only gone & gotten tonsillitis & Hand, Foot & Mouth too!!! I think I may instal a decontamination shower in our lobby as people enter & leave.

Looking on the bright side though… I guess it’s not like we’ve missed any good weather with being stuck indoors lol, because quite frankly the weather has been utterly appalling. I mean… have we even had a summer yet?

We have had a spot good news – my hubster has been made course leader at the private university he works at – so I am an incredibly proud little wifey 🙂

To be honest… I haven’t much more to add to my little catch up. Apart from that me & Seth are totally obsessed with Moana… it’s our new favourite Disney. I’ve lost count of how many times we’ve watched it while he’s been poorly.

Hopefully I shall be catching up soon with a way more fun & exciting blog post!

I’ve some lovely reviews coming up about fantastic products from FrezyDerm UK, Crabtree & Evelyn, Nuby & Personal Planner.

Hey Like Wow!

17 Jul

Hi folks,

How gorgeous has this sunny summer weather been that we’ve been having? We’ve had so many fun family days out & days in the garden. Staying hydrated in this weather is so super important. I try not drink too many fizzy drinks & tend to stick to water. However… over the last month or so I’ve been trying out a lovely beverage from Hey Like Wow.

So… what is it?

It’s a still vitamin water that is:

  • Sugar Free without the nasties
  • Enriched with Viatnins B6, C & D, Calcium
  • No Artificial Sweeteners
  • No Artificial Preservatives
  • Allergen Free

In the cap of the bottle you may be able to see a red button… Well this is a blast cap that delivers your vitamins straight into your water. Soluable vitamins are the most powerful the moment they hit the water. So, this amazing blast cap gives you the control of only releasing the vitamins right before you drink.

So… what’s it like?

I loved them. Like I said – I’m a big water drinker, so having something with a little more flavour & added vitamins is fab. They’re lovely ‘on the go’ drinks that fit great into a healthy lifestyle. The sports caps make them easier for kids to drink from too – Seth’s loved having a taste test.

To stay up to date with new launches from Hey Like Wow you can follow them on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram

Healthy Me… Healthy Family… Barefaced Groceries

1 Feb

Hi folks,

I’ve got a lovely little review for you. As all you know I’m a continuing weight battler… having lost 6 stone already… I’m in the throws of operation ‘lose baby weight’. I’ve always looked at these online sites that send you the ingredients with recipe cards to make like 3 or 4 meals. But I’ve always found them to be quite costly.

A few weeks back I stumbled upon a fab online grocery store called ‘Bearfaced Groceries’. They literally provide fantastic fresh food boxes. You can choose from a variety of boxes… all meat… slimmers… vegetarian… all fruit… or a fab mix of everything. Everything is Farm Fresh too!

I was so excited to receive my Bearefaced Box. I received the Deluxe Seasonal Box which is currently on offer for £50 from £100. So… what’s in the box?

  • 2kg of Chicken Breast Fillets
  • 250g Unsmoked Dry Cured Bacon
  • 2 8oz Grass Fed Rump Steaks
  • 4 Pork Loin Steaks
  • 5oog Grass Fed Lean Beef Mince
  • 4 Lamb Chops
  • 2 Skin on Haddock Fillets
  • 1 Butternut Squash
  • 1 Pack of Watercress
  • 2 Packs of Coriander
  • 2 Garlic Bulbs
  • 2 Pieces of Ginger
  • 4 Golden Beetroot
  • 1 Turnip
  • Large Parsnips
  • 1 Large Cauliflower
  • 1 Large Broccoli
  • 2 XL Onions
  • 500g Mixed Carrots
  • 2 Large Leeks
  • Mixed Peppers
  • 5 Large White Potatoes
  • And… You get a £10 voucher off your next box!!!

You may not get recipe cards… but you can always check the recipes section on the their website for any hints or tips. Or… head on over to my weightloss journey page. I have had so much fun making some fab food with this box. It’s even better as I feel so confident using these products to make food for my little boy as it’s such good quality & super fresh! I was determined to not waste a single thing. So, I decided to use any leftover veggies to make homemade soups. That way I could batch cook & then freeze it. This was such a good idea. With all of these nasty bugs & viruses going around, I wanted to give us all a boost. Seth loved all of the soups I’ve made. Weaning has never been easier.

Having so many fresh ingredients at my finger tips has been so fantastic. Normally I buy a lot of frozen meats & vegetables to keep costs down. But these boxes are so affordable… especially with the massive discounts right now. I’ve made chicken curry, chilli, Moroccan stye lamb, bolognese, homemade burgers etc… Our food has been so colourful & aesthetically pleasing.

The best thing about this boxes as there isn’t any contract or commitment you have to enter into. You literally just order what you want… when you want it! You can’t say fairer than that. If you’ve been inspired to order… which I hope you have… then just follow this link to receive £10 off your first order! So you could get the box I received for a mere £40!!! The meat alone comes to waaaaaaaay more than that in value. The meat is so well packaged too, that you can easily pop straight into the freezer. I split up a lot of the meats to freeze. That way it stays nice & fresh. Oh &… the way in which these boxes are packed is amazing!!! The food was cool & fresh with the help of fab packaging… lots of Cooke blocks & insulation. So you e no worry of your food arriving in tiptop condition!

So… what are you waiting for!? Order a box! Feed your family fresh, home cooked food that won’t cost the earth. I mean lets face it… everyone is on a budget these days… this company is seriously a find. I will be ordering more from this company. They’re real people offering real food & ingredients at fab prices. Gone are the days that we all have enough time to go buy fresh veg at the green groceries & locally sourced meats from the butchers. Well… I know I don’t have the time. My life is so full of Mammy-ing, work, baby groups, housework, socialising etc… I barely have time for anything else.

I hope you’ve found this blog useful!

Thanks as always for reading!

Body Magic

3 Jun

Hi folks ✨

It’s Fri’Yay!!! Woo hoo! I started today with 2.5 mile of body magic. I’m no way a gym bunny… & a keep fit class scares me that I may not be able to keep up with my nerve damaged leg. So… Me & the bambino have been going on lovely walks around our beautiful village. I can go at my own pace & there’s no pressure… Perfect! I’m loving the FitBit Alta too! I was scared it wouldn’t be accurate with me pushing a pram whilst walking, but it seems to be working fine. I was so hungry after our walk though… So I needed a decent helping of fat free yogurt to keep me going until lunch time.

Last night I made some breadless garlic bread as an accompaniment to our tea. I used blitzed up cauliflower, egg & low fat cheese to make the base. It was surprisingly yummy! If you want the recipe, give my Facebook page a like: http://www.facebook.com/IxxyPoco

It was such a busy day here yesterday. Lots of work was had… All whilst watching Cinderella & snuggling the bambino. At one point he was sat in his bouncer gurgling to me bless him 💙 I think in his own little way he was helping me. I’ve always been a passionate driven person… But now Seth is here I feel more determined than ever to make new ventures work & succeed. I want to be a Mammy he can be proud of, whilst being there 24/7 for him & be able to contribute financially all at the same time. I’m good at multitasking… So hopefully this will all work out with plenty of hard work ✨ Watch this space ✨

I’m so hoping that our lovely weather returns this weekend. This week has been simply awful! It’s been so cold & dark… I’ve had the heating on! I want the summer weather to return so we can have days out to the beach, BBQs in the garden & lovely sunny walks ☀️ I’m sure I jinxed us by getting my sunglasses out! As soon as they see the light of day… The sunny heat disappears!

I’ve been updating my website: www.hayleythorne.co.uk

I need to get lots more of my recipes on there. As soon as I do – I shall let you all know!!!

Well I’d best go as I have guests arriving shortly!

Thanks again for reading ✨

Saints and Sinners

1 Jul

Well I think we can all agree to being Saints and Sinners where food is concerned… don’t you? I was a little bit of a sinner this weekend and indulged in some thin and crispy freshly deli made pizza

Back in my ‘fatty days’ I would’ve scoffed the whole lot down with mountains of chips topped with cheese. At least on Saturday I accompanied my pizza slices with fresh salad 🙂 It was still very naughty though… but completely divine!  I needed that blow out.

Anyway… as of today I’m feeling positive about shifting my last bit of weight. I’m still undecided about how much I want to lose… all I can say is that I am going to aim for 14lbs at the moment… once I reach that goal I think I’ll try for another 7lbs-14lbs. I am very happy with my achievements so far, but I know I still have some weight to lose…  sorry I mean ‘Get Rid Of’… coz I certainly do not want it back!

I’m really enjoying summer this year. As I’ve said before – hot weather is no fun when you’re a fat lass. Your flabby thighs rub together and you get all hot and bothered and sweaty. Not to mention that you don’t look nice in pretty, colourful summer clothes. Now, I just love the sun! I’m wearing bright colours and feeling great. So much has changed since last summer.

It’s not just my weight that’s changed… it’s my whole personality  Not to mention the fact that my skin, nails and hair are so much healthier too! I’m so glad I made this change in my life. If you’re toying with the idea of changing your health too… then do it! Don’t think about it – do it! Today is the day to take control and make your life happier… healthier… and… longer!

My weightloss has really slowed down now so I’m trying a few tricks to boost it again. I’m trying to not have any cereals or bread in my diet Monday to Friday. I don’t find this hard to do throughout the day… but on a morning I find it difficult to find something filling to have for breakfast. Look no further than baked beans, tinned tomatoes, poached eggs, scrambled eggs, boiled eggs and unsmoked back bacon (grilled).

This morning I had half a tin of baked beans with 2 poached eggs… low calorie and very low in fat. The perfect combination! It kept me going all the way until lunch time 🙂

Another trick is to make sure that you have plenty snacks… if like me you are a ‘picker’ then having a little tub of berries is brilliant to snack on. Or an apple chopped up!

If you go for a nice colourful mix of berries you’ll get a sugar hit as well as finding them appealing to look at! Who needs a bag of Skittles or Haribo anyways 🙂 This way you can pick and snack to your hearts content without ruining your diet.

I went for a night out Friday just gone with a friend I’d not seen in a while. I had such a good time, it’s such a nice feeling to not have to be constantly aware of trying to hide my flabby stomach as I’m sitting down, with a coat or my bag or a cushion. I’m not constantly dreading having to walk up the flight of stairs in the pub to the bathroom when I need to pee! No seriously… that was one of the things that used to get me all worked up. I’d be so out of breath walking up them and I’d be paranoid about anyone walking up behind me on the stairs as they’d get a right eyeful of my wobbly bum! It sounds stupid and over the top but those were the things that’d be running through my head. I never want to be in that situation ever again and I never want anyone out there to feel like that either! It’s nice to get compliments too rather than thinking everyone is looking at you in utter disgust.

These ramblings help me to stay on track and keep myself focused with my weightloss… I’m so glad that I discovered blogging lol. I know I say it on pretty much every blog post; but any time you need any tips or moral support please don’t hesitate to contact me. You can find me on Facebook , Twitter and Instagram @ixxypoco or you can message me via this page.

I dreamed I’d be the thin girl again… and guess what… it started to come true with a little bit of dedication and hardwork… if I can do it… so can you! 😀

Thank you for reading! 🙂

More Successful Dining Out Choices

9 Dec

Well I’ve hit the 2 stone Weightloss mark and I’ve bought some new clothes in size 16 and 14… They all fit which is just the most amazing feeling EVER!!! I love the rewarding feeling I get from the scales telling me I’m lighter and even better when I’m getting into lovely smaller clothing.

I spent a lovely weekend catching up with best friends and had the BEST salad EVER while out for lunch! I also swapped the chips for new potatoes… Well it all helps the Weightloss after all!

I have to say a BIG thank you to all my friends and family who have been supporting me… You’re all FABULOUS!

Lots of love,

Hayley xx

Sneaky Saturday Pub Lunches

2 Dec

Yesterday my lovely hubby took me for a sneaky pub lunch… And since we’d just endured the last of our Christmas shopping… We certainly needed it!

After scrutinising the menu I decided upon a yummy healthy light lunch: Five Bean Chilli, Jacket Potato (no butter) and a side salad (no dressing). It was so nice and I was happy knowing that I’d not affected my diet.

Being able to dine out when I like and still lose weight is the best feeling!

Spicy food is fantastic for speeding up your metabolism… So why not follow my chilli recipe from a previous post… Serve it with some brown rice and be extra brave and add some extra spicy sauce to your rice.

Melt those pounds away with some Scotch Bonnets!

Happy Munching and don’t forget…. Water only makes it hotter!

Treats & Temptations

21 Nov

I don’t have a massive sweet tooth, but I do get chocolate cravings from time to time. As you know once you have one taste of chocolate… You want MORE! The way I’ve been controlling my chocolate fixes has been by buying Cadbury Miniature Heroes. That way I can control exactly how many calories I’m having… If I bought a big bar I’d be too tempted to eat more than I should. This way you’re limited to a small amount of chocolate. Also you’ll appreciate a small amount little and often… It’s definitely been working for me. I allow myself 3 a week and I have to say that I really ENJOY those 3 chocolates 🙂

No diet will work if you deny yourself your luxuries. The hardest thing for me has been limiting the amount of cheese I eat as I’m a huge cheese freak. I’ve been satisfying my cheese cravings with low fat cottage cheese and light babybels. Both are very low in calories so they’re great for little feel good snacks… Plus they make you feel like you’re having something naughty.

Everyday I try to think of something nice and different to what I’ve had the previous days to eat for lunch and dinner. Today’s lunch was poached salmon (which I tend to eat a lot since its one of my favourite foods) along with steamed vegetables: Sugar Snap Peas, Carrots, Broccoli and Mini Corns with copious amounts of cracked black pepper… As always.

Eating so much fruit and veg is definitely having a positive impact on not only my body but my personality too. I seem happier and brighter in myself. Plus the 23lb weight loss is having a massive effect on my confidence 🙂

I promised I’d be open and candid about this whole process so I wanted to share something with you all that quite frankly I was very ashamed about… My starting weight. I’m going to list my weight loss because I want to prove that small changes can make a really big difference. Plus I don’t want anyone out there to think that they’re too ‘big’ or that they don’t have enough will power to change their weight.

I’ve been eating healthy now for 10 weeks and this is my weight timeline:

Monday 10th Sept: 17st 4lbs
Monday 17th Sept: 16st 13lbs
Monday 24th Sept: 16st 11lbs
Monday 1st Oct: 16st 9lbs
Monday 8th Oct: 16st 6lbs
Monday 15th Oct: 16st 5lbs
Monday 22nd Oct: 16st 4lbs
Monday 29th Oct: 16st 1lbs
Monday 5th Nov: 16st
Monday 12th Nov : 15st 12lbs
Monday 19th Nov: 15st 9lbs

My BMI has come down 4 points in 10 weeks. As you can see in 10 weeks you can make such a difference to your health and to your body. All you want to aim for is a steady healthy weight loss of 1-2 lbs a week. Sometimes you may drop 3lbs in a week. But steady is the way to do it. You’ll start to feel great when people start passing comment and asking if you’ve lost weight… That’s the thing that has been spurring me on… A lot!

Thanks again for reading everyone!

Quick and Easy Healthy Lunch

20 Nov

Today’s quick and easy lunch to take to work with me:
A tub of last nights left over chilli,
A jacket potato to heat in the microwave,
Müllerlight Yogurt,
Diet Cherry Coke.

Such a quick and easy lunch to make when you have food leftover from the night before, also as you’ve made it from scratch yourself you know it’s completely healthy and good for your diet!

Just have to wait until lunch time!
